My money’s on Fermanager. He could see the shitstorm brewing online with the botched release date and threw in Monsters to clear up the confusion. Can you imagine how said shitstorm would’ve spiralled out of control if we only got to hear The General when fans had believed for over 10 years that Soul Monster was The General?

Sounds batshit crazy but that’s my take.

I don’t think it’s batshit crazy. It’s been confirmed that some of the original leaks in the early to mid 2000s came from Fernando.

I think TB has realized that Axl has a hard time releasing new music so they’ve done some things behind the scenes to force Axls hand.

Fernando is a FRONT MAN to you? 🤨 Axl is the Front Man, Fernando is more like a Figurehead, not a Front Man.

Front man has two meanings. The meaning in reference to Fernando I was using-

a person used as a cover for some questionable activity. synonyms: figurehead, front, nominal head, straw man, strawman. type of: beguiler, cheat, cheater, deceiver, slicker, trickster. someone who leads you to believe something that is not true.

  3. It seems as if Axl went in opposite directions with nuguns as opposed to old guns. With old guns he did try to control the band but was labeled a controlling asshole, so he went the opposite direction with nuguns and basically just hired a bunch of musicians and really only told them “make some music and I’ll decide when/if to add some vocals”.

Either way neither of the directions Axl tried to steer the band didn’t work.

  4. I remember back in the MSL days he said something about getting a call from Beta and she was saying something about “you all are going to drive him crazy (meaning Axl), you all demanding new music”

It’s been years ago so I’m sure the quote is off but it was definitely about the fans and new music.

And if history has proven anything every other member and ex member of the group has had no problems releasing new music on a regular basis. Definitely not on the level of their gnr releases but nonetheless new music. And Axl has released OMG, CD, Hardskool, & Absurd. 17 tracks since 1999.

Regardless of whether it’s in relation to forthcoming tracks or tracks that have already come out, sad to see GNR members holed up in their little individual studios recording parts. I know that’s how music is made nowadays, and covid was a thing, but it doesn’t fill me with hope for any significant improvements on HS or absurd (which sound a bit patchwork and vibeless in my humble opinion, though I do enjoy HS).

all the best albums were done with the guys in a studio with a producer. Just a widespread thing in music nowadays which I think is detrimental. Personal studios and home recording is fun and I’m very guilty of it, but why would a band with a budget like GNRs not at least make even a vain attempt at creating a ‘band’ vibe. It’s a bit of a corksniffing elitist issue to have, but I can always hear the lifelessness of a track put together like this - I’m sure fortus is using the most expensive mics and preamps money can buy, but like Pat Carney said in his recent interview with Sunset Sound, nothing really can reproduce the vibe of the band in a studio.

Isn't that exactly what Moby suggested to Axl when he was briefly brought in during the Chinese democracy album? Something along the lines of "rent out an old studio in New York for a week and just stay in it and record". And Moby more or less quit hearing from Axl after that?

This is definitely the best the drums have ever sounded on a UYI recording. The mix is fantastic. Overall though, not much different in terms of orchestration - and that's a good thing I think. It's the same iconic song with a bit more clarity and some parts stand out more as a result. I dig it.

I don't think so. The vocals have just been brought more forward in the mix during the outro so bits that previously sat lower in the mix are a lot more audible now. I think the vocals are a touch louder throughout the song as a whole than they ever were - likely to just make them stand above the orchestra if I had to guess.

Ahh that makes sense. Sounds really good IMO.

Agreed, though that’s not necessarily an apples to apples comparison. Dr. Dre is known more as a producer than as an artist himself, so while we’re constantly craving a new Dr. Dre solo album, you can hear his production work on new tracks being released every year.

The same can’t be said for Axl.

    Great point.

I think that also adds to the “where’s Axl?” aspect. People at least hear music that dr dre contributed to. What was Axl last vocal feature?, Bazs solo album?

The same thing I’d do if I had his money. Hang out. Chill at my beautiful house.

He’s stated that he’s not a recluse like everyone thinks - he just doesn’t hang around Hollywood/the usual celebrity spots.

I’m sure it’s not unusual to see Axl out at a restaurant with some friends in certain areas. He might even make a Target run every once in a while. I’m sure he goes to the movies.

    That type of shit.

This idea that Axl is in a studio cooking up masterpieces that he’s squirreling away for some grand release is fanboy nonsense. He’s a 60 year old man who who conquered the world a few times over and got obscenely rich doing so. He’s chilling.

I agree, although I do think there certainly is some insulating from the outside world that is done by TB/those around Axl. Be it at either Axls request or TB doing on their own.

I think there is a bit of Dr.Dre aspect to Axl as well…Lots of people around Dr.dre will say “I don’t know why he won’t release a new album, every song I’ve heard is INCREDIBLE”, it basically echoes what those around Axl say.

IMO anyone who has access to these guys isn’t going to say “yeah, he has a lot of unfinished demos that I suppose could be something”

Sometimes people underestimate how big GNR still is as well. To be precise GNR is currently the 121th most listened artist on Spotify, so GNR is more popular on Spotify than for example The Rolling Stones.

GNR just had one of the most succesful tours of all times, so they're not a totally forgotten band, like some people seem to think.

One thing that should be taken into consideration here is the fact that unlike the fans of Kanye West, for example, GNR fans are starving for new music. Yes, there's many artists who are more popular than GNR at the moment, but those artists are constantly releasing new music, so their fans don't have to resort to unreleased songs as much as GNR have to. That might explain why people search for unreleased GNR songs so much. There is evidence that the algorithm brings up other popular artists as well, when you search for their unreleased music. But let's be real here. Most popular artists release new music on a constant basis, so their fans don't have to resort to unreleased material, like GNR fans have to.

People still starve for unreleased eminem songs days after he releases new ones. Check out an eminem forum, you have pages and leaves of people talking about previously unreleased tracks.

People always want new music, think about after CD was released a lot of people were still asking about “the general” and all of the other unreleased tracks.

But if the algorithm thing were true, then all of the 13 year old kids would have their favorite artists popping up for everything, or the trolls who hate would have their least favorite artists popping up when searching “my music is shit”.

  10. If everyday users could affect the Spotify algorithm the search results would be an absolute mess. Sometimes we get locked in to this world that we think gnr is still the biggest thing.

It’s not 1991 anymore and if the algorithm thing we’re true you’d have hundreds of unreleased titles and various other BS titles bringing up results for more popular artists.

  11. A lot of people have pointed to the fact that one of Axls biggest co-writers (leaving Izzy out of this), West Arkeen passing away really had a bad effect on Axl (leaving out the personal side of it) the song writing side of things. And something obviously happened to Axl between 1998 to 1999, whereas we don't have any facts his appearance definitely changed and along with that rumor is his voice changed as well.

So when you factor in Axl losing West in 97. And the rest of old GNR between then. Id have to imagine he wasn't exactly overflowing with lyrics (and this point was even brought up by Zakk Wylde when Axl said something to him along the lines of "What am I going to write about?, I have so many people suing me and other stuff going on"). Also factoring in that it took almost 10 years between starting on CD to the actual release (that Axl didn't want to anyways). And endless touring with NUgnr from 08-16, then the reunion with endless touring. I do not believe we will get an album of original material, and this is no fault of Slash or Duff based on them putting out their own material throughout the years, it is all on Axl.

And it seems the biggest irritant of TB and Axl is the fans asking about new material. So there is a definite issue there.
