Didn't like Richard's solos that much. It all sounded pretty much like the improv he does most of the time in live performances. Also, the switching to a higher gain guitar sound in the middle of the solo was pretty jarring to me.

Frank was nice, nothing very much to say about that.

That's the only thing I dislike about his playing, he rarely surprises with his note/technique-choices. To me, nearly every of his solo sections depending on the genre sound (too much) alike because he keeps repeating the same licks over and over, more than any other guitarrist in Guns. If you like it, you could say he has a very high recognition factor, to me it tends to be a little boring.

For the song: Sounded a bit random to me, to throw this little solo section in the song.

  2. I think its only Robin for two reasons (although I'm not entirely sure). The lead guitar work sounds a lot more like him than Bucket, rhythm guitar could be both. But the fact, that the track includes the piano breaks makes me think, that it could be more of a "band-track" with Robin that has been worked on with the line up before Buckethead joined rather than the more Bucket-esque tracks.

But like I said, pure loud thinking, could be exactly the other way around, although I would be pretty surprised if the lead guitar isn't Robin.

Although can we trust insiders when even some of the actual people in the band seem to have absolutely no clue what is going on regarding releasing a new album? *cough* Richard Fortus *cough*   For example Fortus basically implies in all his interviews "I have absolutely no idea when the songs we worked on will come out but I hope they do"

One thing I have learned over the years, I just think it is best not to get hyped over anything unless it is an official announcement coming from GNR and even then not getting hyped until a new song is actually able to be listened to.  I am sure that Big Boss guy has some cool stories, but nobody is reliable IMO, not even the people in GNR anymore

Sorry, I know exactly what you mean, maybe I phrased my post wrong. I just wanted to point out, that for me, that source holds much more credibility than for a example if I read something which came from gunsnfnroses. Of course he can only pass something on, which he's heard (or share his touring/marketing knowledge) which turnes out to be not true in the end.

I'm sure that insider, like all insiders, is full of shit.

To be fair, that info came from Big Boss from the old sp1at-forum, who has definitely some connections as far as I'm concerned (quite a few stories came from him and gigger back in the day through interviews and such).

Of course, he also posted rumours, which turned out to be not true, but on all forums, he is the one, who I put most faith in.

I can beat both of you... I hope I'm allowed to post the following video due to the new YouTube policy on MyGNR

Having said that, Slash has hundred of collaborations. Most of them are pretty cool to awesome. Compared to the amount of guest appearances he did over the last decades, there are a few which you didn't would expect him doing and very few which are ... embarrassing.

That was probably the lowest point, I couldn't believe he was doing this song when I first heard it... Especially since the main solo could be played by anyone playing guitar for one year, there was no need for him to be in this.
On a happier note, since you mentioned Slash's other collaborations, Street Child by Elan is still one of his best solos in his catalogue and proves, what he is able to, when he just slows things down a bit, contrary to his playing on recent tours.

  6. Quick question from me: I wanted to post about my band doing a few coversongs from GNR, Santana etc, played by us, which are on youtube but I don't want to cause any trouble. Am I allowed to post them nowadays?
    Thanks for your help!

  7. Two little things I just noticed:

    1) Me & My Elvis reminds me structurwise extremely of Ten Years Gone with the building guitar melodies at the end of the song.

    2) I don't think it matches perfectly but when I listen to the solo section of D-Tune at 3:10, I immediatley thought of his "funny" little solo section at RIR 2001 (at 1:34:10 in the clip), except that here the rhythm is much more organ-based.

  8. Since we talked briefly in another thread about him, I wanted to open a thread for Eric Gales, who is in my opinion the most interesting guitarist in the scene today. Here are a few of this jams with the other greats, enjoy if you have the time, incredible stuff! I feel like  I see more and more talk of him but still not nearly enough given his talent.

    3. Slash/Matt FCKN' Pike

My objection is for Slash. He's a MONSTER but not No.1.

Man, thanks for bringing some recognition to Eric Gales, this guy is a monster, Slash doesn't even hold a candle to that guy (My opinion only :-D). To name some more obvious names: Derek Trucks, Guthrie Govan, ...

  10. These two are really amazing! I think the passage from 2:15 on in Quick Song is my new favourite music section of all the leaks, love the Trampled Under Foot-Keys with the overdriven Guitar. Little Tidbit, in the second solo, Robin uses the exact same guitarlick he uses in the first PC Solo live in 2002.
Also towards the "Robin likes LZ"-comment: I remember seeing a video of him performing Ten Years Gone and Rain Song while his wife was performing to it, sounded also really nice!

Also, hearing a little 5/4 in Guns is never wrong ;)

This place is a cesspool vacuum. There is almost zero difference between these ‘99 leaks and the album release. And, people here are praising some negligible difference with extreme hyperbole.

I really think, some of us (me included) analysed every part of every live song pre 2008 with the imagination "Man, what would a studio-version sound like...". And then the studio-versions came and about some songs, you couldn't help but feel a little bit underwhelmed. Prime examples for me would be Street Of Dreams and Catcher. The Blues was probably my favourite song but I simply can't stand the studio-version because of the mix and Ron (to be exact: I adore Rons contributions, for example I'm one of the few people who think his Rhiad-Solo is just perfect for the song, much better than before, I just can't stand his guitar tone on The Blues and Catcher, did he use his Line6 amps-still?). Now we have a high quality version with the synths high in the mix, perfect! Or Catcher, Robins (?) rhythm-guitar in the outro is so much more audible due to Brian starting his outro-solo later than Bumble. Perfect aswell! I think someone mentioned, it was "cathartic", to listen to Catcher, that was my feeling aswell.

Two additional things I noticed: Catcher isn't the same as the 2006 leak because a guitar overdub in the intro is missing there (which I almost always assumed was Bumble since it was first heard in the studio-version). And I'm still waiting, from which songs Axl performed parts in his 2002 Piano-Solos. For example, there are two parts here after the Asshole song, which aren't part of any song, right? Atleast the second part after Asshole sure sounds like a songpart, just like the Prostitute-excerpt.

Agree, it's more about laying Ghosts to rest regarding our collective interests in the unheard mythical stuff. And the added bonus of hearing song titles for the first time that have been unknown until now.

Exactly, plus hearing especially what Robin and Tommy were able to achieve. I love Robins Stuff on Chinese and there are so few moments from his entire career, where you can really hear his unique style (which may not be for anybody, agreed)

To think that they worked all those years on these songs and all the public got to hear were 15 songs....

  13. Each also has at least one track sung by other members of the band: lead vocals on "So Fine" are performed by bassist Duff McKagan - the song, that was dedicated to punk rock musician Johnny Thunders, who died from a drug overdose before the recording of the album.

I think you mean "Put your arms around a memory" with the Johnny Thunders dedication, don't you? Or was So Fine also dedicated to him?
