Are you related to Katy Perry? 😀 Your Avatar looks like Katy Perry. 😀
Nope!
I did get that comparison a lot more when I used to have a fringe

Around 2004-2008 there was an extremly busy picture thread here too. Which was fun. But honestly it was also a different (maybe more innocent?) time on the internet. I've seen multiple events where shit got out of hand and/or nudity was also getting posted. Which wasn't good at all. Especially since there's no age verification in any way. Aside from that there was of course some innocent attention whoring too. The old picture thread, I believe, is removed completely and no longer a searchable part of this forum. But for the most part it was great and it was fun how everybody knew just a little bit more about eachother.
There is a new picture thread, but it's not the same as it was back then.
The old picture thread was WILD

Why surprised mate? I'm the chewing gun stuck under GnR fandom's shoe. I don't decompose and it's impossible to scrape me off too.
But I'm doing well! Living in the same city and working the same job, but by now with the Mrs. and our two daughters (ages 6 and 2). Cool to read you've moved to the States! Hope you're doing well too. Oh, fun fact! You remember Paula McKagan from back in the early days? She stayed over with us for a week last April. Really cool to still be in touch with some people from back then. Later that year she also visited Sekh Met, Binge & Slash and Graeme on another roadtrip. I need to have a drink with Sekhy again too, last time I saw her in person was 2016. Time flies!
Wow these are some names!
Glad to see some familiar posters again

Sometimes you can explain so much with one simple line or feeling...huh!?
That line can and probably does explain a lot of young adult Axl and some of his behaviour and actions which were clearly (not excused) brought on by experience trauma...as an elder man he's much different in the last decade and probably taken years of therapy and sorting out shit to get to this place, including, and god I hate to praise but the stability of his Brazilian family giving him some continuity...
He often has said....now is not the time but I'll explain my actions when the time is right to paraphrase....can't wait for that book some day...
Oh completely, when abuse happens at a young age the thing is that person is still developing so the damage is even deeper and harder to heal. t's not just a case of 'learn to deal with your past' once you're older, those scars have shaped your very personality and when you start to make decent progress in therapy it's a mindfuck to unpick how much of your 'flawed self' are trauma responses you can heal from but nobody fucking told you before!
That line and the anguish with which it's sung really lays it all out, it's such a brave song to put out there. I discovered GN'R as a teenager in the early 2000s, worn down by and so close to being able to leave home and escape an abusive mother (nothing quite as extreme as what Axl went through) and hearing Axl's onstage rants talking about his family and what he's overcome gave me so much hope and someone to relate and look up to even out of darkness. This song takes me right back to those days and it's triggering and heartbreaking and cathartic all at the same time. I hope it's healing for him to put it out there.

It really feels like a missed opportunity delaying these when they were due for a Halloween release, both parts/songs really have horror movie soundtrack vibes.
That aside, I'm really impressed. Monsters has strong Bowie influences, especially thinking of Blackstar and Outside. That third verse is peak Axl with so much ferocity. I can see this one being awesome live. The General is quite a hard listen because of the lyrics/subject matter, but musically I'm really digging the heavy, dark sound and the ending is great.
On first impressions I'm enjoying Monsters more, but that's not to say I think the General isn't a great song it just goes to very dark places and fully immerses itself there, where Monsters has a slightly lighter feel (which makes sense as a part I and II) especially in the chorus.
"My only regret is that I never took the time to forget" ...oof

WHY DOES THIS STUFF ALWAYS HAPPEN WHEN I'M AWAY!?
Catching up on all this - I'm loving how different all the new songs have been.

Anyone remember the sex thread era? It was unhinged
I feel like I was 17/18 at the time, I remember the forum going through an incredibly incestuous phase with loads of member couples?

Personally couldn't give a damn, he looks better than a few years back ...but he should've kept the long hair.
Agree - he's looking so well this year, I think he could definitely pull off long hair again

No surprises it's taking the female posters in here to explain that transient bloating is a thing

If they are each on their own bus I doubt it is "a lot" more efficient. Maybe a little bit but if they all flew on the same smaller jet it might actually be more efficient.
Ah, I didn't think of that, fair point
-
Probably a lot more eco-friendly to be using the bus for shorter distances than a private jet too, but I haven't done the math on that

Ages as in 60+ shows....
Has he tweeted or?
He talked about it onstage the other night did he not? Or spoke to a fan about it?

Maybe it's to do with being sick +/- the meds he was having issues with?
To me he only looks bigger around the stomach area and not really anywhere else, and noticeably so in a very short space of time, which to me would suggest more bloating than actual weight gain. Not that it matters
