Locomotive is the forgotten masterpiece. Coma is a gem but got more attention. Breakdown is also underrated. Between Estranged, NR, Coma and Locomotive you have 4 epics in a (joint) release. Not bad.

this forum is utter comedy. great source of GNR news. but the idiots here disappointed by Green Day calling for irrelvant hard rock acts to induct the gunners? please. i enjoy Buckcherry etc but green day is a brillant choice. younger multi-platinum act influenced by GNR. Oasis could have made sense but haven't seen a single other option that would have fit. both have likely more unregistered sales than a buckcherry has in totality. going the other direction w Aerosmith etc who influenced but weren't influenced by wouldnt have been nearly as fitting. but at least you have a big name then.

with all today's technology and on-demand access, one truth remains the same: nothing replicates the live concert experience. i can watch video of the rawness of the late 80s club shows but it's pale representation of being there...and i would kill to have been.

my first live show when the band opened the illusion stadium tour in alpine valley wisconsin in 1991 can never be replicated for me. but all that doesnt make any of the shows I have seen since (8) less special. ...especially the hammerstein ballroom NYC gigs .

honestly, comparison is fun but the bottom line is current line-up is still a better live show than pretty much anything else out there today. and I would frankly say the same about the Stones. age defying and still kicking ass ... of course w/ benefit of near original line-up

(funny how Pearl Jam fans constantly talk about Vedder's dives ...and he obviously took it to another level with some of the high ones where he climbed to rafters...but Axl was doing it first. and into MUCH more aggressive crowds than PJ)

If you want a single discrete performance just the clip above - even though it is not w GNR backing him and its not his own material its Axl at his peak in front of over 100K fans.

Otherwise, anything from 88 show at the Ritz which was pro shot. Its So Easy or Brownstone are good options as is Paradise City where Axl stagedives

Queens of the Stone Age rock the house? the Kings of Leon frontman got it right last year when he called Reading the coldest crowd he has scene. Pussy posers and Axl's mistake for gracing the festival with an appearance

First off, apologies if there is a similar topic about this in this section right now, the server is falling apart at the seams and I can't really read anything, or check if there are other topics on this.

Let me summarise:

GNR have gone onstage about an hour/an hour and a half late at Reading. One of the most respected, loved festivals in the world, EVER. Axl Rose is not, has never been, and will never be bigger than Reading, Leeds, or indeed Glastonbury, V, T, Coachella, or any music festival, anywhere. The biggest acts in the world couldn't demand something as ridiculous as turning up way later than advertised. The Rolling Stones, U2, even if the Beatles got back together (and out of their coffins), they couldn't make such a demand. It serves Axl right that the crowd are booing every song, which is only right. That crowd have stood there all day, in the rain and mud, and it's now VERY fucking cold, and they're being made to wait, for what? An ego. An overblown, inflated ego. Guns N Roses haven't been relevant for years (No, Chinese Democracy is not relevant in today's world, for those of you furiously defending the album. I love it, but popular, it is now.) This was Axl's ONE chance to show the world that actually, he can lead and orchestrate a succesful new incarnation of this band. If he'd shown up ontime, he could've blown the fucking roof off the joint. But no, because he thinks he's King, he can do as he please.

As for all you idiots stating 'Pfft, all the fucking indie kids at Reading obviously don't know a good show when they see one'. Reading is a ROCK festival. And the fact that Lostprophets, Biffy Clyro, QOTSA and more, can show up, rock the whole festival, and SHOW UP ON TIME, just makes GNR seem even more of a ball ache. The crowd know a good show when they see one, and they know that GNR aren't one.

Seriously, I've grown the accept GNR's shortcomings, but this takes the fucking piss. And before you all retort with 'Don't let the door hit you on the way out' or 'If you don't like it, fuck off', this is a FAN FORUM, and the DISCUSSION section of that forum. I'm allowed to have my opinion, of which many of you I'm sure will agree with. If all we're allowed to do is praise and arselick that band/singer, then it isn't a forum, it's a mockery. I'm raising my very valid thoughts, and my fucking frustration with a band who have no respect for their fanbase. I rarely post in this section, my main haunts are the AG sections, so it's not like I'm losing out by not posting in here anyway.

But I am done with this band. I won't buy future albums/gig tickets, and I simply don't care. I'm tired, and overall, dissapointed. What a fucking piss take of a band!

look at the attention rolling stone, mtv, most other music rags and papers like new york times have given CD already. no question some people have no clue what the current GNR form is ... but that number is a lot less than it was in 2002 and there is much more awareness than most bands could ever expect with over a 10 year hiatus. when the news of the official album drop dates hits there will be a big splash

for better or worse, i am not sure there has been an album in the last 10 or 20 years with so much pre-release buzz as chinese democracy. as soon as the official release comes there will be tremendous mass-media attention. to say that conventional promotional efforts should be employed does not recognize the fact that this album is a totally unique animal. there is no way interscope is going to invest $12M into a CD and not promote the living crap out it ... but not until the initial splash is made. this thing will require far less marketing lead time than a regular major band album release.

i do agree, however, that some of these sanctuary releases are laughable and it makes me sad to see "GNR own New York" or "GNR Knock Out Sweden" ... it's amateur hour and not worthy of the band.

In the end, it will all matter little ... hopefully the cd can stand or fall on its own merit. no question a lot of people want to see and perpetuate a failure but the media also loves a great comeback story.
