  1. picture these two scenarios:

    ONE.

you've been a gnr fan for as long as you can remember...you have all the records, collected more bootlegs than anyone else, own more merchandise than any other fan...but you've never been to a concert....

then you hear that they're coming to a venue near you...and you freak out...you can't believe it...you queue for tickets, stand all day just so you can get a place near the front, all of your favorite gnr songs are going through your head, you're imagining what the outro to NR sounds like live, what the SCOM solos are like, does he really use the wow wow pedal or not....a billion questions....then...the show ends....they play none of those songs...instead you got Garden of Eden and Don't Damn me...

    would you be disappointed?

    TWO.

You're a casual fan of GNR, you were into them in the early nineties, when power ballads were big, and you own a few albums...you got the GH to remind yourself, but you don't lose sleep over them, and you definitelly cannot name all the new members, you actually have no clue what the band is doing nowdays...

then you hear that they're playing in a venue near you....and you get all sentimental....start remembering all the songs you used to like...and what they remind you of....you stand all day in a queue...get a good seat...and then they play some songs you don't really know....you think its the new stuff, but you're not too interested in that...you want the classics....the ones which made you like them...so you can sing along...

    would you be disappointed?

    Does this answer your question?

I don't think Axl hates any of his work....he may not be entirely happy with the way some songs turned out, but he definitelly doesn't hate it....not after it made him millions and millions of dollars....

gnr in 2006 is a much more commercially oriented machine, and it sunusual for us to see, as it was never like this with them.

the musical landscape has changed, and a different approach is required.

he is just re-establishing himself, until the time comes to unleash the new beast he's been working on.

  2. if that story is true....you're a bit of a twat....not only were you refusing THAT piece of ass when she clearly wanted some....but you also refused to go see Axl Rose...shame...

if the story is fake....you're a twat for wasting everyone's time here.

  3. It's pretty funny how people waited all that time just for that ! where It took up about 30 seconds of my time.

What's even more funny is the people who watched the show and was disappointed. If it's announced that Axl will present an award/band, it's a good idea to assume that it is exactly what he's going to do and not believe all the rumours about a performance by Gnr joined by Buckethead(!) etc etc....

exactly. its people's own fault they were disappointed ;)

I agree with you both. It´s people´s fault if they imagine things and speculate and believe all the rumours out there.I just expected Axl as a presenter and that´s what happened,so no disappointment at all. ;)

i agree with all three of you, i just thought it was bad ass that he showed up, went on national tv, and assured us that the album will come out this year. it was honestly more than what i could have asked for.

and i agree with all four of you on everything you said.

    Merck

Say what you will, but at least Doug Goldstein or Alan Niven got Axl to make music.

you do have a point there.

bottom line is...no one knows wtf is the relationship between the two of them...and what Merck's role is in the greater scheme of things....he could be just a fucking assistant for all we know...or he could be a vital component to the band's success.

let's wait and see...if '07 comes round without any answers and revelations.....i'll be disappointed to say the least.

  4. guys, hackers only go for sites hosted on unsecure servers....those turkish guys who have been hacking the web recently were not after gnr...but rather a whole group of sites on a few select servers...and those forums happened to be on there...

the gnr official site, and htgth are on sanctuary servers....and they have the best security money can buy...so no, don't expect them to be hacked any time soon.

eric also hosts this forum on good hardware, that's why we're pretty safe here.

oh, by the way did anyone notice the merch store selling bucket t-shirts on there?

    clicky

  5. without wanting to sound like an ignorant ass...could someone give me a brief summary of the pre-sale idea?

so there's a "secret" site the management sends to a chosen few go to?

and they reccomend other members who they think are worthy of getting this information?

    then what?

they (we) get the tickets first?

are they normal tickets, and this is only being done to beat the rush...or are they special in some way or another?

what's the difference between this "presale" ticket and the one you can get from an official ticket vendor?

not that it matters to me, I live too far away to benefit from this, but would like to know how it works for you guys.

    thanks in advance.

  6. having Axl Rose as a presenter is a rare occasion, and is not something the producers of the show will throw away just like that...so I doubt they will use him for crappy categories....instead I see him presenting an award for "lifetime achievement" or "best rock album" or something like that...not hip hop...or pop...or anything currently considered as mainstream...they can get anyone to do that...and cracking a line of sorts like..."it takes a long time to make a good album...i should know"....or little hints like that every now and again....

  7. Well the solos actually have me even more excited to hear the album. Replace guys like Slash and Izzy and I'm just glad the band didn't completely go to shit guitar wise, cuz it could have. Let's be thankful for that.

    Amen...thank you for saying it.

