  2. Nothing of that recordings ever saw the light of day?

    Nope. Fucking blows, right? :rofl-lol:

The only other time I know of that material being talked about is a Jan 2006 fan Q&A:-

    6. Is there any chance that some unreleased projects (acoustic album, Slash/Duff album etc.) will

    see the daylight some day?

Izzy: yes,i have a few ideas.....06/07 release of some cool stuff possible.

That was 8 years ago so I wouldn't get your hopes up ^_^

  3. Thanks for that!! Very interesting stuff. I woulda been about 10 in 2002 lolz. Sometimes I wish I was older to experience the late 80s 90s and early 2000s as an adult, then im like na id be old as shit now :P

I'm only 30 so not quite old as shit as you so delicately worded it, but I'm getting there

  4. From memory this is what I recall:-

In Slashs bio, one of "The Project" (early VR) pics says "We may have been rehearsing a song called SNAFU" - this appeared on Izzys "Dog" album (recorded in 2003 but not released until 2005).

Duff confirmed that it's no coincidence that Izzys "Bomb" from Like A Dog sounds very similiar to VR's "Do It For The Kids".

It was Izzys idea to just hire a van and play some low key stuff, with him and Duff sharing vocals. Slash wanted a singer, and Izzy bailed around the time VH1 turned up to film the "finding a singer" process for TV.

I can't remember the dates, but Izzy/Slash/Duff recorded together in late 2001/early 2002 - see "Three Out Of Five Ain't Bad" article on MTV. I think this occured just before "The Project/VR" - and after Izzy bailed The Project he took his songs and recorded Like A Dog, whilst Duff/Slash went on to form VR. The drummer on the Izzy/Slash/Duff album was Izzys go-to drummer Taz Bentley who once mentioned it in an interview:-

Q: Before I ask about 76, did you ever play any shows with Izzy Stradlin?
Taz: Yeah, we toured Japan once. About once every year we go out and do an album. He doesn't believe in "the machine" at all. He hates the industry, so initially he licensed the albums overseas and wouldn't tell anyone in America. He's a really big fan of the Internet. Now we'll go record and he'll slap it up on iTunes. That's been a hoot. Duff's on most of them. There was a time when Slash, Izzy, Duff and I got together a few times and recorded some stuff. I think it was Duff who called it Four Wheels, No Axl. But none of that stuff ever got released. It's kind of fun to sit around, be a fly on the wall, playing the drums with these guys and say, "How did I get here?"

  5. Sweet Caress is Awesome and by far his best song post guns. Maybe the best song of all gunners

Precisely :headbang: It is awesome, and it deserves more views, but unless someone makes a fan video full of epic cat fail pranks it will go unnoticed by your average Youtuber <_<

  6. I understand your point Apollo, but I think there is a world of difference when comparing Izzys music to some random getting 25 million views on Youtube. The million+ videos are usually not unknown musicians/artists - they are cat videos, epic fails, police brutality and pranks. The random Youtubers who fall outside of those categories and manage to pull in high viewing numbers are not one-off uploaders - they are people like Pewdiepie who have devoted their lives to making Youtube videos for the sake of ad revenue, which means spending hours every day posting new videos and comments, building subscribers, engaging with others etc. Can you show me a genuine artist on Youtube with 25 million views who isn't funded by a record label buying the views? There probably are a few out there, but I believe they are few and far between.

Promotion definitely helps, and it's something Izzy has always shied away from. Eg, he did an official music video for Baby Rann in 2012 and it has had 300,000 views on Youtube. Yet "Sweet Caress", considered to be his best solo song by most fans, and released 10 years previous in 2001 has only had 290,000 views - that doesn't have an official video.

Back in 2006 or 2007 a major rock magazine publication approached Izzy requesting to license and publish one of his albums as a free CD on the cover of their magazine (Fire or Miami, I forget which). We're talking direct promotion to hundreds of thousands of rock fans, a.k.a Izzys target audience, yet that never happened. He did a little Q&A with fans online not long after. That says a lot about Izzys motives for releasing music, and how he feels about the business. Probably the same reason he goes "direct to fan" with his music releases instead of dealing with labels to release CD's :)

Who cares how many awards this song hasn't won? Just be greatful you heard it, then laugh about all the shit music which is given "awards" these days ^_^

  7. I love Izzy as much as the next GnR fan.

But if he was The Man - then why hasn't he been successful without Axl and Slash?

