  1. So the place probably holds 16,000 people for a hockey game. It looked full enough even with the upper-tier empty. Everyone left happy and ready to tell the world that Axl is back. I didn't think I would be happy unless their tickets were hard to come by and each stop sells out in minutes, but after going the other night, I don't feel this way anymore.

Nah, that arena holds over 20,000 for hockey games. There was a good sized crowd there, though, for GNR

  2. During yesterday's show at Tampa, AXL surprised everyone by taking a request song... then boom outta nowhere they played (that's right) I USED TO LOVE HER... it was fuckn' awesome, i haven't heard that song live EVER!!! it was amazing...

On the other hand, the BRAIN has been replaced by some guy named Ferrara... does anybody know the reason behind this?

I was there... awesome show. The request, though, was from Tommy Stinson, not a fan. Axl even said, "A Stinson request..." Was a real highlight though!

Still recovering! I may write my thoughts on the show more specifically later.

  3. This is a dumb thread. "Oh no! Promotion finally! Axl's selling out!" Once the album's out, I'll expect some bitching about the fucking shrink wrap that covers the album. Can't wait for that stupid ass thread.

Promotion or no promotion, you fucks keep reaching for garbage excuses to bash on anything.

1.) Thank you for posting to my dumb thread... It is becoming quite successful!

2.) Yes, I will diss the shrinkwrap. I've heard it is actually covered with the Oscar-Myers Weiner logo so Axl can have a few extra bucks.

  4. Didn't Chinese Democracy sell out when Oh My God was given to End of Days... in 1999!?

Didn't GNR sell out when they gave Welcome to the Jungle to The Dead Pool... BEFORE GNR became famous?

Not sure the original comment is valid in the overall historic context.

And the post about recouping the $13m is spot-on.

*Someone* has to pay for that chicken coop...

Dude, there is a big difference between giving a song to a movie soundtrack and turning your tune into a commercial jingle.

"The hardest part this troubled heart has never yet been through..." might as well be, "The best part of waking up is Folgers in your cup," now- actually, that Folgers jingle was once a U2 song, I think ;)

Welcome to the real world. First of all it's for Harley Davidson not something gay like Haynes Underwear. What do you expect with all these hooray for tolerance!s out there who download the songs for free ??? Bands should just sit back and say ho hum I guess we are losing money let's not do anything about it.

Ouch for Haynes and those who wear them!!!!!!!!

  5. oh shut the fuck up!! guns n roses r a commercial rock band, a business entity, live in the real world for fuckssake, they didnt claim anywhere to be anti-establishment anything. please refer urself to the "commercial burger flipper" speech by axl hisself. what exactly are they selling out? n who the fuck are u to pass judgement on how someone makes their living? it's his music he can sell it to whatever cunt he likes.

i'm glad you make the point its HIS music, kinda backs up the band are employees theory

    I'm with that response!

And of course he can sell out to whomever he wants, but it is just something I don't think artists should do. He can give Paradise City to a Chucky Cheese commercial, but it gives the song a rediculous connotation.

    Pubes.

i actually agree with u about that but thing is its not my desicion or my band to have that y'know, that input or be in a position to make those judgements. i personally dont agree with it but i wont fault people for doing it which is almost a contradiction but not quite i think u'll find. im pretty much ass in the grass into all kindsa music but punk rock was/is/always will be my first n foremost primary root of all existence love n as such i still carry that "sell out" thing around with me in the way my mind works but then again i dont think, in this world we live in where theres people out there who make money by soliciting little children as sex slaves n other such abominations that i could really fault a man by lending a song to a motoring commercial to make some money, it aint a bad way to make a living, theres a lot worse out there, thats alls im sayin, every mans gotta right to get theirs like u get urs.

That got deeper than I expected!! Haha!

  7. i dont think gnr gave the ad permission, thats why they removed it...

but how they got it, god knows

No man, trust me... A major company like HD has to have permission to use a song because they can get sued for copyright violations if they use it without permission. They paid Gn'R to use the song and get themselves publicity (which is smart- it worked!).

