Oh and im not new to this board...I just don't post hardly.   But I visit and catch up daily.   So everyone here is frustrated wth the current state of the band.   Believe me.

For what it's worth... I've been angry fan since the beginning (I'm 48)...I have 4 sons,  2 in their 20s and 2 in their Teens.  Everyone who knows me knows how much I love this band.   All 4 sons got introduced when they were younger. 

I've never forced their hand and gave always listened you a variety of music around them.   All but my youngest address huge Guns fans.   I've brought those 3 to NITL concerts and they've had a ball at them. 

People seemed to be concerned about how well new music will be received,  but I think it would do well.   My sons pretty much loved the CD stuff nearly as much as the AFD and Illusions. 

I think the fans that grew up loving the original stuff will have a much more difficult time enjoying newer music as it would most likely sound nothing like AFD.  But younger fans I think will enjoy the newer stuff. 

Lastly... I'm actually pleased that so many of my sons friends are big GnR fans.  This band IS relevant to younger people more than we like to think.  I feel it's more the folks that are in their 30s that are more down on them. 

For whatever all of that was worth.

I saw them a few times in the early days and on this tour I was able to go with my younger sister who was too young back in the day,  my 2 20 something year old sons and last year at Voodoo Fest, I was able to bring my 15 year old son. 

So glad they got back together all I could have these experiences.   Never would have thought that was possible 5 years ago.

@jonbradley As for the royals, I think you'll find most Americans are far more interested in that bunch of benefit-scrounging inbreds than your average Brit. It's not as if we all sit around the dinnertable of an evening and discuss Harry and Meghan or how much we miss Princess Diana.

SCOM...1987-8.  One of my best friends was stationed in SD.  He would go to LA often.   He was a huge fan from seeing them on the strip.   He was the one that introduced them to me shortly after AFD came out.   Now that I think about it WTJ may have been first.   Too long ago to remember that precisely. 

I'd be screwed for sure.   I visit damn near every day... though I rarely post.   I do enjoy this place, I'm just a fairly quiet dude.   Unless I REALLY have something to add. 

I understand yall have to do what yall have to do.   But since I have such a low post count, I wouldn't be relevant. 

Perhaps though, I could randomly post 3,000 or so useless comments.....hmmmm

Ahhh... makes sense.   I kept trying to draw the conclusion in my mind by didn't even think of the pyros.

My God, they were on fucking fire. They were legit on fire. Even SCOM didn't sound bad. I've seen them three times and this was the best of the three. They just seemed tight. I usually dislike Axl's "Slither" performance but this one was really good.

 

There was a girl about two people in front and two to the left. She was dead center on the stage. Axl smiled and waved at her at least three times during the show when she was taking pictures with her digital camera. She was star-struck. Legit star-struck every time. It was awesome. Axl was great.

 

Someone gave me a warm White Claw right before the setlist started. If that person is on the forum, thank you.

If you were dead center stage then 1 was 3 people in front of you.   I bet there were others from here at the show.   Seems like some familiar stories from what I've read so far.

i personally was about 2 rows back, right under Axl. As I’ve already mentioned, there was some sort of magic, or aura in the air last night. Im not sure if it was the fact that it had been raining ALL day, but as soon as GNR came on, it just all of a sudden stopped and cleared up, or something else just clicked. Axl was having so much fun running from side to side on the stage. He sounded and looked SO happy and was smiling and waving to the crowd. 
 

The little pocket of people around me was singing And dancing and jumping to every word to every song. When they ripped into Dead Horse we all went crazy and started clapping and encouraging Axl to go for it! We were singing the lyrics super loud and he was dancing and feeling it and Slash was smiling. I wish there was a video, you can kinda see it in Meegans but they look looser, more comfortable. I’d like to mention that there was no ego thrust in the middle of the stage, so Axl and Duff spent a LOT of time standing and interacting with  each other directly in the middle of the stage. 
 

Some highlights-

1. The absolute POP during Welcome To The Jungle. You can see and hear it in Meegans live video. 
 

2. During DTJ, Axl backed off on the intro and kinda lost the intro and Slash accounted for this and played an awesome little flurish to which Axl came running out into singing Double Talking Jive. It was awesome.

3. This crowd was bonkers. During Rocket Queen, some woman under the influence of some type of drug made her way all the way from the back of the crowd pushing towards the front. She made it to the rail and pushed everyone off of the rail. Security had to literally pick her up out of the crowd and take her away. Fortus was watching it as it happened, but I think word made its way around stage because before YCBM, Axl said something along the lines of “we are getting a little rambunctious out there. Why don’t we try to calm things down with this soothing music” 

4. Shadow Of Your Love is so good!! I have some very high def video of Axl absolutely killing this song. My new favorite.

