  1. Fuck that man, when a point needs making it should be made. People devalue voices of dissent these days as, y'know, those moaners that wanna spoil everyones fun but to me dissent is a great British tradition dating all the way back to the Cromwells of this world, fuck em, when the boys upstairs are wrong someone somewhere in England says so, this is a country bred on taking to the fuckin' streets when we've got a problem, stand up, speak up, thats what i say, good on ya Morrissey.

Funnily enough a lot of it always comes from up North too which is funny because yous lot are considered the standard bearers for racism etc in England but they're always the first to stand up and say when Englands got it wrong too. I think it has something to do with the degree of Irish blood pumping through the English hearts up there. (did you see what i did there, good weren't it? Can i have a smiley sticker? :D)

TOO RITE, BRUV! DESE GEEZERS DUNT KNO SHITE BOUT US ANARCHISTS, EH?

  2. We'd do things like talk gangsta to them, in which the roleplayers would usually respond with something along the lines of "Hark, what tongue doth thou speak!?". Was pretty damn funny.

Bro, you don't even know. That whole server was scared of our RP killa gang.

  3. It sucks that our gold came in fucking sailing. Only sport I can think of that sucks more is basketball.

Oh well, a gold is a gold.

At least your only gold isn't in trampoline gymnastics. <_<

    Was just about to say.

Winter Olympics is 2 years away. Our time will come.

  4. I played it when it first came out. It was fun, mainly for the social aspect of it. The game itself is very meh. I kept in touch with my original guildmates for a long time, too. We got pretty close. Sometimes wonder whatever happened to them.

We were in an RP/PVP server, and one of our favourite things to do was go to RPers and start fucking up their roleplay. We'd do things like talk gangsta to them, in which the roleplayers would usually respond with something along the lines of "Hark, what tongue doth thou speak!?". Was pretty damn funny. Stopped playing once people started taking the game way too seriously.

  6. If you have nothing else to say about the topic, then don't post in that thread.

But see, here's the thing. We are replying to the topic, then we're replying to the reply to the topic, then to the reply to the reply to the topic and then to the reply to the reply to the reply and so on. See this is how conversation works, it's a living breathing thing. You're going on as though people are going into a debate on the death penalty and suddenly demanding somebody furnish them with a recipe for leek and potato soup and that's simply not the case. :shrugs:

If somebody starts a thread about horror movies and somebody brings up Salo for instance then to me it's perfectly valid to deviate into a discussion about the Marquis De Sade then the storming of the Bastille and possibly even the French Revolution. Who knows you might eventually get that recipe if things continue on to talking about French cuisine then onto general foodie type chatter via a kinda six degrees of separation type thing but that's perfectly valid cos that's how conversation works and evolves no?

If it's been steered in a certain direction it's cos nobody was interested enough to keep it on the original topic but all it takes to go back there is for a couple of people to resurrect the original discussion is it not?

Edit: Also, fuck me Leonard what are you doing up at this ungodly hour?

I understand how conversation works. But the point of forums is about talking to others about certain topics. This isn't a giant chatroom. Threads have certain topics that start a conversation about said topic. What else is the point of threads if they all just deviate into random chatting?

I understand about going a bit off topic, I'm not trying to mini mod here. But deviating from the topic so far that the thread is just engulfed in off topic discussion is something completely different. If you honestly can't see this, there's no point in continuing this discussion. It'll get us nowhere.

  7. Wow... Murray... that was fucking AMAZING!

How the hell did Federer change so much from three weeks ago? Federer is really starting to show his age now. Is this the beginning of the end for him?

Will be looking forward to see if Murray will sing the national anthem.

  8. Allow me to go more in depth on what happened...

Someone (I can't remember who, it might have been kevin) got a suspension for saying "lol bumblefoot" in some thread. Some of the members thought the reason for this suspension was ridiculous. We were literally laughing at how stupid it was. So, it became a little joke to say "lol bumblefoot" every now and then (iirc, most of it wasn't spammed. Although, a couple members did). This was considered the utmost disrespectful thing ANYONE could do, in Madisons eyes. So there was a mass banning from madison (kind of like a genocide.... a banocide, if you will) to all these members that even uttered the phrase once. It didn't even just have to be that phrase alone in a post... if that phrase was even said in the middle of some post, it was considered spamming.

