  1. Yeah, to be clear, I am not bothered by having women in the game, the problem that EA self created was presenting it as a historical shooter, something they have done in the past.  Going on that premise, there was seemingly easily foreseen pushback over the trailer having a girl with a cyber arm leading the English charge against the Germans, flanked by another girl wielding a katana.

I'm really on the fence with this stuff, because first and foremost it is only a game... at the same time, it should be presented as such, and not as a historical shooter.  If Saving Private Ryan has cyborg women wielding swords, it would have been a pretty neat action movie, but if it was sold as a history piece, it would be an abomination.

  2. I had no idea about the story behind this game.  It's pretty lol.  People shat on the trailer when it showed the cyborg red haired girl fighting the Germans (not Nazis, we don't use that word anymore in games) because it wasn't really WW2.

EA responded by calling people stupid, saying they didn't understand EA's inclusivity and said "If you don't like it, don't buy it."  So they didn't.  Sales are down 68% and it's already 40 to 50% off at major retailers like Best Buy and Target.

On thing EA did that I REALLY think is bogus and shitty is pictured in the thumbnail for the video I linked to.  It was this huge graphic with "hateful" comments people made about the game on social media.  On the left side (not pictured) it says "White Men White Men White Men"  The implication being it was some kind of racist, misogynistic hate speech.  I learned from reading up on it that it was actually a reference to EA "profanity filter" White Men was censored in beta.

I don't see why not. On Illusion Duff had his vocal songs (''So Fine'' and to a lesser extent ''Get in the Ring''). Slash's leads are simply glorious on it. I can perfectly envision ''Hope'' as the Duff vocal song among a 10-12 song GN'R album.

It's definitely a really good song, I just don't hear it and think "GnR" like I did with like half of the first Snakepit album.  I'm not saying anything negative about the song, just that it doesn't have a GnR sound to me.

I actually think a live album is even less likely than a new studio album at this stage. Surely Axl wouldn't have the gall to officially release a fully mixed and mastered soundboard quality recording of his live vocals from the last 2 years? That's a surefire way to make sure everyone outside of the hardcore fanbase knows that his live voice is shot.

I hope you are right, I don't need another live album, but what would make you think he wouldn't just redo the vocals like he did with Live Era?  Axl isn't afraid to "fix it in post."

Shotgun from 200 yards? That's not hacking, that's Battlefield.  To be fair, modern shotguns do have ridiculously effective firing ranges (like 100 meters), but in a video game it's just too OP. Not too familiar with WWII shotguns, but I can't imagine they should be that accurate at range.

I'm surprised hacking is an issue though. DICE generally has that under wraps for the last few releases, maybe you're experiencing buggy netcode? Which DICE has been miserable at the last releases I played (BF3/4). Either way, that is frustrating.

Of all the things you mentioned in your post, the thing that bothers me the most (and puts me off the game) is the TTK. I hate unloading 15+ rounds into someone's center mass/limbs and then getting killed immediately by 1 or 2 shots because they got lucky and hit my neck/head with their random burst. Whether it's hacking, buggy netcode, or just long TTK, it really breaks the experience for me. This is why I only played BF3/4 hardcore, and have since moved to semi-realistic shooters like Rising Storm and WW3.

There is definite hacking going on, not sure how common it is.  Lots of hacks for sale, lots of demos of said hacks working in game.  It might be less than COD on PC, but it's there.  That is just a part of PC gaming though.  There are ALWAYS going to be hacks.

PS. Nazis are completely removed from the game, FYI.  It's like they weren't involved in WW2.    I'm on the side of leaving it in there, but wtf do I know?

  6. So, I started playing this recently on the PC.  It's actually kind of fun, but there are definitely a lot of people cheating, and that really shits up the game, a lot.  It can be super fun to make your way through rubble, crawling to a good vantage point with your sniper rifle.  Unfortunately, every 3rd lobby or so will have someone on the opposing team that can see you at all times, and will headshot you from across the map.   I've also been killed by a shotgun from 200 yards away.  Also common is unloading a full clip point blank on someone, who not only survives, but headshots you.

