They really should cover Lynyrd Skynyrd on the next tour/album

I always felt GNR had some Lynyrd Skynryd in them. Slash like to pay the major pentatonic scale to which can give songs country feel. Like Intro lead lick to Paradise City. Also Slash loves double stop bends that are very common in Southern Rock and Country. Axl reminds me a lot of Ronnie Van Zant. That Smell, Simple Man, Free Bird Outro, Give Me Back My Bullets, all have elements I think that GNR has in Songs like Civil War, Paradise City, KOHD, Breakdown, Locomotive, etc.

Civil War reminds me of Free Bird, with the slow introspective beginning building up into the fast-paced jam at the end. GNR's Skynyrd influences are pretty clear in that song IMO.

Still, no more covers, please!!!

Axl even said that he felt the first half of Use Your Illusion II had a southern rock vibe going on

Edit. Here you go...The quote from the man himself.

Axl: There's stuff like "Heaven's Door" and "Civil War" and the song "Yesterdays" and a song called "Breakdown", that definitely have a bit of a southern rock feel. I'd say "Paradise City" like in the chorus has that, and "Sweet Child" kinda has that.

Besides GN'R has a bit of everything in their music, that doesn't mean they should go around touring with Kanye West.

I remember hearing it not too long ago on a interview that I downloaded, but I got the exact quote from http://www.gnrsource.com/songinfo/uyi2/civilwar.htm

Touche.

Even so, they do have tons of diffrent influences in their music, but that's really interesting.

I just don't think a GN'R and Lynyrd tour isn't a great idea simply because it wouldn't mix well. It would be two diffrent crowds wanting to see too diffrent bands, regardless of the small southern influences GN'R has had.

I agree. A tour with both bands wouldn't work too well. It would be nice to hear these guys rip something like Free Bird or something though. But I do agree with you. Two different bands, that draw two different types of fans.
