M_Riot
JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE TO HOST & PERFORM AT MTV EUROPE MUSIC AWARDS COPENHAGEN 2006 Red Hot Chili Peppers Lead With 4 Nominations Muse & Nelly Furtado Confirmed To Perform London/Copenhagen, 19 September 2006 – MTV Networks International today revealed that global superstar Justin Timberlake is confirmed to host and perform at the 13th annual MTV Europe Music Awards (MTV EMAs), set to air live simultaneously from the Bella Center and Rådhuspladsen Town Square in Copenhagen, Denmark on 2nd November 2006. MTV revealed the category nominees with Red Hot Chili Peppers leading the pack with four nominations, closely followed by Madonna, Shakira, Nelly Furtado, Christina Aguilera, Kanye West and Muse with three each. In addition, Muse and Nelly Furtado will perform at the Awards with many more to be announced in the coming weeks along with the exclusive elements of the event available on the web and mobile. The MTV EMAs 2006 will be seen by a potential audience of more than 1.4 billion people on MTV channels worldwide, through TV syndication and digital elements. Ever evolving superstar Justin Timberlake will host and also perform at the most explosive, star-studded music event in the European calendar. In 2003, at the MTV EMAs in Edinburgh, Justin won Pop, Male and Album for his multi million selling debut solo project, Justified. He also treated the audience to an impromptu performance with the Black Eyed Peas on ‘Where Is The Love’. In 2006, Justin is a dual nominee with a nod in Pop and Male, and with his second solo #1 album FutureSex/LoveSound’s released last week, he is the perfect choice to heat up the Copenhagen stage and keep the party rocking long into the night. ‘I’m really excited to be hosting the EMAs for the first time’, Justin commented. ‘I'm working on several ideas with MTV at the moment and there are some great new interactive parts to the show. We're going to take over the city! It's going to be an amazing night...anything can happen and no one is safe!’ Richard Godfrey, Senior Vice President, Content & Music for MTV Networks International and Executive Producer of the show, commented: ‘The 2006 MTV EMAs are shaping up to be the best show yet, and we are delighted to have Justin Timberlake as our show host and a performer. With a diverse slate of nominees representing the most popular local and global artists, this year’s show will be a dynamic multi-screen experience offering audiences tailored show elements on TV, PC and mobile screens. Copenhagen will provide a spectacular backdrop for the event, and we’re looking forward to a night filled with great music and many surprises for audiences in person, at home or on-the-go’. Jamie Caring, Vice President, Talent & Music, MTV Networks International, said: 'As MTV's most widely distributed awards show globally, the EMAs are an integral part of the music industry's promotional activities in the lead up to the holidays. We're looking forward to presenting a compelling and broad line-up of performers from all major music genres, not to mention an enviable list of big name presenters at this year's show to make Copenhagen the premier EMA multi-screen experience'. Red Hot Chili Peppers have been thrilling music fans with their groove heavy, slap bass funk-rock for the past 23 years and show no sign of slowing down. They dominate this year’s nominations race receiving four nods including Album for their multi million selling double disc set, Stadium Arcadium, Group, Rock and Song for ‘Dani California’. Queens of pop Madonna, Nelly Furtado, Christina Aguilera and Shakira will be battling it out on the 2nd November with three nominations each including Female. Madonna, Nelly Furtado and Christina Aguilera all received nods in Album for Confessions on a Dance Floor, Loose and Back To Basics respectively, and Madonna, Christina Aguilera and Shakira will go head to head in the Pop category. In the Song category, Shakira is nominated for her smash hit, ‘Hips Don’t Lie’, and Nelly Furtado for her Timbaland produced hit, ‘Maneater’. Since stepping out from behind the production booth for artists such as Jay-Z, Talib Kweli, Ludacris and Alicia Keys, Kanye West has proven himself to be one of the most vital artists in hip hop today. With two critically acclaimed solo albums under his belt, the superstar rapper and producer notches up three nominations at the MTV EMAs for Hip Hop, Male, and Video for ‘Touch The Sky’. Since their original formation in Devon, UK in 1994, Muse have consistently broken new ground, evolving their sound, look and musical landscape. Their most recent studio album Black Holes and Revelations debuted at #1 in the album charts in the UK and across Europe and has been received by critics as their brightest, most inviting work yet. Having picked up two EMAs in 2004 for UK & Ireland and Alternative, Muse are no strangers to Europe’s most electrifying night of music. Nominated for three EMA trophies this year including Alternative, UK & Ireland Act and Album, Muse are sure to make their performance at this year’s MTV EMAs a memorable one. Canadian-born Nelly Furtado has had an amazing year. Her third and most recent album, Loose, has been the most successful release of her career, generating two smash hit singles, ‘Promiscuous’ and ‘Maneater’. Known for her musical eclecticism, Loose sees Nelly experimenting with a more R&B/hip hop sound combined with dark ’80s electro, a fusion she describes as punk-hop. Nominated for three MTV EMAs this year, Nelly is sure to wow the audience with a truly spellbinding performance. Sponsored by Replay Blue Jeans, The new Opel/Vauxhall Corsa and Sony Ericsson, the MTV Europe Music Awards 2006 will comprise 30 individual categories. The nominations were compiled by MTV Europe’s voting “Academy” of 1700 people, consisting of key figures from the music industry and MTV viewers from across Europe. With the exception of the Video and the Free Your Mind awards, the winners of which are chosen exclusively by MTV Europe, all categories will be voted for by MTV’s audiences. Viewers can vote now for their favourite artists online through MTV’s network of local websites via www.mtveuropemusicawards.com and through WAP at www.mtvema.com for the Song category. Epic
i'm really ashamed of the "rock" category Same here, but at least this is not going to be an emofest like VMA's were. But still, if those are the best rock bands around, things are really going bad.
