Someone younger recently asked me what the whole Grunge scene was like when it was big and asked me to recommend some songs for him to try and get into from that time -

I gave him this:

1) Smells Like Teen Spirit

2) Would

3) Spoonman

4) Garden

5) Down in a Hole

Next?

you guys love the popular songs doncha?

Well, it's not really a matter of liking the popular songs as much as it is the ones that someone can easily recognize, and then go from there and do his own searching thru the albums

Hey, I listed Pearl Jam's Garden which is one of their LEAST mainstream songs - but probably my favorite - the other 4 are big tunes - but I got one in there for ya!

Nirvana - Negetive Creep (nice raw edgy sound)

Pearl Jam - Alive (has the almost self loathing lyrics)

Alice in Chains - Junkhead (nice little number about drugs)

Soundgarden - The Day I Tried To Live (nice and bleak)

Stone Temple Pilots - Interstate Love Song (fuck, I just like it =])

Needs a Mudhoney song and could do with a Smashing Pumpkins.

..maybe some more Nirvana and Pearl Jam too.

Damn, I love grunge.

Anyone heard AIC and PJ doing a song called 'Alone' together? Its beautiful.

Is that Alice and PJ doing that song? I've heard it and it is a very good song, but it does'nt sound like either of them very much. Are you sure?

posh, ten is perhaps the second most mainstream grunge album out there behind nevermind...anything off of that is easy to peg as a mainstream success

if i had to pick a song from pearl jam, i'd pick something off of vs. like satans bed or bugs off of vitology...haha that'd be funny for an introduction to PJ

if you really wanna give em something deep but accessible, give them neil young and pearl jam's version of rockin in the free world

Neil Young. 'Hey, Hey, My, My (Into the Black)' from Weld. That'll show them how it's done ;)
