you assholes forgot brodie dalle/distillers.
What is wrong with me?!
Young Crazed Peeling - The Distillers
Brody = , so fucking hot.
Amen.
By far the female vocalist with the sexiest voice.
-
I think Winehouse's music is original.
The lyrics as well as the music itself is refreshing and despite the substance abuse problems or any personal crisis she is undergoing- her music is enjoyeable and hardly a "sad parody of herself" (whatever that means).
Yes, there is no denying the fact that they have "recycled" older musical styles- but I feel that the direction with the borrowing of retro styles is fantastic, and should be encouraged- not the opposite.

Ooh this is gonna be hardcore, I can't wait.

It's in Romanian.

Brody Dalle is my she-crush-
I am madly in love with her.
With a voice like that.. It's so rough and raw..

Reggae is definitely a feelgood for me.

I still buy CD's but none of my friends do whatsoever and call me "old fashioned" for doing so-
I find it quite alarming but when I do beg to differ they say CD's are less practical and are a "rip-off".
I just never got into the whole downloading thing, I buy all my CD's and feel kind of pressured into downloading sometimes as CD's are a notion of ridicule and are just seen as not practical whatsoever.
It's not the aspect of honesty that gets me buying CD's, it's just, I've been doing it all my life, I enjoy the album art, just, the whole concept of a CD is something I can't throw away because it's more "practical" to download.
Sadly, I don't see a bright future in the world of CD's, especially considering the portrayal of CD's in modern day society at least amongst the youth.

Fantastic trip hop band that I just can't get enough of lately.
I love the diversity of each and everyone of their pieces and their incorporation of different genres.
Any Massive Attack fans on here?

For sure!
Those are some classic Hip Hop bands not to be meddled with- let's not forget Cypress Hill or Public Enemy.
-
Just came across this thread and thought it was great- I'm recently into alot of Hip Hop and especially into Lupe Fiasco.
I used to be pretty closed minded about this genre but nowadays I'm really loving it.
-
I thought that was very insightful and informative- and I like how you incorporated elements of humour into the piece; overall a great read DSG!

Cold showers are heavenly.

Fantastic band- influenced many other fantastic bands as well.

Arizona Junior Year - Today(grew to simply love music, in all its forms, and to love hearing it at anytime)
- All from Freshman - Sophomore Year (especially Guns & Roses and Motley Crue)
- Funk Metal (Faith No More, Living Colour)
- Mike Patton (I label him as a separate genre dut to all his unique bands) (Peeping Tom, Mr. Bungle, Tomahawk, Fantomas, Kaada/Patton, etc...)
- Avant-Garde (Buckethead, Praxis, Primus, Col. Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains, Col. Claypool's Flying Frog Brigade)
- Grindcore (Blood for Shallow Water (friends old band), Efrem Schulz (performs Botnus with Buckethead)
- 90's Alternative/Grunge (Blind Melon, (The) Smashing Pumpkins, Oasis, Nirvana)
- Beatboxing (Rahzel, Buttercup)
- Ska (Reel Big Fish)
- Punk (Ramones)
- Thrash (Anthrax)
- Power Metal (Sonata Arctica, Edguy, Avantasia, Visions of Atlantis, Nightwish)
- Modern Metal (Lordi, In This Moment)
- Classical (Beethoven, Mozart)
That's a great fucking list of genres [and subgenres] right there-
This kind of reminds me alot of how I am now, and the Classical music is also something I've always loved to either listen to or analyze- but I guess I never really had a Classical Music "phase" when it's all that fascinated me- I guess maybe once in a while I don't mind playing some Bach, Bizzet or Strauss- but I still find it awesome that you had that phase.
-
Thinking back at alot of the phases I underwent to get to where I am now musically, I'm both suprised and relieved at the choices that I made in terms of genres, etc. While alot of my phases were pretty in sync with my lifestyle, I feel they've helped me become MUCH more open minded when it comes to genres.
Topic is clear, what music phases did you go through? How did your lifestyle affect the "genre" of that period? Discuss!
I think my music taste went a little like this- of course, I maintained the same favorites whilst I underwent these changes in my life, but I started becoming more open minded..! I feel that without these phases [that were relative to my life occurences], I wouldn't enjoy music at the same level I do nowadays.
Alright so here it goes, starting from when I was about 12 when I truly started to understand music up to now when I'm still trying to experiment with the flexibility of music!
- The whole "mainstream rock" phase
- Metal
- Darker metal and thrash
- Classic Rock
- Blues
- Punk
- Ska/Punk/Reggae
- Reggae/ psychedelic trance
- Trance/ Metal
- Old School rap and Reggae
- Jazz
- Reggae, funk and alternative
If you can't be bothered to list them, then discuss how your change in genres, or even in bands- if any- have affected your life.

Rage against the machine is amazing!
Bulls on Parade has got to be my ultimate "pumping up" song.
Great band!

Guys, this still doesn't mean anything; HMV have been wrong about those other release dates, I'd say NOT giving us one beats giving us a ridiculously off one.
Until we get anything from Axl himself, we still don't have shit.
Edit: I think you should edit your title- "No current 2008 HMV Release for CD"; I'm just saying, none of us are at any position to jump to conclusions and that title does seem somewhat deceiving.
There's a difference.
HMV have apparently been told directly from the record company that it isn't coming out this year, this time. All the other times, they were wrong about other release dates because the record company didn't inform them, so HMV just bullshitted it.
Are you sure?
Can they actually just bullshit any date out of their asses?
Because I thought there was actually some sort of [obviously wrong] confirmation to those dates- if not from the record company, then from any other source other than HMV. Also, HMV's dates were rather relative to some other rumoured dates, so I doubt it was solely their judgement on the dates.

Aww, well- how were you supposed to know?
I mean, if you actually saw a future with them, I'm sure you would've stuck around,
Of course, them getting that live TV audition makes you regret it ALOT- leaving so soon, but you would've left sooner or later if you were really feeling that it wasn't working- would've been a great fucking experience but I guess all you can do now is wish them the best, and get on with your life!
Assasin's Creed- I somewhat agree with you, but sometimes lack of motivation overcomes commitment and you just don't see the use, then a shiny TV audition comes along, and you do get start seeing the point in things and that's when that extra motivation comes along. Some people get luckier than others but some people just don't see the point until they start tasting a little bit of success- or whatever success means to anyone.
