axl8302
How common are $2 albums in the US?? Here in Australia, the cheapest you would find any CD would be something like $7-$8.It's certainly common for Best Buy, they were selling 'The Who - Endless Wire' CD/DVD for $1.99 and 'Amazing Journey' for $0.99 (which was a best buy exclusive) not too long ago. Go to any Best Buy and tell us what percentage of CD's are $1.99. They do this when they have stock that's not moving for a prolonged period and they need to get rid of it to free up shelf space.Does it happen in the case of the occasional fire sale like this, yes. Is it common, no. Even the used-cd stores like Disc Replay usually get $3.99-$4.99 for really bad crap.... (hopefully you understand sarcasm)Like I said, it happens occassionally if a particular album ain't movin' over a long period and they need to clear the shelf. The Who doesn't suck just like GNR doesn't suck. Just particular albums need to be put on fire sale to try and get rid of 'em. It's hardly a pentagon secret that Best Buy bought enough records upfront for the album to be designated Platinum on the 'shipped to stores' number, but they've only been able to sell about 600K. You do that math and tell me if you think they had a supply 'n demand issue that needed to be addressed.I'm guessing Axl and Daltry weren't exactly doing cartwheels through the BBY aisles over this. But at least in Axl's case, he got the upfront deal and said he doesn't blame BBY. Truly, cooler to sell 600K through Best Buy than sell your soul to friggin' Wal-Mart to maybe sell some extra copies......
