  1. wow this just keeps getting worse and worse, like i said this 11 year old CD world tour is the worst thing that has happened to nuGNR it seems

nuGNR has done something other than this?

  2. Well good for you. I have more of a hope for the best, expect the worst approach to avoiding disappointment.

Hopefully Axl's people telling the CEO he's coming holds true.

Good for you too. I hope that works out for you. I expect you not to whine about it if it doesn't happen then, because I sure as hell won't.

Every year that has passed since the original band / use your illusion band broke up has been a disappointment. Sure I like Chinese Democracy, it has some catchy tracks and some good musicians but it's not the same band

I would rather have new music from this lineup than anything from any former member. I wouldn't mind one night to bury the past though.

Fair enough but I think you're in the minority. Axl is lucky to have a very loyal group of fans of his current band but it is very small compared to the impact of the original band

Nobody knows what kind of impact this band can make, so this is a very pointless argument based on nothing but opinions and speculation.

Look the current band is a good band, there's no taking that away from you, but the impact they're having IS small compared to the original band. They seem like a nice bunch of guys, I especially like Bumblefoot and Richard and they're all top class musicians without a doubt. But it's got to be hard for them following in the footsteps of what was the largest band in the world, especially when the bulk of the crowd wants the old songs

  3. If Axl's any smart he won't be sharing the same stage with Slash, or the "reunion" talk will become unbearable all over again. Even for Slash it wouldn't be a good thing at all... :shrugs:

They both want it; they're both just too proud or stubborn to publicly admit it for fear of getting stood up by the other. Luckily the HOF thing has come along so neither of them have to reach out personally and the event will bring them back together where they belong!

  4. I'm not saying it's without a doubt going to happen...but so far, there's more evidence suggesting it will than there is that it won't.

I absolutely refuse to believe it will happen until it does. There is no room for disappointment that way.

Agreed, I just can't see Axl showing

Axl is a beaten dog at this point in time. He needs this - he'll be there if he's smart

Duff playing with the band, and the HOF announcement are the first sensation of hope for years in relation to GNR! And it's feeling pretty good right now

  7. Slash is the only piece of the puzzle left. Axl may still express cynicism toward Matt, Izzy and Duff (he hung out with all of them since '06, but also then publicly called their motives into question later - implying Duff purposely got a hotel room next to him, Izzy manipulated his way into the tour for monetary gain, etc.) -- but it seems like overall he's at least cool with being around them. I thought it was fairly touching how he asked for a light to be shone on Duff at the Seattle show after YCBM -- seemed like he was really proud. Classic Axl: he may not always be logical but he goes with his emotions, and you could tell that moment meant a lot to him just based on how happy he was to let Duff be acknowledged.

So I can see this being legit. The only piece of the puzzle left is Slash -- whether Axl will feel comfortable being that close to him is a looming 'maybe.'

I'm sorry, but when did Axl say anything about the Duff situation or the Izzy situation? I know he said something similar about Izzy around 1993, but I haven't heard anything since then. Also, I've never heard anything from Axl about Duff from 2010...and the fact that Loaded opened shows for them seems odd.

Axl didn't imply that Duff purposefully got a room next to him, just that he thought someone had arranged it - could have been staff at the hotel thinking it would be amusing etc

Was this on twitter or in concert or something? I must have missed this. I haven't seen him comment on that at all, and according to Duff's autobiography, it was completely random (although that's only one side of the story).

sure i remember Axl talking about it somewhere?? I could be wrong. Trunk interview???

  9. I'm thinking after Las Vegas. Who else with a big name would you suggest then?

Id rather have somebody who could fit in the band and play the songs than worry about what their name was. :shrugs:

I think Axl's probably a bit over the whole 'Axl and a bunch of unknowns' tag which keeps getting thrown at them in every review

  10. As much as i like coma, i wouldnt want it played again really :shrugs:

uh, all due respect, lol why in the fuck not?

