  1. Hmm interesting song.  Definitely love the style in which Axl sings, agree that it's very UYIish.  Many parts of the way Axl sings and the effects on his voice remind me of Locomotive, especially from 2:50-3:05.  Also, the chorus is pretty cool.

HOWEVER, I can't help but get an N'Sync or Backstreet Boys vibe from the whole song.  I think it's that piano riff and the Hey Heys.  If I wasn't getting this vibe, I would say this song is killer, but I just can't shake the boy band vibe from this track.  Hope the finished product gets rid of the piano riff.  Maybe replace it with an altered version on guitar.  LOVE SOG though.

  2. LOVE IT.  All I can make out is the first line, "When do you think you would tell me."  Love the melody, love the anger, love the rasp, love the speed.  Granted, it's only 13 seconds of almost gibberish, but from this it's probably one of the very few songs from nu-gnr that actually sounds like the old band could have wrote.  Really looking forward to hearing more.

I remember hearing Jungle and Brownstone and Paradise for the first time ever when I was a kid.  Listening to those songs for the first time put a smile on my face...actually, almost like uncontrollable laughter.  The reason is because it was so good and I couldn't believe something like that existed.  It was unlike anything I had heard before.  My point is, that first line of "When do you think you would tell me" is the first nu-gnr song that has actually made me smile like that.  Maybe the only other song that was close is Better.

  3. For some reason, Atlas reminds me of The Truth from Slash's Snakepit.  Thinking this made me go back and listen to The Truth, and my god, image Axl on a song like that.  Now THAT would be an awesome song.  Hope the new album is 90% new material that is just rock based and simple.  Axl needs to go back to that.

People were freaking out because Axl sang AC/DC songs, ppl freaked out at the looney toons song, ppl are freaking out for parts of Hardschool....common denominator?  Those are all straight forward ROCK.

  4. Never been a fan of Myles.  Very generic writing and singing (singing style can actually be very annoying, as you all know), but wish he would apply his writing capability from Year of the Tiger to his work with Slash.

While not a fan of him, I very much liked Year of the Tiger.  Maybe it's because musically it was a more inspired, and therefore Myles' writing and singing were more inspired.  In the case of Slash, maybe the saying "crap in, crap out" applies.

I think everything Slash has touched lately is not very inspired.  Everything from his riffs, arrangements, and yes, even solos.  Everything is just so boring.  Hoping the competition between Axl and Slash and both trying to prove something to each other will give us some truly good music (if it ever even happens).

  5. Just re-listened to the Boston ’16 show that I went to.  Axl sounds pretty damn good in that show for any era of this band, but listening to that made me think of this comparison:

Axl greatness in ’93 to Axl weakness in 2001 is the equivalent to Axl goodness in ’16 to Axl shittiness in ’18 (guess you could say the same about ’10 vs ’12).  Point is, Axl sounded like a god in ’16 compared to the show from yesterday.

i would say that without a doubt it is PTU and specifically referencing the RIO opener where the energy of even a brand new song blows the crowd away. Only GNR could have ever pulled something like that - showcasing a brand new song to the thralls of the Brazilian crowd

Furthermore even though there is like half a million people Izzy looks STOKED and totally into it

Agree 100%.  This was also the performance I was going to reference.

I vote for Slash focusing his energy on new Guns material. They all have the material sitting there waiting and ready to go. Especially Axl. Man it must be a mountain of stuff of Axls alone. This is very possible. Please let this happen Axl... :headbang:

In a fantasy world where they come out with a new album, it would be great if they didn't use any ideas they have leftover from god knows when.  Wish they (axl, slash, duff, fortus, etc.) could all or in pairs or whatever, just get together and write new and fresh material.  Stuff that is actually relevant to them today, in a style that actually fits them today (i.e. the strengths of Axl's current voice).

I really don't care to hear old stuff that already exists and then slash/duff or even axl just add their contributions to it.  I want them to actually write some stuff together from scratch!  That will ultimately make the best record.  So as long as we're all dreaming of a new album in our fantasy worlds, this would be the perfect scenario.

But in reality, they will never put out a new album and there will be a NITL tour part 3 and then 4, and then 5....

Madagascar from last night. Front row and very good audio. Nice rasp from Axl

The backing vocals by Duff and Melissa in the second half are fucking awesome. Best version so far :) I loved it

Who's "ohhh ohhaa ohh" was that at the 5:11 mark?  Sounded like Melissa, but did they turn her up in the mix quickly for that last bit?  If so, interesting move...

Yea I would not call the intro a new composition, it's basically just the bridge riff

This is correct.  Guys, the new intro is nothing new that duff/slash wrote.  That riff already exists in the song. It's the riff that bucket solos over right before the bridge. The only new thing they "wrote" is the part that sounds like the 8Mile song right before axl starts singing.

  10. I went to the 7/19 show at Gillette.  Best show I've ever seen.  Just finished watching the pearl jam scope from Fenway.  I only caught the last half but they seriously played 4 covers in 45 min.  And overall, kind of a dull show.

Point is, GNR are the best fuckin band out there.  They kick ASS.  Axl is a god damn rock star and knows how to put on a show.  I'm dying to go see them again and wish I was in Houston tonight.  Enjoy the show, folks!
