  1. People don't like evolution when that means the band is no longer recognized by it's iconic duo: Axl & Slash.

People don't like evolution when they no longer can relate to the music/lyrics.

People don't like evolution when it's no longer mainstream.

People don't like evolution when there's no more (mainstream) hits.

    Simple.

  2. Only problem with 2010 voice is that he lost a bit of mid-range tone and can't sing clean (without rasp) any longer on higher pitch songs, like SOD.

And Axl's prime voice was certainly pre-90's - nothing comes close to this. So much power, soul & control it's overwhelming.

  3. Axl's 2010 voice has less range than before, because he can mainly sing with a "normal" non-raspy voice or just full of rasp, no clean high-notes singing like he could for instance in 2006. His raspy voice from the 90's, especially 93 sounded awful to me - pretty much of the time like a screeching cat.

His current raspy voice is very much different from anything from the past, it's kinda of an evolution. Vintage voice. :shades:

  4. The band died after the other 4 original left. If axl would just let it go and change the name, stop touring on AFD songs and living off the old band's legacy it would seriously be the best band around today. I think all the people involved are extremely professional and talented individuals fully capable of creating a name for themselves. I really think Axl keeping the GNR brand name is not only a slap in the face to the old band but it also serves as a disservice to the current lineup. Axl is one most well known and respected (talent wise) frontmen of all time. The band would still have huge publicity and could make it big on its own.

ChiDem+ ChiDem II + a few gnr covers = pure win.

    Yep!

  5. There were several great shows and some brilliant performances of some songs, but only a blind person wouldn't agree that as a hole the O2 shows were just in a league of their own due to several factors: Axl's voice tip-top form and great spirits, sell-out crowd and on one of the shows a magical Duff appearance.

What more could you ask for really?

  6. is Izzy up for the reunion? Never hear much from him.

Here is what he had to say about it back in 2001

A hypothetical question then: Axl's [solo] album flops, and he offers you all the chance to get back together - just like Aerosmith and Sabbath - would you do it? I mean, assuming Axl would be... "broke?" he cuts in, laughing. "I could hear the call." Goes into gruff Axl impersonation: "'You know, I've been, ah, thinking'. He talks really slow when he gets an idea like that. 'Aahhh, I've been thinking...' And I'd be thinking, 'He must be broke'," he chuckles. "That's how I imagine the call would go."

He said the band still get hopeful promoters trying to tempt them back together with promises of enourmous wedge. "Oh, yeah. Around the big millenium hype, for sure." Is he ever tempted? "Yeah, why not?" he chuckles, "A [one-off] gig would be easy, I'd think."

What about an album, though? Now he really does laugh.

"Well, you know what? It's funny cos like me, Duff and Slash - we could go in and make a Guns N' Roses record in a week. basic tracks. [but] vocals and leads [instrumentation] could take God knows how long..."

    Complete interview

Yeh man that was almost 10 years ago now. I mean I dont know about you but my mind would have forgot I'd even said that by now. and who knows maybe he took up gambling or taking drugs or maybe he's dreaming of being a telemarketer. Who knows?

    Gotta love Izzy! Great interview.

Great post, but in the end of the day Axl has a lot to loose with a reunion and not much to gain, besides loads of cash...

Why would Axl throw away the confartable situation he's in with hired hands? Would old band members agree to reunite being just hired hands to Axl? Would Axl get along the former band members this time? Would there be the hey day "magic" on stage once again? Would they be able to write new songs together and agree with the musical style Axl is into these days? Would they play CD songs? If so would Axl agree to play VR songs?

If things got messy once again would Axl be able to get back to hired hands and the public would just forget the failed experience?

There are a lot of ifs and if I were Axl no way I would risk a reunion - there's just too much to loose...
