  1. Green Day because people of all ages like them.

U2 is mostly liked by people over 15.

    Same with Metallica.

RHCP is mostly liked by people under 15.

 Dude people over 15 make up the majority of the people buying albums. I don't think too many 8 year olds are dishing out cash for albums.

Metallica and RHCP are fucking huge but they don't compare to the world wide appeal of U2. I still don't understand how Green Day is involved in this poll. Might as well through Good Charlotte in and Blink 182 as well. That's not a diss on those bands but c'mon. Green day with the Chillie Peppers, metallica and U2. Somthing doesn't add up.

  2. I have the album. I met him when he opened for the Tea Party. He's a really cool guy, he wore a VR shirt at the show here. And even HE agrees that Contraband is an awesome album...

Cool. What'ya thin of his album? I think it's o.k. I like it more than Contraband but VR shows they have more potential definately. You can hear it in the music even if it's not fully realised. Go Time! is a bit cliched as a pop rock album but it's less boring than Contraband in my opinion.

  3. U2

    Guns N' Roses

    The Cure

    David Usher

    Moist

    Rolling Stones

    Radiohead

    Oasis

    Pearl Jam

    Soul Asylum

    new bands I like:

    The Killers

    The Music

The Pixies(not new but new to me)

    Kasabian

    Razorlight

  4. Hey everyone. I had to pop on today to recomend a band/solo artist for ya all. I bought it today and figured there might be alot of people here who would really like it. It's Todd Kerns solo album titled Go Time!. If I'm not mistaken wasn't Todd Kerns once rumored to be one of the guys in the running for VR's singer? Anyways the album is pretty basic straight up rock n' roll and I figured it'd be worth it for you guys to check out. Todd Kerns used to be the singer in a Canadian band called Age of Electric. On a side note I think it's much better than Contraband though it lacks the guitars solos of Slash. It's a good album though. You could definatley play it at a party and if you like Contraband I'm pretty sure you'll like this. Though it doesn't necessarily work the other way around  Cheers!

    Go Time! - Todd Kerns

  5. I only have a few seconds so I'll try and make this good:

The new album admitedly is not the rock album we were all lead to belive it was going to be. An album however doesn't need to be rockin' to be rockin' if ya know what I mean. The album is full of emotion. Yes at times it gets bloated in songs like Original of the Species and City of Blinding Lights but face it, when have U2 not been bloated  When it comes to u2 bloated means built for stadiums ;) . Sure the lyrics at times sound silly but if you know what the songs are about they make perfect sense. Yahweh is basically a prayer and despite what NBKNAS says about it, Bono is not singing about Shirts and shoes  Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Yahweh hebrew for God? Songs like Sometimes You Can't Make it on your own are deadly emotional and the music creates the perfect feeling for the song. Miracle Drug is about a boy who is either in a coma or quadrapaligic and through medicine/science and his mothers love not to give up, he is able to comunicate for the first time. Pretty cool. Vertigo is an awesome rock song and for those who continue to mock it do so in my opinion cause it's U2. Lyrically the song is plain fun. I don't think the album is as bad lyrically nas many say it is. Sure it's not Achtung baby good but it compares with the Joshua Tree. I mean the lyrics on that album aren't overly complex. The album is a great album but the band screwed up in my opinion by not including Mercy and having Fast Cars on the japanese Edition only. That was dumb. I measure an album by how long I listen to it after I buy it. Most times an album slowly fades to the cd rack after a few weeks and then gets played from time to time. This album is growing more an more on me everyday and I have two copies now. One for the house and one for the car. I also got the album on Vinyl today. So yeah I really like it. I admit that it does not live up to the hype. What U2 album can? I admit I am dissapointed at the lack of rock songs like Vertigo and All Becasue of You. I'm disapointed that they left to killer tracks(Mercy & Fast Cars) off the album. On the flip side I think Bono sounds better than ever. Adam Clayton's bass playing is remincent of the early albums like WAR, Larry is as cool as ever on the drums and the Edge's signature sound is back. It's a U2 album and if you were expecting anything else, than you set yourself up for disapointment even before you heard the thing.

This post is complete objective. I'm a U2 fan don't forget and this album screams U2 so yes I like it.

  6. Oh and one more thing about the album and I know alot of you will think I'm nuts but whatever.... I think the album cover is the best U2 album cover yet. I don't know why. It just looks cool. It's bold with the black border and the black and white picture of the band looks cool and the red at the top just makes it stand out. Not that album covers determine how good an album is but you know

  7. I purchased the album on the strength of 'Vertigo' hoping that the rest of it would be as rocky... but after listening to it a few times, I find myself putting 'American Idiot' and 'Hurricane Party' back in the CD player.  The album seems to lack any punch.

I knew there must have been a reason why I didn't have any U2 in my CD collection...

    Sorry Bono, jmo.

I hear ya. the album definatley isn't the rock album we were led to believe. I really dig the album and find that the songs seem to get better and better but I must admit I was a bit disapointed with the lack of solid rock songs. You have to expect some mellowness with U2 but all the hype surrounding the album was that is was a guitar driven, angry rock album. Hmmmmm.... The public will be lead on even further now that the new single All Because of You is on radio. that's a pretty good rocker as well as Vertigo but from there it gets pretty tame. Love and Peace or Else is the only other one that gets going and it's kinda slow in the same vain as Bullet the Blue Sky(Joshua Tree) only with a bit more of a bluesy feel to it. I think Bono's voice is amazing and he sounds better than ever, even with the raspiness creeping in(must be getting old  ). But songs like Sometimes you Can't Make it on Your Own and Miracle Drug are up there with the best of U2 ballads. I do wish they would someday put out a solid upbeat album though. So yeah, I love the album but I feel that I was misled  These songs will adapte incredibly well to the live show I think B)

  8. Too many have stated the obvious. Solo artists who use a backing band do not count. I mean it's obvious that Avril Lavigne is bigger than her band. That's like saying Robbie Williams is bigger than his band. well yeah.

