they play the same, the extra strings are just higher octaves

For example when you play a single note, you'll get the normal note you'd expect to hear and the other string will play the same note only an octave higher.

Only certain strings are an octave higher.

A 12 string guitar just gives a fuller sound, like two guitars, or a chorus effect.

They are all tuned eadgbe but 6 out of the 12 strings are an octave higher.

Ive only played one once, its like every 2 strings = 1 string on a 6 string guitar. I just strummed 2 strings like they were one and it worked out, Im sure theres a lot more to having 12 strings than that but I only played it for a few minutes so I have no idea.

You're meant to play the 2 strings (that are the same notes) at once.

It would be pretty hard to play single strings
