  1. So about 10 years ago I had a pretty decent grasp of most of Buckethead's material, but since the Pike releases began I really fell out of touch with Buckethead's new releases as they became insanely vast in this era. I here and there on youtube get linked to different Pike songs here and there over the years but never really just buckled down and studied everything he has released over the last several years. I still love Bucket just kind of been busy with other stuff and listening to other music at the same time.

So as of late I been really listening to a lot of Power Metal/Symphonic metal type random stuff and been really digging some of the ballad type stuff I been finding. Which got me thinking about Bucket. Surely in all these Pike releases there has got to be some ballad-esque type songs in there that are really epic. Does anyone have any recommendations ? Or maybe people could give a top 5 or top 10 list to Bucket Pike tracks that might fit into this category. The songs don't necessarily need to be "soft" or "slow" just not looking for 8 minute long songs full of only thrashing, I tend to like "big" and "epic" sounding tracks.

So any recommendations would be appreciated to get me back into my Bucket listening.

So Axl wanted to modernize the sound and he was like "Alright we're going to run Appetite, top to bottom. Ready? Go!"

Why do I get a sense that he was just "talking" about modernizing it but he was lazy as fuck to bring in new ideas and solutions?

You just confusing what he said with something different. There area a lot of mythical stories about Axl in the CD era days and playing through AFD as a type of training or initiation better yet.

So Axl enlisted Billy Corgan to help him find Chris? Im a little confused about this part. If I recall correctly Zig Zag said recently that Axl didn't like Corgan.

I was always under the impression that Billy liked Axl from things I heard can't say about that specific time in history. But definitely now Billy likes Axl on a respect level.

  3. Didn't Axl back in the 2006-2007 period buy a painting that was like 1 point some million and there was some debate between him and the seller about not paying enough. Also Axl bought a Enzo Ferrari back in those 2-3 year period that was like 650-700k or so I think. There are lots of business strategies to exploit stuff. I suspect Axl is worth/was worth a lot more than people think. You can look at that house mortgage as meaning something but I don't think it meant much. Remember especially in the dark periods and even till today the Entertainment world would love to exploit Axl and have him do stuff that could of made him money ESPECIALLY back in the 90's early 2000's  remember how desperate MTV wanted him for anything. Seb Bach spoke about this back when him and Axl had that reuniting in 2006. I think he eluded to the fact how different organizations and media wanted anything from Axl because of him historically not giving anything and he could of sold out to make easy big bucks but he never did, and I think part of that is Axl has a lot more money and well off more than we realize.

And for all this solo Axl touring didn't Axl just pay his bang a salary which means Axl was banking a lot better from touring in those days than one would think because it wasn't a traditional band setup distribution wise he was really a solo act right lol.

  4. That $150 million figure has been floating around for 15 years or more, so it's either false to start with or has gone up a ton in the last 2.5 years.

Also I don't see why anyone would believe that figure would be so false ? What reason ? $150mil seems reasonable for Axl. Anyone else I would question, but not Axl.

Also I would guess his mansion is worth a lot more than $6 mil now. Considering the time that has passed and updates to the estate. In my area I have houses worth that much that are a fraction of the size and not in a prime location, nor are they the former home of a famous rockstar.

Also what real proof do we have that Guns was not making money from the illusion tour? that sounds a bit far-fetched to me. I know Axl was certainty not making the tour as earnings "efficient" as he could of but I find it really hard to believe they were not profiting big when it was all said and done.

  5. I think IF we had gotten Chinese Democracy in the full form Axl probably always wanted like maybe a 3 disc massive album with huge variation in song genre's styles and instrumentation. I think that would of been Axl's magnum opus, and I think that was how he felt but yeah somewhere in between all the madness and human error involved ruined that dream. And me personally the whole mythology behind it all and the time period will always be special to me, but that also makes it kind of sad for me seeing how it ended up happening too or lack there of. I was beyond a super fan as far as anticipating what music Axl had in store for us in the "Dark age". This unreleased material still to this day is magical to me although not nearly like it was a decade plus back.

