Durant la présente tournée de son groupe, Montréal a patienté une petite heure avant que le chanteur ne fasse son entrée sur scène. Ottawa? Deux heures. Québec s'en sera tiré avec 1h55, lundi, au Colisée.Oui, il faut être un fan patient, maso ou sacrément fidèle pour pouvoir apprécier Guns N' Roses en spectacle. Faut également être prévoyant : l'équipe technique, à la régie, passait le temps en se lançant un ballon de football. Dans la foule, on utilisait son iPhone pour s'amuser avec un quelconque jeu vidéo, quand on ne sirotait pas une énième bière...Officiellement, la formation américaine était attendue pour 21h20; officieusement, pour 22h20. Alors à partir de 22h45, la foule a commencé à crier et à faire la vague. En vain. À 23h05, les huées ont commencé. La consolation? Une grosse récompense au bout de l'attente : pas moins de trois heures de show, selon ce qu'on sait des autres concerts. Ils étaient donc 6500, selon le promoteur, à s'être mis sur le même fuseau horaire qu'Axl Rose.Six mille cinq cents, c'est 2500 de moins qu'au précédent passage du band. Peut-être que le parterre, à peine rempli au quart, a joué sur la motivation de l'excentrique chanteur. Le groupe a finalement fait son entrée avec la pièce-titre de Chinese Democracy à 23h15, dans une pétarade d'effets spéciaux.Heure de tombée oblige, impossible de vous servir une critique digne de ce nom dans le journal aujourd'hui. Faudra aller surfer dans le blogue des Arts pour la lire.L'ami BachSebastian Bach, bon ami d'Axl Rose, s'est chargé de chauffer les planches pour Guns. Ce serait faux de dire que l'ancienne voix de Skid Row a impressionné. S'il paraît dans une excellente forme physique et qu'il met beaucoup d'énergie, son répertoire est quelconque, ralliant tous les clichés du rock lourd américain : excès de cris suraigus, musiciens qui tapissent plus que le client en demande, solos de guitares carburant au nombre de notes plutôt qu'à la mélodie, poses macho, etc. Franchement, c'était tout sauf mémorable, d'autant que Bach, maniéré au possible, tombait souvent à côté des notes. Il a compensé en faisant tout pour attirer l'attention du public, s'efforçant de parler - ou plutôt de crier - en français, même si on était loin de tout comprendre...La foule, indulgente, a apprécié la reprise de vieux titres de Skid Row. Le plus intéressant était cependant la présence du jeune guitariste Nick Sterling qui, du haut de ses 19 ans, étonnait avec son approche bluesy. D'ailleurs, les rares pièces aux racines blues auront mieux fonctionné.Sympathique DankoLa soirée s'est amorcée avec le trio Danko Jones. La formation torontoise avait une tâche pour le moins ingrate : mettre dans le bain une foule clairsemée, plusieurs heures avant qu'Axl ne fasse son arrivée... Avec ses riffs évoquant AC/DC, beaucoup d'attitude et un indéniable charisme, le leader et guitariste qui donne son nom au trio a fait un excellent boulot. Qui plus est, la troupe, contrairement à celle de Bach, était servie par une excellente sono. Une performance honnête qui, peu à peu, aura gagné la foule. In all, a very good review, in all, over 3 hours of show time that the crowd appreciated. He also mentions that the crowd liked the old Skid Row songs played by Bach.I took this from LE SOLEIL which the Quebec City daily newspaper. Posted February 3, 2010 Share Posted February 3, 2010 It's not exactly a very good review...The review basically says that the musicians are talented, that Axl has a great voice, but that the show loses its pace way too often because Axl leaves the stage every thirty seconds and because the setlist is weird and that even though the reworked live versions of Chinese Democracy songs sound great, they fall flat in the middle of songs like Nightrain, Paradise City, WTTJ etc...They say however that even though the original lineup is gone, Axl is finally surrounded by a solid lineup. I translated myself the part about GNR if some of you are interested:We all know that Axl Rose has never been the punctual type. During the current GNR tour, Montreal had to wait a little hour before the singer finally took the stage. Ottawa? Two hours. Québec? 1 h 55 minutes, at the Coliseum. Yes, you have to be a patient fan, S&M or extremely loyal in order to appreciate a Guns N' Roses show. You also have to be forehanded: the crew kept throwing a football balloon in order to pass the time. In the crowd, people kept playing video games on their iPhones, and drinking one more beer...Officially, the American band was supposed to take the stage at 9:20 p.m., or realistically at 10:20 p.m. So at 10:45 p.m., the crowd started screaming and doing the wave thing. In vain. At 11:05 p.m., people started booing. The consolation? A big reward to this long wait: A three-hour show, as it was the case in most concerts from this tour. There was a crowd of 6500 fans, according to the promoter, all on the same time zone as Axl Rose. 6500 people, it's 2500 less than the last time the band played here. Maybe the fact that the General Admission was not even half full wasn't motivating enough for the excentric singer. The band finally started the show with his sing "Chinese Democracy" at 11:15 p.m., with lots of pyro and special effects. Because of this gazette's deadline, it is impossible for me to give you a full review of the show in this newspaper today. You will have to surf the Arts section in order to read it. burden Posted February 3, 2010 Share Posted February 3, 2010 It's amazing that one of the things holding this band back is Axl's insistence on going on stage at 11 PM. He is not at a club. He is an arena catering to the majority of fans who have jobs, kids, responsibilities and get out a couple times a year. He kills the energy because everyone is too tired. It can be said that this is whining, but I would counter that it is reality. His fan base is 35-45 and do not go out to clubs to drink, party, etc. Even if he were in a club, that is a different experience where people are there as much to meet people and hook up as they are to see a band.