Depends on your definition of success I suppose ^_^

Izzy has no Twitter, no Facebook, no websites, no record label, last toured his solo stuff in 2000 (4 gigs in Japan only), and rarely does the whole press thing. I think his last interview was in 2006 for Tunecore?

Pretty sure Izzy would be more successful in terms of record sales if he did all of the above, but others have said on a few occassions that Izzy doesn't like the machine.

He's probably busy enjoying his life without the extra hassle all of the above would bring :)

  8. I have a rant in response to your own ;)

Marc Canter has enough sense to come on this forum to promote a book. Out of all the yes men that are employed in GNR, why not have an official spokesman for the forums / official websites and other Internet activities? I really like the music created over the years but I can't wrap my head around how they run their business. I dunno maybe they like being mildly successful. Or maybe they make so much off the foreign touring market that they feel like it is a success. My apologies for the rant. Anyone else feel like a rant of their own?

Marc Canter is only on this forum to help shift the tens of thousands of unsold copies of his book. Had Axl endorsed his product he wouldn't be here. It's not business sense, it's desperation.

GN'R does have a spokesman for the official websites. See their official website, official Twitter page, and official Facebook page - they all get updated when GN'R wants them updated. Is that not enough? Send them a question their, and if they don't reply it's probably because it's buried amongst the hundreds of other non-important fan communications sent that day.

On top of hiring a web development team (Ground Ctrl) for the official website, hiring Backplane for the official fan community (ParadiseCity.com), and hiring ghost writers for their social media outlets, you also expect Axl to hire a forum spokesperson just to answer our every little question? :rofl-lol: That would mean paying another $20k per year salary, and it wouldn't be profitable for GN'R business. Can you explain the business sense in paying that additional salary? How does responding to the fan uproar everytime Bumblefoot throws a hissyfit convert to making GNR money?

If there is nothing to announce, then there is nothing to announce. When there is something "newsworthy" why on earth would he want to announce it here, compared to the promotion which a multinational news outlet could offer him, and would probably pay him for for the exclusive?

Get real guys. Axl has millions of $$ in his bank account (or at least in "assets" such as the GNR name), and the only kind of business Axl should be worrying about is the kind which might add an extra zero on the end of his bank balance - which doesn't include posting on Mygnr (and any of the dozens of other forums which I presume also need a spokesperson hiring for?), or releasing a new album, since both would generate jackshit compared to touring.

It's the same reason he goes out and plays Jungle, Sweet Child and Paradise City year after year. Millions of casual fans (in Europe and South America at least) will pay good money to hear those songs live, even without the original lineup, but they won't pay to hear a setlist of new material or unreleased Chi Dem 2 songs, and Axl knows this. The majority want the hits, and the majority is where the moneys at.

Typical Frustated Mygnr Member: Yeh but it wouldn't hurt to switch out one song from the setlist for an unreleased song!!! Think of the promotionzzz OMG!!!

That same promotion will still be available when Axl needs it. If he doesn't need or want it right now then that is Axls choice, as a business owner and as Numero Uno in GNR Corp 2015. When you run a company turning over tens of millions of dollars per year you'll have the luxury of making similiar choices.

Axl clearly has more business sense than most of this forum. Unfortunately I do agree with the OP, and the rest of you, and would like nothing more than some news, & new songs etc, but I can appreciate Axls position and don't doubt his business acumen. Im self employed and only have a few $k in the savings account and already my work ethic has been reduced to minimal ^_^

  9. Apologies - don't know if it belongs here or in My World. Figured as Tommy's in the band it would be okay here.

    Dates are:

    28 May - Barcelona - Primavera Sound

    30 May - Amsterdam - Paradiso

    02 June - London - Roundhouse

Personally I'm super, super excited about this - hoping I can make the London date. I guess this means a real break from touring for Guns.

