Perhaps was a grower for me. I like how it's piano driven, but also a rocker. How the guitar solo comes in with a high note (literally) is also cool AF. I feel it is stronger than Atlas, but a step down from Hard Skool.

I think Perhaps is a much better song than Atlas, either version Hard School and obviously Silkworms/Absurd. It has some lyrical depth and emotion that's missing from the others. It also has the massive chorus that much of CD was criticized for lacking. I like a lot of the songs from that era but this along with Better are the only two that sound like "hits"

It also sounds like UYI era Guns. Reminds me of Yesterdays in some ways. Guitar leads have a hint Estranged in them too though a lot more subdued.

  2. When CD was released there were an additional 18 tracks that were basically done. Maybe not in Axl World but in the general sense. That definitely includes Hard School, Silkworms, Atlas, Perhaps, and State of Grace. I don't know if it includes further fleshed out versions of Nothing or Eye On You, or a reworked Oh My God. But let's say for the sake of conversation that it does. That means there are at least an additional 10 "finished" songs out there. The General and Soul Monster among them. Probably Quick Song too since there were scratch and backing vocals in 2000. Also the version of Zodiac 13 from the locker specifies "no vox" so presumably there was a version with vocals at least partially complete in 2000. It's also known, as evidenced by the existence of Better and This I Love, that they wrote stuff not in the locker.

Unfortunately I don't think we'll hear much else anytime soon unless it leaks.

Why is this so hard to believe?  A lot of people lose creative inspiration and ambition over time.  Maybe Axl is just happy living his life.

Chinese Democracy is the album he always wanted to make and not only was it not received super well, but the whole process behind making it sounded torturous.  Maybe he just doesn't want to live that again and is happy just playing shows, traveling the world and spending his downtime hanging out and watching sports.  It seems like it took a big toll on him.

GnR fans have to stop acting like Axl owes us something. If a new GnR album happens that's fucking great, if it doesn't it sucks but I'm not going to let that ruin my life.  There's a lot of great music out there.  SMKC for instance lol

All he or his "management" has to say is there are no plans for a new album at this point. If that changes we'll make an announcement.

The frustration comes from the continual mixed messages and insinuations that an album is in the works but nothing ever materializes, aside from a couple of throwaway singles that they can't be bothered to promote or discuss in any meaningful way.

They're always selling merch and I don't think the physical copies are overpriced. In fact I'm happy they still care for physical releases.

I can't see an indicator in those physical releases that there isn't coming a full length record.

It doesn't mean there won't be a full length record at some point.

It does mean they're intent on wringing every last cent possible out of a fanbase starving for new material.

Silkworms and Hard School were lower tier songs from the CD sessions. Worse than most of what made the album. Never mentioned as being among the better unreleased songs. Dropping reworked versions of those 5 years into the reunion with a bunch of cheesy merchandise and novelty versions ($18 cassette tape for example), but with no real promotion, no videos and so forth indicates they're content to generate as much money from the fans as they can with as little effort possible. It's an excuse to push a proper release of new material further into the future.

It's kinda crazy that the guy who said CD was made for audiophile and blu-ray mixes, released something as poorly mixed as Hard Skool. :axl:

The production and mix is like most generic modern rock songs: loud, flat, overcompressed. Sounds basically like a Constipators song with Axl vocals pasted in. Shows Axl has thrown in the towel to some extent. Could've found a happy medium by maintaining the dynamic range of CD but stripping out the zillion layers of guitars, keyboards, bass and sub bass.

Say what you want about CD and the production, how overwrought and overthought aspects of it may have been, but it wasn't the work of someone who didn't give a shit. This is.

  6. Best case scenario seems to be a new album next fall, comprised of "CDII" vocal tracks with instrumentals reworked by Slash and Duff.

The hype of the reunion has worn off and the returns are diminishing so they'll have to do something to drum up interest before they play some of these markets again.

Axl might as well have just dropped CDII in 2016 and used the reunion to promote it. Slash and Duff would've gone along with it for the payday (as evidenced by their willingness to play so many CD songs).
