bucketfoot
"Scr-Screaming g-g-g-guitar!!!" Love them! Another fan here! They really improved when Tim Skold took over lead vocals, their sound became much more focused. 'Second Coming' was one of the first CD's I got as a kid after previously always buying vinyl. This, alongside 'Heartbreak Blvd' is my favourite track by them: Harry K. Cody was a great guitarist as well. When they went industrial on 'Violent New Breed' just as the hair metal scene was dying it was a smart move, that album fucking rocks and still sounds great today (as does Second Coming). I don't know about as big as GN'R but they were certainly one of the more interesting bands of that era for me and quite ahead of their time, I think. To me they just summed up the whole hair metal thing perfectly though, they were totally over the top and crazy.... just out and out fun! Then mixing in elements of Rap/Industrial etc. I love all that shit! As you say, Skold went on to do some great work with KMFDM and especially Manson, 'The Golden Age of Grotesque' is one of his best records imo. I've always thought they had one of the best band names ever as well, Shotgun Messiah.... just so fucking cool!