Awesome news. I just found out today that my brother is getting married in London the first week of June so I'll go down early to catch this show, never thought I'd get to see Paul & Tommy live together. Hope the set is primarily full of Twin/Tone era Mats tunes, and wouldn't mind if Tommy wanted to do a bit of busking on the streets again :headbang:

  10. The whole Black Friday epidemic is disgusting and humanity should be ashamed of themselves. Morons acting like assholes just to save a few dollars. It's pure idiocy and people who participate in the frenzy aspect of it by lining up and stampeding stores are douchebags in my opinion. People will spend hours upon hours waiting in line for this shit but people won't spend 5 minutes donating blood or helping in a soup kitchen for an hour or whatever. Black Friday madness is a black mark on humanity in my opinion.

Do you donate blood or help in a soup kitchen?

  11. Had to vote for Fish n Chips. Someone early in the thread mentioned soaking it in salt and vinegar and my mouth is now drooling at the thought

American food is okay, but after a fortnights holiday in Florida I was sick of it. Everything tastes plastic, portions were always ridiculously huge, and what's the deal with tipping your waitress. Cheap fucks should just pay them an honest wage to begin with :D You couldn't make a good cuppa tea if your lives depended on it either lol.

Personally would prefer a mild chicken curry, with a naan bread and some chips (not fries!) but that wasn't an option. Best food I've ever tasted was Pepperoni pizza from NYC Pizza in Amsterdam. Only €2 per slice. Must have bought about 50 slices in my last weekend trip there. Walking from cafe to cafe I'd always call in and buy a single slice or two :rofl-lol:

  12. Sounds fucking horrendous :rofl-lol:

I loved Reckless Road, and enjoy Canter Banter for Marcs valuable insights, but seriously I can't imagine watching a movie about GNR. I expect it to be more cringeworthy than an episode of The Office (UK version). Some bad actors pretending to be Axl, Izzy, Slash etc.

I'm surprised it's getting such a positive reaction to be honest, guess it's just because Marc posts here? From reading Marcs comments in Canter Banter about his now non-existant relationship with Axl, it sounds like there is a zero percent chance of any unreleased GNR audio or video being included in this movie, unless he's rebuilt bridges with Axl, so I see no value in this at all. What am I missing?

No-one gave a shit about hearing the first ever real studio recordings of Axl (see the failed Rapidfire kickstarter), so I don't get why fans are so positive about this?

I don't mean any disrespect to Marc, his book is awesome and I appreciate his being here. Guess I just need more information before I jump on Marcs nutsack like the rest of you  Promise us that unreleased GNR video will be included and I'll jump aboard like everyone else :D

  13. Great section here, thanks for the insights Mr. C.

Just wanted to chime in as I didn't see it mentioned. There may be a bounty of recorded sessions with the estate of the late great Shannon Hoon. If anyone recalls the VH1 doc on HIS life, perhaps less watched, we see him recording Axl during UYI. The segment went something like this: Shannon walks into vocal room, Axl there looking at him like 'why are you taping me, get the camera out of here', until Shannon says "Mom, this is Axl, say Merry Christmas". Axl then smiles and says "Merry Christmas".

So look to Shannon's mom as a possible treasure trove.

I just watched the VH1 "Behind The Music" on Blind Melon and remembered this topic. axlskAmpf is correct, Shannon Hoon documented his own life on video and VH1s program included a lot of unreleased video footage from Shannons tapes, including a few seconds of Axl in the studio during the making of the UYI albums. You can see the full documentary below:

Don't go hassling Shannons mum though, that's just beyond insensitive even for us diehard GNR fans. We're talking about her son, a talented artist who died way before his time due to a drug overdose. Whilst it would be cool to see the footage no-one in Shannons family deserves to be hassled by us GNR fans craving unreleased video for our own selfish pleasure.

  14. If you listen to the podcast you know who the singer on the VR demos is.... the host says they're his audition  Pretty sure this podcast already has a topic on mygnr somewhere, since I heard about this a week or two back and already have it on itunes. Marc from the infamous Canter Banter has also been a guest on this show and was well worth a listen :)