I've heard mixed reviews. If you didn't like the gameplay mechanics of BF1, then BFV might be up your alley. The problem with BFV is that EA ran a poor marketing campaign and pissed off long time fans of the series. DICE is working hard to get them back, even toned down the custimization options. I am pleased to see the soldiers male or female, actually look more authentic. The look of the game still bothers me. I was enthralled by BF1's visuals and epic gameplay. BFV looks a bit cartoonish.

You would really dislike BFV, among the things the SP campaign has taught me about history, is that an 18 year old Norwegian girl and her mother prevented the Nazis from developing nukes, single handedly.

Interesting side note with the women avatars, I don't mind the game having them, but I find the death and wounded screams of the female characters very disconcerting.  I guess I'm not used to it?  The last time I found something disconcerting in a game like this was COD Ghosts, when dogs were killed (and they were a common ability in that game) they used what sounded to me like the actual sound a dog makes when shot or wounded.  Sadly, it's something I've heard in my life, and it was very accurate.

Haha, well I'm glad you survived! Over a decade ago I lost control of my Ford Ranger on an icy highway while listening to a leak of The Blues. For a while after, that part of the song where it happened freaked me out a bit. I ended up in the grassy valley between both directional lanes. I remember the power cut off completely, then resumed when the Ranger stopped sliding.

On the subject of the Chinese Democracy store display, I recall my local Best Buy having one.  What great memories! Would be awesome to have that display.

That's pretty crazy because that is almost exactly how mine went down.  It had snowed like 3 days earlier, but the roads were dry, then out of nowhere, it was a massive patch of ice covering both lanes.  I slid as far as I did without hitting anything because it was an extremely wide grassy divide between lanes.

We need a PSA on not listening to this album in inclement weather, in a Ford.

IF we get a new album, using 20 year old vocal recordings would be a fucking joke.

I have long wondered what we would fight over if GnR released a new album.  I was thinking it would be "it's good vs. it's bad"  But I wasn't sure what we would battle over if the album was just flat out amazing.  Now I know.

Calling it now, 10k plus threads on when the vocals are from.

  9. Think I shared this story on here before, but I used to make a frequent joke whenever anyone would say "You're going to kill yourself doing _____" I would tell them that I wouldn't die until I heard the new Guns N Roses album...

I had heard leaks and such, but on a long drive home, listening to the actual CD for the first time, on This I love, I lost control of my Mustang doing 70+, spun around several times, slid about 150 yards or so, and came to a stop a few feet from the guardrail.  No damage to the car, no injuries.  I didn't think of it in the moment, it was some time after, I was like "Oh fuuuuuuck."  So I don't say shit like that anymore.

Chinese Democracy, the album that almost killed me.

  10. I don't.  I sometimes ponder if I know exactly how it feels.  I too had a Girl I fell for in my early years and while I have dated since, I never married and always pine about her.  Unlike Axl, I got to hook up with her for 6 months 20 years later.  It felt like I closed a long open chapter, but now I'm old, and not prowling around for a mate, and I never wanted kids, so I'm very at peace with it.

+ Axl is one distrustful person in general.  It's probably impossible for him to feel secure in a girl liking him versus being a gold digger.

if the vault has stuff like rumored amazing songs like Thyme, etc, I wonder why some of these serviceable but nothing amazing songs ended up on the album over some real gold from the ChiDem era instead.

I don't think Axl was ever planning on it being one album and done, it makes more sense to hold on to amazing songs when the plan was to follow the album up with another one in the next couple of years.

  12. I almost made this thread, but I backed off because 75% of the time you say "Happy Thanksgiving" to an audience that contains people who don't have it in their country, they reply with some sort of comment that implies you are an asshole for saying it.

So obviously, everyone here was all nice about it, because reasons.