Trynna sing Coma again would probably put axl into a coma lol he almost died when he last sung it.

wasn't it only performed live twice? both times i thought it was amazing. Axl seemed fine. Killed it, even.

Yeah it was amazing how well he pulled it off but even back then towards the end he was what the fuck did i write lol.

After watching the rehearsal footage for Coma I doubt he could pull off that "squawk" again :shrugs:

The one where he's going 'Maybe we'd be better off without you anyway' and then the mic screeches and he gets pissed off lol?

That's the rehearsal for Rock In Rio 1991

  11. They're not going to play an unreleased song in LA.

I'm going to be very bold here and predict that Slash will be a guest for a song or two. Yup. Hometown show, all this speculation about the Rock Hall, lots of positive talk about him recently (DJ getting dinner with him, etc).

There's obviously a good chance that won't happen, but for once, I cannot definitively say that it won't happen.

If not, yeah, Duff or Izzy probably. Maybe another UYI track.

Oh my gosh I'd shit a taco with excitement if that happened

  12. Unfortunately this "logic" you refer to was based on a misinterpretation of my original post. All he did was expand the basics of what I said into something ludicrous and then shoot it down

I find it more unfortunate that you are jumping to conclusions about Ron leaving the band when nothing he has said has implied this. He just needs time to be with his family. With the tour drawing to a close, he will have plenty of that. He obviously enjoys his time with the band so I have no idea how you are jumping to this conclusion.

It wasn't a conclusion, that's why I put a question mark in there

  13. Zakk Wylde seemed very complimentary of Axl and the band after opening for them recently. He also had a bit of a try-out on stage with Whole Lotta Rosie. Do you think if personal/health problems prevent Ron Thal from continuing with the band Zakk might be expecting a call?

    No.

Your keyboard only has three keys and an enter button? Or you just don't like sharing your reasons?

    A. Zakk Wylde's band opened several shows for GNR. He has known Axl for many years. It seemed fairly obvious to invite Zakk onstage to jam. He performed a cover of an AC/DC song with the band.

    B. Despite Bumblefoot having the same issues he had three months ago, the band suddenly decided to hire a replacement guitarist with only 6 shows left in the current leg of a three-month long tour. He "auditioned" to replace Bumble to playing a song with the band that is not even a GNR track, and that is not even played at every show. This performance was actually a "secret message" to let the fans know what is going on.

Which one do you think is the more plausible scenario?

    .

How dare you use logic in these forums. Shame on you Sir.

    .

I think you've misunderstood my original post - I don't think there has been any kind of audition or that Ron Thal will not finish the tour. I'm thinking the possibility that Ron may choose to hand in his notice once the tour is over - he sees it as his responsibility to see it through and be a good band mate, but we know that he is starting to sound over it all. But based on Zakk Wylde's compliments of the band recently and his enthusiasm at performing with them I wonder if he may offer himself as available if the band were to need a new lead guitarist

  15. o

    What is this? 1995?

The reason Zakk was unsuitable in 1995 was because the band needed a rhythm player and not another lead player to compete with Slash. It's quite a different scenario now

Slash didn't want to be upstaged.

Anyway Zakk can't play like Bucket and BBF....not his style.

But nor should he have been upstaged - Slash has always been a lead player and another lead player was brought to the party. Why Axl thought putting them together would work I'll never know? Everyone that's ever been in a band has been in one awful band where there's two guitarists that both just solo over the top of each other all the time. It just never works

How would you feel in your job if you were told there's a new guy starting on Monday, you have to share all your responsibilities with him

Zakk would be filling a different position if he were to join the band now

  16. If Ron really had to take a bit of time out but the band still had a string of shows to play then I don't see how Zakk wouldn't be able to fill in for that time. Obviously he might have his own commitments that would prevent it but I'd say that he could learn the stuff that Ron plays. Obviously he has a completely different style to Ron technique wise but I'm sure he could adapt to fit the material.

Thank you for a thought out response. They are very different players but Axl clearly likes his playing because he has tried Zakk out in the past