So with that said song wise I always felt SCOM and November Rain are probably his greatest achievements, even people that don't really like GNR enjoy those songs usually in some form even non-rock people, to me they are his most timeless songs so to speak. Album wise it will likely be Appetite for Destruction it's rare a band creates such an amazing album on their first major attempt and one in particular that is great but also had MASSIVE commercial/pop culture/music significance. I mean WTTJ/SCOM/PC  all on the first album think how big those single songs are. And they have 3 of the most recognizable intros too, I always thought that was odd to get all those on 1 album and the first.

Now me personally if I don't take the bias out of it, UYI albums are probably my most personal to me, so I always had a soft spot for them. Just how it played out for me getting into them, and it was the songs on them that got me into GNR and Axl in the first place. Now admittedly the only problem with UYI as many have mentioned over the years is that there was a good chunk of filler songs, many of them I actually like but just don't love or feel they belong on the same album as say November Rain and Estranged. And if they have trimmed them off and just put the best 15 songs on there or whatever then yeah objectively or subjectively that would of been Axl's magnum opus as far as what we got up to the point.

I always felt Better and Street of Dreams/Blues were the 2 best songs from the CD songs we got so far, as far as songs that start to finish are great and meet all the criteria for a solid song. And are songs a lot of anti GNR anti Axl people tend to find some goodness in I noticed. Catcher in the Rye is a close third but I'm a bit biased towards it because of how obsessed i was with that song back in the leak days. I'm not sure where to place CD era songs yet into the GNR/Axl history books, because it still feels like there is unfinished business.

  6. I'm actually pleasantly surprised that so many people seem to mention Prostitute as one of their favorite GNR songs. I thought is was one of the better few songs on the CD album we got, but I always remember feeling the first few years after leaks/CD release feeling GNR forum peeps didnt like it that much. Admittedly I haven't been as active in recent years on the boards so maybe I just missed it growing on people.

I personally preferred the leak version because the added guitar chords over the chorus really drowned out the string sections that I thought were great on their own, that guitar was way to loud in comparison.

  7. Ever since this whole reunion thing happened on one side I was worried we might never hear all this "lost" Chinese Democracy era material but on the other hand it always seemed like a good opportunity to get it out there, albeit maybe updated or altered some. Which quite frankly is what had been happening to this material for years likely before anyway. I mean think about it whats the hardest thing to do really as an established, old, former great artist ? Creating all new material, being creative can be tough at that point. Well if Axl has all this really thought out material whether it be musically, lyrically, or both whey not expedite the album making process by just using that ? Of course I can see different issues with this that I have no idea how much they would be an issue. Like would Duff/Slash be ok with that ? who knows but on paper it sounds good. And I'm not even considering that potential old material Slash/Axl/Duff may have worked on lightly in the lost 1993-1995 years. Post Illusion tour the way I read information thru the years was the real breakup or end of original GNR though it's my understanding for maybe a couple years after there was some light cooperation here and there so maybe there is a song or two of ideas stemming from those couple years ? maybe. One thing is for sure though there are loads of CD era songs they could use, so fingers crossed we here them in some form some day.

On a side note it's crazy to think the 2006 comeback really way 12 years ago now the leaks at the start of the year and later, the Eddie Trunk radio thing, the hammerstein show with mystery new guitarist. The surprise appearance on the 2006 MTV music awards just to say "Do you know where the fu$% you are". Man good times with so much hope for the GNR future.

  8.  All of us here including the Axl super fans which i consider myself one of would all agree Axl's past ..how should i put this.......as it relates to dealing with all kinds of people in say a fair/democracy way is highly in question lol. And that is putting it nicely. The part that really made me face palm myself is when i read in the news Axl used the word "whining"... actually having the audacity to accuse another of that. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. And also wouldn't what these Hamilton actors did actually qualify hugely as "whining" ?

Axl is probably saying this stuff of Trump because of Trumps thoughts he posted on twitter of Axl back in 2012 because he disagreed with Axl not attending the Rock N Roll hall of fame stuff, and I can't disagree with Trumps opinion on the matter. An we all know Axl is known to get overly sensitive to any critiquing of his handling of really anything but especially his handling of NuGNR. And lastly Axl will probably have a problem with anything Trump because he does after all live with a family from Brazil so he feels he needs to defend that.