5. Civil War > Dead Horse > Coma. come on!!! How can you complain about the setlist when it’s like that right now!!! I think I peaked during this. I was waiting for Locomotive to make an appearance and it looks like it was scratched from the setlist? Im glad we got Dead Horse though. I think this was the show they wanted to make it their bitch, and wouldn’t be surprised if its dropped after this and only added at the last show. 
 

6. Here is my stance on the covers argument: I agree, some of these songs maybe should have been dropped by now. But for whatever reason they keep playing them. But if this is what we get, so be it. The covers in the encore maybe were overkill, yes. BUT, apparently Axl said Seeker was an Audible and that they “called a quick team meeting and we are going to play another song.” So we could have left with 24 songs instead of the 25 we got, and that means you can tell they were having fun and wanted to stay a little longer. 
 

7. As for the sound/timing/band issues, I honestly think this is Guns N’ Roses in its final form. This band is just SO good. So fucking good. Everyone around me was into it the whole 3 hours. Not many acts can do that these days, trust me. 
 

I think this show will go down as one of those secret gems that people who were there will remember forever. Axl sounded great. The whole band was having fun. Theres not much more you could ask for. There may never be a bootleg or full videos from this show thanks to the rain, but that is what makes it great. Those who were there know!
 

To address the Axl being angry incident, Axl chucked his regular mic into the crowd as the band left the stage after Paradise. When they came back on stage after to do the bow, there was no 2nd mic. Axl was looking around like a mad man for a mic and he finally found one and it wasn’t turned up so he threw the mike towards stage left and then walked up to the front with the rest of the band, bowed 2 times, then took his hat off and threw it stage left as well. Seems like it was just a situation of trying to get a mic in a small amount of time and he couldn't. 
 

oh, and uh. I have a friend who was backstage and sent me a picture of the unedited setlist with the alts on the bottom. As of last nignt, Hard School is still on the alt’s setlist backstage and not presented to the public on social media. I think we can stop considering it a troll at this point.

I was the one that picked that girl up over the rail as security took her away.   She was one of a few that I had to help security with.

the stage faces the North, and many of our rainstorms come in bands from the south. I plan on staying at the main stage all day, so if it is raining, the rain will be coming directly at the stage all day. 
 

as for being something you cant handle, I think the only thing that might cause a problem is the mud. NOLA is basically a fish bowl that collects water at the bottom. This festival site usually becomes a muddy mess this year, but I’ve been told the sites has told Voodoo to be as prepared as they can possibly be, or they may have to move the site. And I can tell you that theres absolutely nowhere else to put it in this city. I think extra measures are being taken so that everyone will be okay.

You are correct sir....I meant until I was at the fest.   I'll be at the main stage all day myself.   Me and a few others.   Prolly gonna get out the at about 9:30-10:00.  In survival gear, of course.

Btw... an AWESOME sandwich to try if you're in the Quarter is the All That Jazz sandwich from Verti Marte in Royal St.  A couple of blocks from Esplanade Avenue on the right side of the street if you're going with traffic. You don't be disappointed.

Yeah we're have a huge group going.   Gonna be out there all day before gates open. 

Gonna be playing it clean this go around.   Im bringing my 15 year old to his first Rock concert.   All 4 of my sons are HUGE GnR fans.   Traveled with my oldest 2 sons to San Antonio to see them in 2017.  

My 3rd time on this tour and 6th time seeing them.

C'mon down... you wont regret.   I couldn't live anywhere else.   This town is just VERY different than anywhere else in the US that I've visited. 

Another good drink to buy on Bourbon,  The Hand Grenade.   Like The Hurricane, be careful,  things of alcohol in 1 drink.   You can get those at The Tropical Isle. ANY of the Brennan's restaurants,  John Besch restaurants are GREAT too, as well as Emeril's. There's a few places on Fulton St, which is near WWII museum that have Great food as well.   Try to get tickets to the Saints game that weekend(they play the Cardinals that weekend, I'm going).  Even if you're not a Saints fan, the games are AWESOME!  Game Sunday's are very busy in the city.  Walk-Ons restaurant/ sports bar on Poydras St, VERY close to the Dome is a good place to catch College Games on Saturday.   Tipitinas is a bar with Great local bands. 

There really is a TON to do.   If you have a place in mind that you need insight into, let me know.
