Becket
Can anyone tell me how I can free up space on my computer?Capacity is 15.7 GB and I'm down to 431 MB! My wife likes to download trial games then delete them when the trial time is up. I think there is still stuff from them leftover. How do I find and get rid of them. Any help greatly apreciated. kevin
disk clean up-------(This is from memory so it might be off...) start >> programs >> accessories >> system tools >> disk clean upcheck which programs you never use, and remove them. There should be a 'last date used' metric or somethingcheck too see if you have a shit ton of system restore points, if so remove somedefragyou could also decrease swap space, but i don't recommend that.. Max™
Use CCleaner to remove rubbishy files. It does a better job than the normal windows one.
kevin
becket if you're really finding yourself getting low on space, you should look into some external hard drives. They're relatively cheap nowadays.

maXx
i run a Mac and it's been a while since I had a pc. but i recall I used to do a search "all files and folders" with keywords of whatever you want to remove.. then you just manually delete them as they come up in the results. I suppose there's a quicker way to do that these days, cause it does take a while to search your whole hard drive (especially when you already have a ton of shit in there to search through)

I'm moving to a new city next month, once I get settled there I'll probably get a new one.Use CCleaner to remove rubbishy files. It does a better job than the normal windows one.I use that too. maXx
If you want overpriced hardware, yeahnot really over priced when you consider how virus proof they are. I've been running our intel mac for 3 years without any anti virus whatsoever on it. And my kids go on all the popular teenage sites that are rife with malware, spyware and the like. I haven't had to fork out one cent since we bought it. You get what you pay for buddy, and in the long run it pays for itself if your smart. Well if he's content with a 500 celeron with 64 megs of ram, and a system that really cannot be upgraded significantly then yeah, stick with the old one. I'll have a look Becket when the Family and I come over for dinner tonight.

Becket
Well I did free up space as I said before, but my computer has been slow and stuff, I had a guy look at it, he took my computer for 2 days, I just got it back earlier today. He did 12 hours of work on it and removed lots of crap, he installed Avast anti-virus, Win XP manager, Spybot Search & Destroy, Super Anti spyware pro, and a Anti-malware. He cleaned regestry (3383 invalid items) He also did a virus scan, found 504 infections. (and no, I don't dowload porn)But she's running better now.Oh yeah, and we got more RAM. He exchanged a 64 RAM chip with a

Also, "virus" proof is NOT related to the hardware but the software, in this case the operating system (which I think is great, however this was NOT my point). OSX is decently priced, but if you look from a hardware perspective you're getting comparatively ripped off ! If you're "proud" of not having screwed up your computer in 3 years then...Anyone can keep a computer working if you aren't stupid. And even if you do mess it up, it's not hard to fix. Fact is, you are overpaying for a mac, and overpaying by quite a bit. You're paying for trendy style and steve job's health bill.

Tater Totts
I have a Mac and no they are not virus proof, the thing is most viruses are written for Windows as most people have Windows computers as thats the best way to do the most damage, also some viruses have to be downloaded and .exe doesnt work on a Mac however if some of this stuff was .dmg then there would be alot more problems.Obviously people want to damage as much as they can with viruses and I bet 100% that if the ratio of PC's to Macs was reversed there would be alot more viruses on the Macs then PCs as it wouldnt be worth the effort to make viruses for minority systems Edited March 12, 2009 by Tottenham Hotspur