I love Axl for a lot of reasons, but his input on current events is not one of them. If I had to guess Axl's knowledge on the inter workings of politics/who is really pulling the strings is limited to CNN/MSN/FOX/mainstream social media so Axl like 99.9% of the population in my opinion is not qualified to push opinions/thoughts on others as it relates to this. Because if you totally have a false understanding/kept in the dark of what is really going on how can you possibly have much of a valid opinion? I could go on and on about what exactly I'm talking about here but it's probably best i don't cuz after all this is a GNR forum.

  9. As far as Kirk's comment goes unless he knows something we don't (which i doubt) I feel he is speaking way to early. Because like everything else in life unless you use context data is almost useless. Nothing Kirk said was technically wrong that is until you put it in full context, yes they are only touring so far playing mostly old stuff mixed with a few 2008 CD songs but as of November 2016 that is a big deal and way to early to call them out. You have to consider Axl and Slash have not spoken since 1996 and all the animosity that has built since then for a lot of reasons was crazy. And really Axl and Slash's end could be considered when the UYI tour ended in July 1993 and you could make a case things kind of ended before then albeit they still were finishing the UYI tour so technically still together in that regard. Also let's consider they still might not know what is going to happen with Izz/Adler/Sorrum as far as how they should/could fit into the band if they do record/compose stuff.

I know if I just rekindled a cordial relationship i would not be rushing into the most tense of situations (which recording new music would most definitely be considered). After all a large part of what broke the band up was musical direction/control. So it makes sense to want to just tour for a while to totally rekindle friendship for one but also to feel things out so everyone feels at home or at least more comfortable for when they are all in the composing/recording process which is a totally different beast.

And also let's not forget Axl has been using time/energy else where in fronting AC/DC which kind of messes with fully committing to other areas. So while i would love new music as fast as anyone else it really should not be expected by November 2016 with 30 some live shows played thus far lol.

Now on a separate topic as to what i would like the direction of GNR music to go, I lean way more towards them going more progressive than trying to repeat AFD type stuff. I just find 50 something year old rockers who have been rich and famous for 30 years trying to sing about cheesy childish topics and the whole teenage angst/lets party all night/fuck the world stuff i see as corny at that point. I'm not saying I only want ballads i love a good fast paced rocker as much as the next guy but that is not the only thing i want and the rockers we do get i dont want them to musically sound like a 80's rocker or at least i dont want them to try to force it to much to regress back to a old point just to please those old school fans that want to relive 1988. So if they release a single disc album at most i want 4 songs on it that are "non-progressive" so to speak.

Here is that interview with brain from the original post. At Around 39mins they start talking about buckethead, which is just fucking funny, and from then it goes into guns (56mins)

Near the end of this podcast Brain tells this cool little story about how he knew Axl was very serious about his music.

  11. As I have been saying for years, during the Chinese era Axl worked on a hell lot more songs than the 14 we got so I always felt I can't really evaluate the Chinese era properly till we hear that other Chinese stuff even Axl and dozens of others have mentioned exists over the years. This is just purely the music/artistic side I'm talking about of course. With that said the business side of the CD era was horrible in particular everything post release November 2008.

  12. Noticed a couple pages back people were raging about stuff, my 2 cents about these live shows so far is a very positive take on it. I actually have had even my most positive expectation exceeded as far as the band as a whole. But in particular how well Slash is fitting in so fast and his take on the few CD songs they have done so far I think have all been great and even surpassing the originals like This I love, personally I just love his live solo rendition I think it improves on the album version. But also just how stellar Axl has been for the most part I have been impressed by I was not expecting this, and best of all he seems to be in a good mood.

Obviously like most of us hardcore fans though im interested in seeing where things go from just the initial reunion I guess time will tell

Not even close, even in their heydey they couldnt touch U2 and never will. And thats perfectly okay.

To reach a certain milestone you have to actually do a certain amount of shows, assuming GNR keep this thing rolling and do enough shows they would definitely destroy practically any touring record. Which is made more amazing when you consider the odd circumstances of this band over the last 23 years.

  14. Are they still using the orchestra backing track sections for This I love at all these shows so far ? Like the part during the guitar solo where the drums fully kick in, that was always an intense part of the song to me with that orchestration. Listening to some of the videos it's kind of hard to tell if it's still there, or if the guitar volume mix is just so high it's hard to hear it.
