PJ Harvey - Let England Shake

doesnt need any up tempo numbers at all.

To me it does. I'm more a fan of her uptempo stuff (i.e. Stories from the City.., Uh-Huh Her).

it's rich with melody and structure.

Not really. Poor structuring and very vague...brooding, like To Bring You My Love.

It's not bad, but it is hardly her best work.

I've heard nothing but good things about PJ Harvey and this album seems pretty credible. But I am reluctant to start with it if it is questionable. Anyone give me a good starting album? Would be much appreciated.

to bring you my love -> stores from the city, stories from the sea -> rid of me

try em all, even if you don't like one of them. they're quite different in terms of style and songwriting.

let england shake is easily top 3 pj. fucking great, apart from the sleeve

What 2 albums would you put above it?

tbyml (easily one of my top 10 or 15 favorite albums of all time) and 4-track demos (with stories... and rid of me as 4 and 5, respectively)

not one weak record in her catalog, though. that's impressive

speaking of peej, "naked cousin" from the crow soundtrack is one of her best songs. heavier than idunnnowhat

I think this is the best thing she's ever done.

better than stories, and to bring you my love.

Polly Harvey doesnt have a single bad album though.

One of the most important female artists of all time.

Up there with the likes of Kate Bush, Patti Smith etc.

A true poet and songwriter, and the female equivalent of bowie, in terms of being a musical chameleon.

fuck me, what a woman.