  8. Hey, I'm as excited as you all that this Chinese Democracy really seems to be coming out soon, and the commercial is proof of that- that's the good part (even though the snips they play of Better don't show any changes to the song, which I thought still needed some work from the version leaked, but I digress...).

Maybe I am old school, but I feel like artists shouldn't just prostitute their work to sell products, and I was disapointed to see that this is the FIRST thing AXL did with the new material! I expect that from poptarts and rappers, and for Michael Jackson to piss off Beatles fans by selling their songs to commercials, but not Gn'R. And I know that Led Zep and the Who have both done it to, and to be honest, they disapointed me when they did it, but at least it was 30 years after their songs came out (though I still wish I didn't think of a car each time I hear "Bargain.").

Anyways, anyone agree with me here? I just think it is selling out to give new songs to commercials.

  9. Dude, U2, like 'em or not, are a legendary band.

Oasis sucks.. They are terrible, aweful, crappy, and any other word that can be inserted for bad. Their first three albums are actually pretty good, but they turned up the suck to 11 on everything after. They were a band on my "I'll buy whatever they put out" list, even though their good stuff is just a Beatle's impersination, but they took themselves off of that list with their super high level of suckage.

    Pubes!

  10. The entire idea of this thread, seeing it so black and white with cliche reasoning, is bad. Not any of these groups.

In fact that would make you a 4. Perhaps your "other" would be "too cool to respond," yet not realizing that responding with an "I'm not responding" post is actually a response.

    Boo ya, my catch all!!

  11. Alright, maybe I am foolish to be thinking Chinese Democracy is really going to come out this year, but it just seems like the right time and the real deal this time around. So with that, an honest question for us to ask ourselves about our reactions to CD once we finally hear it:

Which camp will you fall into with regard to reacting to the new music (not so much interested in polling as just hearing some thoughts, but...):

1.) Axl's Koolaid drinkers - You love Axl, and even if this thing is a huge peice of crap, you'll love whatever he puts out forever and ever. You will proclaim the greatness of CD no matter what. If you've ever said something like "Silk Worms is cool," you probably fit into this group.

2.) Registered Independant - Glad to hear Axl back, but if the album blows, you'll say so. If it is a classic, you'll hype it as such.

3.) Old School Gunner - No matter what, since Slash is gone, you think the album sucks because Gn'R is Axl, Slash, Izzy... yadda yadda yadda.

4.) Other - I guess if you choose this one you think you're smarter than me. Whatever. Pubes.

Anyways, again, not a poll so much as something to trigger thoughts on your perception going into the Chinese Democracy era.

  12. i wonder if the kidding part is referencing the part on live era where axl asks the crowd to move... :drevil: probably not

you mean when they go into Its So Easy?

isn't he saying "Hit It" ?

yeah that's what i'm talking about you're probably right

I've always thought he's saying, "Idiot!"

  13. Dude, it looks like after the presale AND the tickets being open to the public all day today the floor (standing room) is still not full in Tampa! This is bad news for GnR! For those tix not to fly out of the box office indicates that there is a pretty obvious lack of interest so far. How about a single to stir some interest?

    Pubes.

  14. well, tampa is an hour drive from orlando so i dont think it makes sence to have another one so close. anyways im from tampa and i plan to go to estero too...

    hey meng,

so is estero like 2 hours south of tampa? i am trying to figure this all out since i have to work that friday.

*EDIT: disregard this... i obviously skipped past a few posts that answer that question!

  15. According to mtv.com/news, gn'r will be in Tampa the 10/25. Given that we know they'll be in Sunrise (Ft. Lauderdale) 8/24, Tampa 8/25, and Estero (I think this is Ft. Myers) on 8/27, I am wondering if maybe Orlando might fit in on the 26th. Geographically they'd be back tracking, but just by like an hour and a half from Tampa.

I am in O-town and hoping they come, but I am going to at least one of these shows, dammit!

