G n F n R
Is the LaGuardia Airport a good alternative to JFK? I'm looking at fares right now and the LaGuardia seems to be much cheaper than JFK. Also it says it's only 8 miles from Manhattan. Thanks! B)
Axls_Disillusion
I was wondering the same shit. But my flight is going in and out of Newark, and someone told me there is a train you can take right to Manhattan. I picked Newark because it had the cheapest rates and its non-stop, no changeovers or shit.

brobot
I always fly into Laguardia then take the NY Airport Service shuttle into Manhattan for around $13. They'll drop you off at your hotel (don't forget to tip). It's usually under $100 to fly from VA on Airtran.
JennaSide
LaGuardia is the airport I use when I travel... not that it means anything to anyone, but it's easy to navigate through and it's not far from the city. There are transportation services like SuperShuttle that you can use to get to and from the airport rather than a cab, too. They're a lot cheaper. And if you're one of those obvious tourists, I'd suggest this because cab drivers that know you don't live in the city can be assholes and really over-charge you. blzbub
I live in Manhattan and typically fly from Newark. It's convenient to the city and tickets are often less expensive than flights into New York. You can take New Jersey Transit into the city, which is a lot less expensive than taking a cab. It's an easy trip in.

madison
If you have a choice, definitely pick LaGuardia. It's far closer - and therefore far cheaper by cab - to the city. You can get from LaGuardia to midtown (if you take the 59th Street bridge and avoid the toll) for as little as $22. .. By contrast, if you fly in from JFK, the cheapest cab fare is about $45. And Newark is far worse -- it's $50-plus. There are shuttles from the airport that are cheaper -- that stop at the major hotels. But if you're traveling with somebody, it's cheaper to take a cab and split the fare. If you take a shuttle everybody has to pay the flat fee. If you're not in a hurry and don't mind a bunch of stops, you can book the "Supershuttle" - which is a van that will take you right to your door. BUT, it takes a van filled with people, which means you'll have a lot of stops before you reach your hotel. I live in Manhattan and typically fly from Newark. It's an easy trip in.Sorry, but I totally disagree. The airfare may be cheaper -- but it's the furthest away of the three airports. If you arrive during rush hour -- good luck to you because it will take literally hours to get into the city because of the traffic. It's not worth it. LaGuardia is the closest and therefore the cheapest to get into Manhattan from.

madison
... What is the weather like in mid May?It's 86 where I am so is it gonna be sweater weather in May in NYC? Well, it was sunny and 75 degrees today -- but that's unusual for April. It's not usually that warm this soon. But it will definitely be that hot - or hotter - in May. wg123
cab rides from laguardia have a fixed rate from the airport to any destination in manhattan... (i think it's 35.00) cabs cannot overcharge (there is a sign posted on the plexiglass divider spelling this out in every NYC cab) the same goes for JFK, but JFK has the airtrain which connects to the A line of the NYC subway, so why take a cab - newark is about as close as laguardia, but traffic is much worse and the cabs are more expensive (interstate + bridge/tunnel tolls) Edited April 21, 2006 by wg123

brobot
What direction are you coming from? You shouldn't park/drive in NYC. Park in NJ and take a ferry/train/cab in to town.

tristanj13
The thing is that Hotels around Laguardia are about double that of what they are by the Newark airport (140 compared to 70.) And the flights are about 12 bucks more. So it still might be cheaper. If I'm flying in the morning of a show I dont think it would take me more than an hour or 2 to get into Manhattan from Newark would it? What about back to Newark after the show? (Around 12 or 1 I'd assume) That couldnt be too long either I would think...

So friends whats the cheapest and closest hotel to our concert venue? If I get a hotel it will only be for one night. Maybe I wont get one after all and will simply stay out all night partying with fellow forum gunners (party info hint hint) or by myself and kick back a bottle of nightrain in a GN'R T-Shirt sitting next to a building. Serious question now. How far away is ground zero from Manhattan. If I could see one thing during my brief stay I would like it to be that. Thanks again friends.
