Honestly I would enjoy that, can't have to much music. Wouldn't it be hilarious if Axl somehow ended doing one of his songs though, like after so many years he finally gets to have a song with Axl and it had next to nothing to do with Guns N' Roses? That's something that I'll always will be curious about.
Honestly, the outdo felt a bit to "Slash-like" for me, but with Ron's Flavor and perhaps some of Axl's magic it would have been a great single. The song it self it's awesome as it is IMHO.
Yes it is a great song, prefer it to most of the Slash solo songs

Well he was in the band for a lot of years, you gotta learn a thing or two in such an environment. I couldn't imagine him writing songs like Dash, Invisible and Argentina before his time with GN'R.
True, Don't know who to pray to anymore also, would have made a good song for a CD followup

Honestly I could never get into it to much, any particular track you're thinking on? From LBIW I particularly loved Clots, Argentina, Women Rule The World, and Dont Know Who To Pray To Anymore. Also I feel that he himself was influenced by his tenure in Guns N' Roses, like he's trying to write his own epic rock song in the vain of November Rain and Estranged but with his own personal flavor. TBH I can't wait to hear from him again
Agree with the G n R influence, his guitar playing is definitely different on this album, probably from all the times he played Estranged

The NR piano demo version from 1987 might be an indication. The first solo sort of "is" in there, while the second one (which I guess the discussion is about) isn't. Based on that, it's more possible that Slash came up with it. In general, it makes more sense that Slash wrote it.
We don't have a similar demo for Estranged. There I could see Axl telling Slash how he wanted certain guitar parts to sound, for example the "dolphin sounds", but it doesn't mean that he instructed all the guitar melodies and of course the solo.
True, always assumed that was all Axl, I take it the guitar demo came after?
Both great versions of the song

It is as simple as, Slash is lead guitar who tends to write the lead guitar solos. It consequentially would be the assumption, that he wrote 'Estranged' and 'November Rain's' guitar solos also, and not Rose whose own guitar abilities were limited.
Has anyone heard the early demo November Rain? Who plays guitar on that?

Really solid rhythm player as well, loved him on Jungle

They've should have this solo on the record, not that piece of shit mess...
Agree, Bumbles live solo was always great

Great moment when I watched this, always liked bumblefoot` s guitar on Estranged. Love the bit of Axl dancing splashing in the water and Richard doing the same in front of him

There would have been more jokes of Axl trying to steal the band and fire Angus

hard to say tbh. so let's start analytically. which guys have ever played lead guitar in GNR? here's a list:
Tracii Guns, Slash, Robin Finck, Buckethead, Bumblefoot, DJ Ashba.sometimes leads were shared - between Robin and Buckethead, Robin and Bumblefoot, Bumblefoot and DJ Ashba.
and as of 2017, we have no existing recording of GNR with Tracii Guns on guitars, so we can safely ignore his stint.
so... that's just five guys, am I right?
Yep, would say Slash and Finck provide the heaviest rhythm

Slash.
live slash puts his rhythm chops on display on dtj before the verses. really fun to watch.
axl's employee lineups don't count. They were just covering slash and izzy's parts and the enablers let them call it gnr.
Yeah Slash does some great choppy rythym play live, but Finck also put some solid rhythm down on some of the old songs live

In a live set? Robin and Bumblefoot. You could basically feel how much the bands sound has lost after the departure from Robin.
Robin had a great solid sound live, never sounded the same with ashba

Finck, Buckethead and Bumblefoot
Buckethead and and Bumblefoot added some really good rhythms to the CD songs
Was more thinking of live, but yes Bucket and Bumble did good on cd

Who do you think provided the strongest rhythm playing when not soloing? For me it would have to be Finck, really liked his rhythm playing in Jungle, not a fan of Ashba` s tone and Bucket and Bumble were probably a bit light on their rhythm playing, so Slash would have to be my next favourite. Anyone have any thoughts?

Was thinking what a big year Axl had last year, but what if he was asked to do acdc when he was either still doing nu gnr or after the Vegas shows when members had quit would he have given up on gnr?

if you look at bbf arrangements for any gnr track, from better to civil war and sorry that he did in his private shows, the arrangement alone for guitar is out of this world. he covers the singing melody and chord progression at the same time, its not unique because many guitar players can do that, not all, but some do.
whats interesting about his take is that he is on a level where he can hear the melody and translate immediately to guitar with licks and runs that are reminiscent of hendrix to steve vai. thats pretty amazing and on that level there arent so many to pull it off. what that gives you is a core idea of the song in one instrument and if you understand what he is playing its pretty mind blowing.
so i stand by my comments, BBF is an amazing artist bar none. if i miss him in gnr? no we have slash that actually wrote those songs, at the same time i cant take anything away from such an amazing guitar player as bbf is. We were lucky to have him on so many levels when slash wasnt an option
One of the things we can he thankful for is him always trying to push and actually getting new songs on the setlist. BBF is the reason why Axl started singing dont cry again and also Estranged.
BBF rocks regardless of anyones opinion on him. we all can have our opinion but when it comes down to it that dude can play the six string, or any number of strings actually, like its no ones business.
Agree with every word, don't forget him trying to push for new music

Remember watching it a few years after and being really shocked by how different it was from the Illusion line up and didn't like it, but grew to like many parts of the show especially Madagascar, Oh My God and November Rain, liked all the solos and what Bucket did with some of the old songs

Iirc, the story was that Axl didn't want to sing the song for some reason so Bumblefoot decided to play it as a solo. Then one day (Chiba, Japan 2007 I think) Axl came out and started singing it with him and it it was the first time Axl sang that song since the 90's. It was super emotional... TT_TT
Bumblefoot's solo is probably my favorite interpretation of the song.
Also, who else remembers this? I gained so much respect for him after this cuz that was a really hostile crowd.
Great rendition, massive respect for what he did at donnington. He had the most respect for the fans of anyone to be in the band

Has anyone ever heard just the Izzy track for jungle? It's amazing, there's bits that I'm sure Slash was playing, has so much to do with the overall sound of the song

Better is really good. I wish that era could've stayed together, that Finck/Buckethead combination had potential.
It did, I think Finck is similar to Slash in some ways in that I think he can write a good melody pretty quickly
-
Actually a really good song from Finck, would like to hear more he wrote from the vault. The Fortus additions improve the song in my opinion.

I agree, there's just some songs that Axl can't really do justice to anymore... unfortunately for GNR and GNR fans, it's all of their biggest songs Sweet child, NV, YCBM. Axl sounded fine on the outro of NV, but all the way up to that was fairly hard to listen to.
Slash During the 2nd NV solo... terrible, Outro solo... same thing. The guy cannot intonate the NV solo properly anymore, every bloody night. He sounds like I did trying to play NV when I was a beginner. No excuse, he has top quality IEMs (a dedicated monitor engineer) and the best gear that money can afford, so I really don't know what the problem is.
Never liked the way Slash plays November Rain final solo live , much prefer the way Bucket and Bumble played it.

They sound like originals for me.
Yeah do to me as well. Always thought their jams were cool, actually most of the nu gnr jams were good, maybe parts of unheard songs on some of them?

Forgot a word
Have been watching live November Rain from NITL on YouTube recently, and can't help thinking Slash really doesn't sound good.
I know people say the solos were bad in the nu guns era, but thought Bucket and Bumble did great on the final part.
By the way loved Slash on the Skin and Bones tour version.
Thoughts?