Robin and Bucket are damn fine writers. All the solos work, at least for me they do. TWAT and Better's solos are as good as old GN'R IMO, The Blues is right up there too.

Yes, they can sure write, and I can't wait to hear the songs which they've been hiding from us.

Live is where I see the problem. People might disagree with me, thinking the live shows stack up. They are cool, don't get me wrong. I thought Robin was kicking ass. It's just that the more boots I see, the more it's sticking in my craw that Robin messes up the old solos. It's hard to get past. He's a bit goofy on stage as well. Cool? I don't really think so.

I used to think so as well, and then I saw them in Europe, and now I think otherwise. That band is so well rehearsed its beginning to look clinical...its almost scary how well they play those songs, Mr. Brownstone with Robin on it is by far my most favorite version of the song....of course, someone said that its easy to perfect something which already exists, so I will wait for new material before I judge him further....but I also think that the impression we sometime get of him being sloppy is because of one of the following:

    - he's been in gnr for fucking ever, and perhaps is bored playing other people's songs.

    - maybe he can't wait to play his own work.

    - watch him during better, and then watch him during sweet child....and then compare the body language between the two.

I think we're all judging him a bit too soon.

In fact, the more of these they play, and just leave the old ones in the past, the better.

Agreed....throw the old ones in every now and again for the sake of old school fans...but let's get the new gnr era going....its about fucking time.

  8. remember when the european tour came about?

the dates were coming in drbs and drabs....same is happening here...there's nothing to worry about...axl said there will be a US tour, and the word TOUR being the focus here....so they'll play.

  9. I agree with this completely, I don't care who is in the band.

    I care. Its very important.

I love GNR because of their music. I think thats why I prefer the New GNR to the original. The New Guns and a new era of music something thats never been done before. But they keep the classic GNR feel and use both elements to create absolutely incredible shows and songs.

There I agree with you. Mr. Brownstone with Finck on it is by far my most favorite version of that song. Of course, I only know it in a live environment.

Buckethead or Bumblefoot as long as they can play who cares?

That's where I disagree. GNR has always been looked at and considered as a modern day "pinnacle" of what a rock band should be. There aren't many bands out there who get people coming to their shows just to watch the lead guitar...and gnr had that...so it is important who gets that glorified seat...and a below par member is not good for us...not to say that bbf is below par...but i preferred bucket.

sure they are not as good as Slash but they can put on a much better show.

There I don't agree at all...that's nonsense...bucket and slash shouldn't be compared at all as they belong to different music worlds when it comes to lead guitar....better show? doubt it...it was a magical experience watching slash play live...i don't get the same feeling with bbf.

Izzy, Gilby, Richard who cares? they are all great guiarists.

I care...Izzy is the reason we have those songs that the starter of this thread talks about, and izzy's departure was the beginning of the end for gnr in the 90's...he's a massively important figure in this band's history...Gilby was just a replacement, he didn't really show off his prowess in writing for gnr and Richard is a session (although very good) musician...until we get to see his work, I'll reserve judgement.

I hate the way people are so judgemental of GNR and will never except how great this new reicarnation. Embrace it or shut-up!

People are a bit overly-critical, I have to agree...the new line up does put on a good show, and they perform well...but like I said...its easy being a cover band....let's see some of their work which was meant for us...and then we must share opinions on their abilities to perform.

  10. While some think Axl isn't playing material off the new album, those people are dead wrong. This stuff is "the big guns" and I think deep down inside people know that when Chinese D is released, 6 or 7 of the 12-13 tracks will have been heard before.

Speculation...not fact...please state that its just your opinion, and that its not based on anything other than hearsay.

    2. 4 Years of nothing...So much time has passed and it's been such an exhausting wait with almost 2 of those years with no news what-so-ever.

that did suck...but he's back now, and it does make up for it.

...the loss of Bucket really hurt this band and destroyed a lot of the excitement I had in it. Axl's #1 choice for a replacement for Slash was Bucket. While Ron is great, he's just not interesting to look at, nor does he have that Bad-ass/Strange element that Slash had, and Bucket had too (obviously Bucket was heavy on the strange, but it worked).

    absolutely right...couldn't agree more.

The whole thing now looks like Axl's traveling Kareoke act, and anyone can jump on stage and be a part of it, if that pleases Axl.

Again, just speculation...we have no idea what the big plan is, and what the strategy behind Izzy being there is all about...perhaps he just wanted to bring an old friend along....there's nothing wrong with that.

Remember when it was cool to be in GNR and when you said that to peopel you never had to defend why...but now, it's a joke amongst the masses to be into GNR..

    no its not...
