Delayed

Yep. Still not had an email myself....would be expected any minute if I wasn't present in informed places ..
You frequent a gnr forum. Updates are always here. You are probably more piped in than some members of the band. Why do you need a generic email

There is no excuse for sending an email announcement to some customers and not others the day before/the day of the original release date. That some of their customers have had to chase up the store/s because they didn't receive an email indicates just how badly the band/distributor messed up in organising the release and communicating it properly. The band's dreadful history on matters like this does not excuse it here. They had enough time to communicate the delay properly. They didn't.
It's delayed, get over it

....and therefore the band should absolutely expect people to trash them online. Which they are doing. In vast numbers, far beyond this forum.
You can bash all you want. Means nada. The casual fan who are going to the shows don't even know CD exists, let alone The General.
More importantly. Gnr doesn't care if a few hundred/thousand die hards are upset. Bash away

So the answer is "you should expect to be fucked around"? Haha, great!
Yes!

Letting people know the day it's released they're not getting in, giving no reason, no communication, giving them a variety of different dates are all shitty things to do.
And that's taking aside the fact the speculation that this thing could never materialise and the absolute catalogue of other things that have occured. This isn't an isolated incident.
Sure, it isn't a big deal when you look at the world in general (pun intended!) and no-one is really weeping into their coffee that they're not getting this record, but I see that this has become the straw that broke the camels back for a lot of fans. And it's not just the people on here- take a look at the reaction elsewhere. That twitter thread is getting hammered by people who are pissed off.
Just some clown trolling.
They did provide communication by sending the email. If they told you a wk ago what difference would it make? It's a song not a dishwasher.
The delays , frustration, lack of communication should be expected by now. GnR does not care about the super die hard fan. Do you honestly think the general public are the ones hammering them? Nobody gives a fuk. You'll hear the song soon. Not a big deal. If you are looking for a smooth operation then gnr isn't the band for you.

Feel free to keep your pre-order in then. Hell, buy ten and a Nightrain package for all we care.
Don't call people 'irrational' though for wanting their money back as the band can't deliver.
You got shares in this stuff? Why do you care so much that people are annoyed and want their money back?
People pre ordered something and it got delayed. Not a big deal. Happens from time to time. The product is not time sensitive where your life is now in shambles because it's not at your front door

Would be a little underwhelming though considering we believed The General was this huge mystical song we’d never heard but turns out we’d all heard it years ago!
Why is this a mystical song? Its no different than anything else in the vault that has yet to be released. It hasnt been released because New GNR fell apart, not because Axl has been holding onto big guns.

Its great to have high expectations but there are plenty of songs in the CD vault that could be better than The General. This song is only hyped because it's a song that a few people have mentioned/described.
It's not a holy grail song in the sense that anyone has described it as a big gun etc. It's a holy grail song because we are starved for music from the CD Era that hasn't been released and or new music in general. It has also never leaked.
I expect it to be a solid song. If it's anything like the Evader cut than it's going to be a heavy hitter. Hoping for it to be a big gun but it's not like Axl has been working on this song like it's his Picasso and hes been purposely holding to release it. Its just a song that was created during the CD sessions that will finally see the light of day.

Nah, not used until 2006.
I've been to 19 shows since MSG 02. I could be wrong. It's been a long time. I have the vhs of that show. I'll have to take a listen one day but you are probably right

It's not. I'm so confused why this is still ongoing. From the cell phone clip you can hear it's different. You can hear the strings. You can hear Axls vocals.
There's a part in the chorus of State of Grace that sounds similar granted.
Brain came up with The General a couple of years after State of Grace. End of.
2006. 2002 had the Exorcist intro instead.
Pretty sure 2002 had the intro as well.
The only time I remember hearing the Exorcist intro was in the Vegas and Rio 3 shows.

Do any members here have that video of Izzy backstage asking what that sound is? Its the beginning of The General. I wanted to hear it again if anybody recalls that sound.
they played the intro at most of the 2002 tour

Is Brain still considered the studio drummer for GNR maybe, and Ferrer is essentially just a touring piece? I know the Brain drum tracks were recorded over 20 years ago, but he still seems to be pretty heavily involved with the band. Maybe he was on the tour last year to give his thoughts on the drums or how they sounded on the tracks.
Brain should be touring w them. Tremendous drummer for this band and he gets it

Slash actually plays off of Robin's harmony during the first 5-10 seconds, then it's just Slash. Seems intentional...

Hot take- I’d rather get The General than a freshly written song. I want to “close this door”, first. It’d be great for them to write something, but I don’t think it’ll happen. I’ll take this, though!
Just waiting on The General and Soul Monster. Anything from that era after that is gravy for me

would be smart to play Absurd & Hardskool either before or after the premiere of Perhaps. Raises more awareness to those other singles since they actually mentioned this one's release lol.
no shot
"The General" is officially delayed... but "The General" AND "Monsters" is (unofficially) out of the bag

They roll in the money from touring, not releasing music. They are not capable of running a "smooth" business model. You are misinterpreting my point. I agree they are incompetent. But again that is expected after years of examples. This is no different.
You can bash away and be frustrated but that should already be expected.
