HD or Blue-Ray????

Right I'm hearing more and more about these formats. Although these havn't reached the uk yet they are supposed to be by christmas.

To import is a rediculous cost for a dvd player. So, what are the differances? I know, they are only available on Region 1 so that's why this question is directed to the American members.

Can they be hacked into multi-region?

Can the discs be copied?

Is the improved quality only visible on a HD TV??

Can we play our old dvd on these hardware?

:book:

pretty much, no you can't play dvds. the difference between the 2 is ones made by microsoft, the other is made by sony.

Again you proves that you don't have any idea what your talking about.

First off HD DVD is not made by microsoft. That is the biggest Flaw in your statement. It is infact made by several computer companies with Thosiba as the main producer. And both HDDVD players and blue ray players can play normal DVDs.

You are right about that you wont have that big of a improvement on a normal TV. but the sound is better since there is more storage capacity for better and bigger sound files. Even though the picture wont look much sharper on a normal TV.

But If you got a HDTV then it's all good.

I bet you where referance to the fact that Microsoft Xbox360 will soon come with a external HD-DVD player. This will enable the console to show movies in high def. Although games will still use DVD9 for that system.

Sony who is the producer of the blue ray technoligy will release PS3 that will have a internal blue ray drive out of the box. this will enable it to play Blue ray movies from the first day you got it. And it will also let games take advantage of the extra storage compacity.

Blue ray dual layer=50gb.

DVD9= 9gb.

What this will do to the gameing industry is still uncertan. but in the future they will probably need the extra storage space.

So to conclude this. If you just got a standard TV. Don't bother getting a HD-DVD or a blue ray player.

actually microsoft is a big supporter of the hd-dvd format proof the 360.

At first they where actually very unsure where they should stand. That is one of the reasons why there isn't a HD-DVD player in the 360 from day one. They would like to wait and see how things panned out. And they have now chosen to go for the HD-DVD format. And they have now become suporters for the format. But they where thinking about having a seperate Blue Ray drive to. But that was just romured since well, it is sony their main console enamy that produces blue ray. But they could have.

So they didn't jump on HD-DVD from day one. ;)

Blue Ray will have more capacity. They already have 100gb disks out.

Blue Ray is the better technology. More capacity meaning no compression at all.

HD there will be some instances when compression is needed.

Basically it's just a way to get true high definition pictures to your TV. It takes about 24gb of uncompressed data to be true high def. HD taps out right around 24gb.

Blue Ray will come in the PS3, HD is going to be an option to add to the XBOX 360.

XBOX 360 sucks ass, so I will be supporting Blue Ray with the PS3.

also if you get a blue ray burner (currently about $900 bucks) you can back up massive amounts of data from your PC.

That is true. But for that price you can almost get a Terrabyte worht of harddisk space. Where you can add and delete all you want. And no extra disc that needs to be bought. Just my thoughts about that subject.

other then that your post was very good. (except that 360 don't suck ass. It's a good console. but PS3 is gonna be better, even without rumble, RIP rumble :()
