GivenToFly
I doubt my generation (I was born in 1990) will retire before the age of 70, with advances in healthcare, probably later than that.I've got a reasonable pension scheme but who knows if I'll be staying with this company long term. I've already attempted leaving...I've been saving aside from the pension too, but mostly as a consequence of my low spending habits, rather than on purpose. Saving for interest is pretty useless nowadays so I'd like to get into investing in equity at some point but I'd like to have a bit more cash as a cushion in case anything goes wrong. Maybe in a few years...Most people are better off relying on a financial institution with their savings, because they don't have the knowledge, time, inclination etc. to make their own investments, but if you think you can take the reigns then by all means go for it as long as you're aware of the risks.
