  1. Oh boy!!!!!!!!!!  This is just mind blowing.... amazing!

    I can't believe this!!!!!!!!

So happy for Steven.  Like, honestly....so happy for him....and myself...just so exciting.

Thanks Axl for however you manage to create excitement whether it be deliberate or not....you just have a way....you always have....even if it takes a lifetime.

Oh and for those thinking that Axl just decided that they should do another....those 2 songs were already decided.   It was totally plannned.

I loved how Steven put the fist out for Axl and then Axl just up the stairs for knuckles....

Well played too Stevie......I would've dropped the sticks in excitement.   Played to perfection.  Note perfect.   Not a dick.....cool.   Great drumming...just like 1987.

It wasn't how he played, it was his overall sound.  It was fine but i'm not sad i am living without it in GnR

Well, my point is that exactly.  It WAS the way he played, not necessarily the sound.  That ain't really his job, the sound itself in the Tokyo home videos isn't so great.

My point is, he played the correct beat and the correct fills that Steven recorded.  He was a replacement to play drums to the songs to the way we all know and love them.  Once a song is recorded and released, it is set in stone.  They are not his songs to change.  So that's why he did a great job.

Frank on the other hand, is modifying the beat on most songs.  Modifying the fills and doesn't fit in.  He is not playing the songs as we know them and it is a shame.  He's not being the replacement, he's being careless and disrespectful to the fans by fucking with the songs.

He is tight and hits all strokes right, but the feeling and groove that once was is gone. There is no power left in Stevens drumming and it feels more like guitar hero then real drums.

Just hope that I'm totally wrong, but my taste in drumming is not going to change.

OK, so what did you think of the RRHOF performance?

The hi hat thing I'm talking about is not the same as you. Listen to the live clip of jungle with frank when he plays the "kn-n-n-n-n-ees part", the hi hat thing with the left hand.

Yeah OK.  Is it like a triplet thing that I remember Frank doing?

The only GN'R song I can think of right now that has hi-hat doodles is Locomotive.

I agree, he would have had 100% but the he does not have the power anymore. I don't see him playing any UYI songs. I am no hater, just a long time fan an realist. My dream would be to see Steven pull it off, the whole setlist.

Im also a drummer and I know what it's like to play the appetite songs, not as easy as some might think.

So you either changed your mind or typed random words.

You said that Steven played Rocket Queen badly in the drum shop video.  Your next post, you agree that he played it 100%.  That is our conversation, not wether or not he could play Illusion songs.

I am satisfied with Frank.  My ideal scenario would be Frank on Illusions/CD and Steven on AFD.  Matt Sorum is a beast and I love his work in VR but I never liked any of his live work for GnR.

I respect Matt as a drummer for GN'R because he played the Appetite tunes as Steven wrote them.  There are very few fills he changed.  There are of course things you do live that makes it a live show, such as double kicks at the ending of Paradise City which was very cool back in the early 90's. But, he 99% of the time played the songs right and that's what made him a great Steven replacement.

I think Frank does a good job, he is defiantly a skilled drummer. His playing on Come was great. He stays true to most of the signature fills and such, that's what matters.

Things I don't like is the way he played don't cry, just to much.

The way he skips the 8th and only plays 4 on the jungle hi hat is just crappy. His hi hat playing while he does cowbell on jungle is pretty cool, it just sound a bit weird when the first stroke doesn't sound as loud as the hi hat. Read that someone complain about that earlier and wrote that he was off beat, but he's not.

Brain was an awful drummer in guns, not at all a rock n roll drummer, CD drummer for sure.

Of course I want to see Steven up there, but can he really play nowadays?

I cant really see him pull off a +2h show, but perhaps a couple of songs here and there. Just look at that clip where he plays rocket queen in that drumstore, it's pretty bad.

OK, opinions are opinions and there's not much I agree with here, but I am boggled as to why you would say Steven played Rocket Queen bad in the drum store video.  If it were on the Guitar Hero game, he would have got 100%.  Honestly, it is the Appetite recording perfect.  I'm not claiming to be some sort of star drummer, but I have played since I was 13 which is 27 years and when I was 13 I  was playing along to the Appetite album night after night.

I know the entire album, which isn't difficult as most Drummer's would know.  It's not how difficult it is, it's how you gel with your band mates and come up with beats and fills that suit.

You have no idea what you're saying.

Oh, and the hi-hat and cowbell simultaneously thing is a Steven thing.  He does that throughout the Appetite album, including the count in of Nightrain etc.  However, not on Think About You.

  8. No posts have been deleted since I've been unbanned.   They were deleted during the time of being banned. Hundreds of posts.   I've had my fair share of rants, I'll admit that.  I've sent numerous emails apologising and requesting to be unbanned until I paid for membership.

