The Most Expensive Album Never Made

Good read. Probably very factual as well.

Also, should shut people up about the typical slash lover/axl hater insults about the album taking 10 years and 13 million dollars to make.

People represent that in the wrong way.

Axl didn't spend 10 years working on the album. He spend bits and pieces of time, spread out over 10 years. Including going YEAR long stretches without touching the songs. There is a HUGE difference between sporratically (spelling) working on something over ten years - compared to spending 8 hours a day, 50 weeks a year, for 10 years straight.

And the cost.

Axl didn't spend 13 million dollars working non-stop on an album.

The part in the story describing the expensive piece of studio equipment the band rented and paid (going from memory here) something like 20 grand a month for two years for - but only actually used the thing for 30 hours --- should stop the "this is all we get for 13 million" stupid comments.

Probably 2/3 of the money spent on the album was just "wasted" money. Maybe 1/3 of the cost was actual recording cost for Chinese Democracy.

Yes, you can argue that ANY money spent by Axl recording music in the last 15 years should be atributed to Chinese Democracy. But in the overall scheme of things, you know that it's not true. Most of that money was wasted by Axl. It wasn't spent specifically on the songs we received for Chinese.