I even still have one of the PM's from madison from the incident in my box:

    <!--quoteo(post=2104073:date=Jul 22 2008, 11:45 AM:name=kevin)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (kevin @ Jul 22 2008, 11:45 AM) <a href="index.php?act=findpost&pid=2104073"><{POST_SNAPBACK}></a></div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Seriously <img src="http://www.mygnrforum.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":lol:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />. 5 or so people get banned for saying "lol bumblefoot" but one of the most obvious adbots in recent times beats the system. We need to find his secret<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    Kevin, Moop, kevdo242:

I guess the three of you didn't learn a thing from several of your pals being permanently suspended from the forum.

Keep it up - and the three of you will be joining them. We don't tolerate spammers. And if you're not happy with the forum's rules, nobody is putting a gun to your heads forcing you to stay. We don't tolerate spammers posting nonsense off-topic posts in the middle of threads to protest their pals being banned.

Consider this your one - and only - warning.

    Madison

As you can see, kevins post that maddie quoted wasn't exactly spam. It was a legit complaint. After this warning, I don't think I mentioned "lol bumblefoot" at all, yet I still returned to my account being banned, and a reason was not given why. Iirc, I think kevdo was banned as well, but I could be wrong.

Wasn't exactly "legendary" or anything. Just hilarious at the audacity of it all. I mean, the skype crew and others go on about some people on here taking the forum too seriously.... no one will ever take it as seriously as madison.

PS. to highvoltage: Don't misinterpret anything I say in this as an insult to madison. Just using this as a disclaimer.

  9. Damn sad how far Djokovic has fallen. He was near flawless last year. Oh well, at least Murray is through.

Also, hurray for Canada beating GB 2-0. It's sad that Canadas womens football team is miles ahead of their mens.

  10. Where the hell did you get that from? I didn't say that and I sure as hell didn't imply it.

Doing this will only make them go more off topic in AG. They're like children, you either have to ignore them or use reverse psychology.

Apologies if I got the wrong end of the stick but saying "this will only MAKE people go more off topic" you're implying that people are going off topic in response to something others are doing. Also the bit about reverse psychology implies again that threads going off topic is deliberate. That's the way I read it anyway. :shrugs: Oh and the Rocket Queen thread was just Broski being daft so it's not like it was a serious discussion getting derailed.

Sometimes I get the feeling some members actually do it on purpose. Regardless of why they do it, they still derail good threads. Hell, I really liked the topic of discussion of the gender roles thread, probably the only thread topic by arnold I've ever liked, and in no time, it's instantly derailed quite obviously. It wasn't even a transition.

And the reverse psychology thing was tongue in cheek with the treating them like children.

Yeah it went off topic because presumably no one had nothing else to say about it, if you have something to say about it, chime in because unless you (and everybody else that has something to say about it) do then there won't be no discussion. And if you DO add something and it still gets derailed anyway then perhaps its worth toying with the idea that your opinings on the topic weren't very stimulating? :shrugs: Whats so complicated about bringing the the original topic back up? These threads that are derailed, do you think it they weren't then those same threads'd turn into lengthy 30 page discourses on the subject and it's just the big bad evil horned derailers that are ruining it for the studious silent majority of forumers that are actually DYING to discuss the subject but are physically paralysed from typing because someone took it off topic?

I mean REALLY, it's a forum, it's meant to be a giggle and that, do you have to get so fuckin' clench-arsed about it? If you got something people wanna talk about, trust me, they're none of them that afraid of Johnny D or me or Dazey that they're somehow rendered incapable of expressing their opinion.

    Relax, you'll live longer ;)

If you have nothing else to say about the topic, then don't post in that thread. We have a General Talk thread for a reason. What's the point of it when every thread is a General Chit Chat thread? I (along with other members, I've noticed) will post something on-topic amongst all the shitty off-topic posts, and it will usually be overlooked because it gets pushed behind all the personal conversations.

Hell, sometimes I don't have anything to say about the main topic, but I like to read peoples opinions on the topic. But then I find myself trudging through pages upon pages of inside jokes and personal conversations. I go on forums to waste spare time. Now I find myself wasting time while I'm wasting time.

Also, differing opinion from yours doesn't mean that person is upset. Stop using that as an "argument".