From memory, I was banned back when Axl wouldn't do the RRHOF.  Lots of people were ranting about it.

I've always rooted for Duff, Axl and Slash to reunite and refused to call any less GN'R.

Anyhow, moving on.  What once seemed unlikely has happened (reunion) and I'm stoked about it and glad to be able to post again.

    So thank you.

  9. Except most of my posts have been deleted due to mods on this forum not accepting my view on things.  Probably the kind that said it would never happen and to get over it.  The kind that wouldn't stand up for what they believe in and recognising a truly brilliant band when they see one and recognising how ordinary the cover band was. Then there were the ones that said the cover band was better..... Where have they gone?

You ARE consistent Nathan. You've been saying this since we started this forum many many years ago.

    And you're not wrong.

? Thanks Madison.  Yes I have.  I've actually been saying it online since the Message board.  You were part of that also if I remember correctly.

    There's no contest.

    On top of this:

    Izzy started the damn band.

Izzy is the first to get sober, stays on in the hopes the rest of the guys will follow. Gets asked to go on salary (LOL). Now that they've finally gotten clean and sober and are all friends again, once again Izzy is the one who gets totally shafted.

    Izzy is Axl's childhood friend.

Izzy showed up to every single show on time and ready to play.

Izzy has supported every single project any band member has put out, has guested with VR and has guested with Axl's GNR.

Duff gets wasted every day of the UYI tour.

Duff trashes Axl all day long from 2004-2007.

Duff only becomes friends with Axl again 3 years ago.

How in god's name does it make any sense that Duff would make 4x as much as Izzy in a hypothetical full AFD reunion? Because he moves around the stage more? It's a huge disservice that people sit here all day and say "oh it's because he's mysterious" or "oh it's because he'd rather do his own thing". No chance!! This is all about the original 3 not paying him what he deserves.

I'm out, argue with yourself.   Izzy left the band.  Doesn't want to do it.  I'm sure he has his personal reasons, but everything you say you're making up.

So what if the guys drank shit loads and did drugs.  It's called rock n' roll, grandma.  It made it what it was and they always played throughout each gig.  There's no way they were as smashed as people make out...not a chance.  I get drunk and can't walk...they played to millions in stadiums for years.

Can anyone blame Izzy? The guy started the band, left because he begged the other guys to get sober and they wouldn't, was tired of putting up with fines and the other guys showing up late all day long along with being drunk and high while doing it, and somehow at the same time being the childhood friend of Axl and only other sober person in the band being asked to go on salary back in 1991. Now they finally come back sober and reunited, and he gets lowballed and never even considered for a full time spot. In addition to that he openly supported Axl and Guns while Slash/Duff go on the shit-talking press tour of 2004-2007, while simultaneously guesting with Velvet Revolver. He also had the foresight to leave VR instead of sticking around for another 3 years of ridiculously late starts, drug abuse, and on stage ramblings. Meanwhile, people like Duff who never wrote anything and is nowhere close to the level of Slash get to walk in and demand an equal share after having zero contact with Axl for 15 years, and Izzy gets offered a part time 3 songs a night slot for some ridiculously low number. This has absolutely NOTHING to do with Izzy having high demands and everything to do with the three AFD members not wanting to split the pie 4 ways. Esacerbated by the fact that no ChiDem material would be able to be performed if you subbed in Izzy for Fortus.

That's all there is to it!

Where do you get your information?

    Get in the Ring.

    Duff never wrote anything?

    You sir are an idiot.

  13. He messed up the beat again on Estranged tonight.   Very annoying and hard to enjoy when the rest of the band play it so well.   It ain't hard Frank...learn the beat you loser.  Thousands of drummers around the world would kill for your job, you have it, so do it right.

  14. 4 minutes ago, hypird said:

I'm pretty sure he is playing with clicktrack, cause lights and bombs were spot on with his drumming. So they chose to play with that tempo in the rehearsals.

No, they have light techs who hit the lights whenever they want to.  All you need is to be able to follow music and push a button.

I was at the show yesterday. It was EPIC, but I needed to come here and vent. I'm a drummer, give that guy a fucking metronome, play to a fucking clicktrack. It is the easiest thing to setup, oh my god, he butchered one of my favorites: DTJ, so fast, Slash was trying to catchup to him. And Estranged, jeez, I don't know how the rest of the band feels but damn stick to the fucking tempo.

Oh yeah, awesome.  You lucky bastard to be there.

Yeah, tempo is one thing, but the correct beat is imperative.

  16. He couldn't even get the cymbal crashes in You Could Be Mine right.

The beginning of the song obviously has the tom intro then as the main guitar riff comes in each second snare has a crash until the last 2 bars before the warm up bit then his the crash every snare hit (2 half notes).

He played the crashes on the the ones that rest.
