Thing that surprises me most is all the really heavy bands on the bill that GN'R is performing after. That is most defintely NOT a This I Love type of crowd...

Going by my iPod, this was what 2013 was like for me...
Artist: Steel Panther
Album: Fortress - Alter Bridge
Song: Hail To The King - Avenged Sevefold -
What a great year for seeing great bands it has been for me!
Saw Metallica headline Soundwave festival in February, Guns N' Roses in Melbourne in March, Bruce Springsteen in Sydney a week later, then Stone Festival a month later with Aerosmith and Van Halen, as well as Kings of Chaos.
And last week I saw Buckcherry and Steel Panther, who were both awesome!2013 may be hard to top as far as seeing so many great bands!

Say what you will about Metallica, but this is cool as hell for their fans... literally! hahaha
Surprised that they didn't bust out Trapped Under Ice or Stone Cold Crazy for this occasion thoughKirk seems to have gotten worse over the years, and I'm sure the cold didn't help him here either.
But James still plays tight rhythm guitar, and he has a bit of growl back in his voice too.

Fucking great news, as AB's albums have always sounded heavy and FAT!!!!
Maybe Slash will finally get a great big fat drum sound behind his guitars again, that has been kinda lacking since GNR and VR
Apocalyptic Love's drums sounded like the drummer was playing on a cardboard box....

Hail To The King is good, and Nightmare and City of Evil have some great songs, but I think start to finish, their self-titled effort is their best.

Wasn't ADKOT a compilation of old unused riffs? This album won't live up.
I think it was a mix of both, old demos as well as new stuff.
Either way, it was great, and I look forward to more!
Never saw 'em live. What is Dave doing?I love that they borrowed heavily from old demos. It's like we got a lost Van Halen album from the 70s. I expected a pile of crap album from the reunion, but they absolutely blew me away. I do know now though to not go several hours out of my way to see the live shows though, Dave does everything within his power to ruin them.
I saw them live in April here in Australia, and while the band sounded absolutely amazing, DLR was all over the place, out of key, out of tune, and completely out of sync.
It's like he couldn't even hear the band he was that much out of time. Maybe he couldn't...

Suspicious Minds is one of my favourites, as is Always On My Mind. And we cover Burning Love in my band too

I loved This Is Gonna Hurt. Great album with some cool riffing and some very tasteful solos from DJ.
And you can't deny that these guys know how to write a good pop-rock song with plenty of hooks.
I think it shows the potential DJ could have in writing with Axl for GN'R
Definitely looking forward to the new album from them!

I think it sounds great actually, and I'd always thought Bumble's style was too odd for writing new GN'R music.
The structure, the solos, and even the Axl imitation, makes it sound like it could definitely work. Ron really impressed me with this!Let's hope it inspires Axl, and we one day get a new GN'R tune out of it!

"crowd lapped it up after the initial shock with the rendition a far better version than what Axl and his band bought to Australia earlier in the year."
Yeah I doubt that.
Speaking as someone who attended one of those Australian shows earlier this year, I highly doubt Limp Bizkit's best performance of Jungle would top even GN'R's worst performance of Jungle.
And GN'R sounded pretty damn good on their Aussie tour in March, so um, no. They are incorrect.

I think a thread wasn't started because there isn't much to talk about yet. Yes, production seems to have started, but we can really only go by tweets that Slash in "in the studio" working on like 10 songs. Thats awesome, but hardly anything we can discuss over. Its not like GNR where the mere fact that they are in the studio is news. Luckily with Slash, thats just expected progress. We can only really talk when a sample he's working on comes out or it gets closer that they are talking about it.
Also, I do think Todd will probably get the chance to sing a song on this one. Myles is great, I'm just thinking that Todd's presence live really elevated during the AL tour and I think Slash will want to write a song or two with him. I'd be very surprised if he doesn't sing on this record.
And I totally agree Cosmonaut. While Slash's solo stuff has been great, it does suck we haven't gotten something epic like Coma or Locomotive. That would be really cool, and the closest we've gotten is Anastasia, which is awesome but completely different than those.
The riffing in Standing In The Sun sounds very much like Locomotive to me.
And I think that was kind of Slash's intention too, so he wouldn't have to rely on playing an old GN'R tune, he could just make a new song with a similar vibe.
Of course, thats not to say that Standing In The Sun is anywhere close in the league of Locomotive, but it has a similar vibe, and to me its one of the better songs on Apocalyptic Love

There is a free disc in this month's Classic Rock Magazine which is basically, an Alter Bridge greatest hits; well most of the hits are live and it also features two-three songs from the new album. I had never heard them before but judging from that, they seem pretty decent. I am however one of the few who likes Myles's voice (in relation to Slash)!
I think Myles is better suited to Alter Bridge vocally, as his voice seems to blend better with Mark Tremonti's as well as the music, but he's great with Slash too

Fortress has been out in Australia since last week, and I love it.
It's probably their heaviest album to date, the riffing and soloing is really stepped up a level. Myles vocals are pretty damn good too, and the production is huge as always.
It's mixed very well to my ears and sounds good cranked up on my car stereo!
Favourites so far are Cry of Achilles, Bleed It Dry, The Uninvited, and Calm The Fire, but the whole album is really strong.

I heard that the Stones wanted GN'R to open for them a while back in the mid-2000's, but only if it was the original lineup... not sure if there is any truth to that

Holy shit, what an awful glimpse into a miserable life that was. Ugh! He just looks so thoroughly fucking MISERABLE. What a sour puss. And who can blame him? He's in some isolated weird club in Japan full of Brazilians or some other South Americans. And all these weirdos and creeps are fawning all over him, and there are NO hot girls. And the club is tacky and ugly and playing shitty music and it's fucking empty. Beta hovering over his shoulder the whole time. Some poor Japanese woman (translator?) sitting next to him with a stone blank stare on her face while he sits there and SCOWLS. Jesus.
And if this was indeed 40 minutes before he was supposed to hit the stage, no wonder the show started 2 hours late and I missed my train. Roppongi is nowhere near the venue!!
^this
Kinda sad that Beta is there with him, considering she's like his mum. I wouldn't go fuckin clubbing with my mum, but Axl does...

I love the riffs and solos DJ has contributed to SixxAM, as well as his Ballad of Death solo spot.
So I'd be curious to see what he'd bring to GN'R.
I think his style is much better suited to Axl, than Bumblefoots quirky songwriting.

Slash is smashing out albums these days, the man is on fire. So great for us Slash fans!