  16. This is something I have also pondered alot about the album (which I have actually started to let myself believe again will come out some day). Knowing Axl's bitterness, I really think he won't want Buckethead to get any royalties, so I don't think his recordings will stay. I'll add that this would be too ba because BH is a guitar phenom, but I am sure the parts will be covered alright by someone.

  17. What says you guys? It could show them we WANT NEW MATERIAL and not the same fucking setlist night after night..

I want what they gave us from 91-93!

    Um, no.

I agree with your sentiment, that I want less predictable setlists and new material in anyway, but I freakin' love GnR and would love to see them live... My guess is that when push comes to shove, you also wouldn't follow your own recommendation.

    Peace and Pubes.

  18. Is it odd that the best of the new songs (and in some people's opinion, the only good new song) wasn't written by Axl?

the guitar is really lame and uninspriring (except bucket (ron's) parts), axl's melody is what makes the song.

If you knew more about guitar than you apparently do, you'd realize that the chords being played aren't 'boring' power chords.

I'll admit, the riffs in Better are weak when compared to Sweet Child or Estranged, but they're better than the no riffs of today, eh? Plus, There Was a Time has some nice riffage.

are you fucking crazy? i've been playing for 13 years. if those aren't power chords, you can kick me in the nuts!

I second that notion... Been playing 8 years, and those are power chords in the verses. If you got two fingers, you can play it. If you have the verbal ability of a 10 year old, you can pull off the lyrics too!

  19. i dont know why people are gettin at the lyrics. i think axl uses some really intelligent words. i dont think i've ever heard a boy band use infatuation (not complicated but for a boy band...)

Dude, this may make me hella-lame, but I did a little searching on infatuation (probably an advanced word for a 9-year old to use, but pretty basic for adults), and found that one of the new Gn'R's biggest inspirations (wish I was joking), Christina Aguilera, has a song titled Infatuation.

Don't know if the boybands have that basic word in their lyrics like the above poptart, but Axl using it doesn't mean much.

  20. Robin definitly did a good job on this one. The vocals on the 'now I know you better' part are really good. Also I really like the solo. Very bluesy. Anyone else really like his work on Better?

How do we know Robin wrote this one?

Axl said so a couple of times before/after playing the song on this tour

I thought Axl was refering to musical arrangement rather than the writing of the song, that was the impression i got anyway, but when CD comes out we'll know for definate :-)

    LIZ

ARRANGEMENTS????? DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHAT THAT WORD MEANS????????

Musical arrangements my ASS!!!! Though arrangements can make a song, it sure as fucking hell doesn´t mean writing it.

Arrangements is how you hear it, not WHAT you hear. and as for arranging that song. it´s so 4/4 and in the box that any idiot could arrange it.

Better is simple and flameboyant. THANK GOD!!! the simplicity of it makes it a fucking powerhouse!!!

That song is what NIN should´ve done.

And to all of you cocksuckers who say it´s a boyband song. please READ the lyrics.

Scott Weiland´s "when you look you see right through me" is a helluva lot worse!!

Axl is A-League in poetry. To any idiot trying to say anything else should start READING some shit!

You think that words like, "where she was while she was sleeping, in another WOMANS bed" means that the chick in TWAT is a fucking lesbian or BI are the same ppl who think Better sucks.

And should seriously not try to judge poetry that is on such a higher level.

You are the same ppl who WISH you were Axl, and as good as him. But he will always be two feet ahead of you. cus you fucking morons don´t understand that the another woman is the fucking wife of the guy she is cheating with... instead of saying, in another MANs bed! IDIOTS!!

    fucking lowposter newbie motherfuckers!

and yes, I´m NOT a n00b. BAN me all you want. But I´ve been around.

Dude, no offense, but if you think that song is poetry, my guess is you've never really read anything. Your examples (how did Weiland end up in this as proof?) pretty much prove this, but, hey, you don't need to be educated to have an opinion.

Enjoy thinking "You stole my heart. I should have known your crazy" is poetry. Wish I could get that excited about the scribblings on a junior high school girls notebook!