  9. Bono - The only voice that combines rock and soul

Axl- amazing energy, anger and passion

David Uhser - Live is where he shines

Robert Smith - saddest and happiest voice in music. Sometimes drug like

Eddie Vedder - inspired a million copycats and is the only one to do it right

  10. I might pick her album up tonight but it might not see the cd player for a few weeks. I think the reason is obvious  But I do want to hear this album. I dig the first single and yes the video is great.

  11. O.k. just for the record this is the last thhread I'll start regarding U2's new album. Doesn't mean I won't post about U2 anymore, it just means I'm done starting threads dedicated to the new album. Now here's what I thik of it:

I can't really describe it. It's not the "Rock" album we were lead to believe but it does rock emotionally. This album is 100% heart and Soul. You can hear it in the playing and definately hear it in Bono's voice more now than ever. After 3 listens my favorite song is definately Sometimes You Can't Make it On Your Own Listening to it today it was the first song ever that brought tears to my eyes.Knowing what the song is about I started thinking of not necessarily Bono singing it at his Dad's funeral, but basically anyone singing a song like this at their parents funeral. Somthing you wrote for them and dedicate to them. I can't imagine how anyone would get through it. It's a pretty powerful song as is the album. Which by the way is dedicated to bono's dad. That's all I'll say. I love the album so far and first reaction is that it's the best U2 album since Achtung Baby. It's up there with Achtung and Joshua Tree in my opinion.

Oh and if anyone does want to say what they think about the album we should keep it all in one thread. I'll nominate this thread. ;)

  12. Justin Tiberlake was in NSync, Beyonce was in Destiny's Child.

Anyway I think Jon Bon Jovi fits here. Nikki Sixx and Marlyn Manson also.

Funny that you say Nikki Sixx becasue I would definately say that Tommy Lee was and is much bigger than Nikki Sixx. Yeah Sixx wrote all the songs but Tommy was the most popular guy in Motley Crue. Whoever said Gwen Stefani was bang on. I forgot about her

  13. Well if it's U2 then it makes perfect sense becasue the album comes out in North America tomorrow. PLus calling it a surprise apperance/performance might be a security thing. Is it gonna be filmed outdoors? i mean if they announced U2 was playing outdoors it might casue problems. I mean remember when they filmed the video for Where the Streets Have no name in LA and word got out, it went nuts and too many people showed up. Also for those of you who think it's lame if U2 does this, you're the same people who would think it would be so fucking cool for Guns to do it  One more thing, we're talking about MTV so it's quite possible it could be somthing like Good Charlotte. Though everything seems to point towrads U2. I hope it's Guns N' Roses but had I heard this anywhere else but here, Guns wouldn't even been considered in my mind.

  14. Damn, i wished they showed it here on tv. :anger:

Which three songs did they play?

They played Vertigo, Sometimes You Can't Make it on Your Own, and I Will Follow. Thye played a fourth song to but NBC cut away as the show was over. <_< So I don't know what the fourth song was.

  15. Anyone got this ripped for those of us poor Brits that don't get SNL?

Good question. I thought for sure it would be posted somwhere but i haven't found it. I'd love to see it again and maybe even find out what the fourth song they played was. It would be awesome to post it here so those who didn't want to bother watching on saturday could have a chance to see the best SNL performance ever. ;)

  16. I was watching the making of the video for My Band by D12 today and it got me to thinking who in jusic has gotten bigger than their band? Not very many come to mind of those who got bigger than the band but they're are a few who seem to have equalled the band's "bigness". here's afew I can think of

    Ozzy

    Bono

    Axl

    John Lennon

    Sting

    Justin Timberlake

    Beyonce

Those are a few and I think that only Ozzy and Sting are actually bigger than their original bands. Axl and Bono are huge but they don't insite the same response as Guns N' Roses or U2. John Lennon was by far the biggest Beatle but he's not as big as the Beatles. the other two I through in for humour sake. they aren't in bands so....

  17. As you can see there is no time left on the clock. the album has arrived. In Europe anyways. Us North Americans will have to wait untill tomorrow morning or tonight at midnight. Me I have to wait untill tomorrow at 9:00am. No midnight sale around here

  18. That performance was breathtaking....I was literally speechless after watching it. It was so cool at the end when Bono and The Edge left the stage to go to the crowd. Fuck, even SNL members were crying when Bono went over to them. That was so cool how Bono went to that lady in the crowd and acted like a male stripper on her. (hehe) This has to be the best band performance I have ever seen on SNL.

I can only see Axl n' the boys topping that but it would be fuckin' hard.

I agree with you Indy, the performance was fucking awesome. I loved how Bono screamed into the mic right att ehbegining of Vertigo "This is live! Live! live! live!" fucking aweosme. I also though it was kick as that they played 3 songs. Too bad they didn't keep the camera's rolling for the fourth song. I wonder what they played

  19. On "Let me entertain you", he sounds uncannily like Axl in the chorus.

That's a great song and I suppose I can see(hear) what you're saying, but I seem to think there are times when he sounds a bt like Liam Gallagher. Robbie has a raspy voice so when he goes loud it can sound a bit like Axl or Liam. Shit even Bon Jovi a tiny bit at times. I like Robbie Williams. Yeah I said it and I mean it. he has a great voice.
