  1. There was only a few sold, I'm guessing maybe half a dozen at the most probably less, before Niven found out and made the guy stop selling them since they were never done to be sold. I'm guessing he just got them ripped because DAT's deteriorate over time.

The seller was either the guy that transferred them for him or somehow he got a copy and made extra copies and tried selling them.

I didn't pay anything for these they were given to me.

  2. My guess is she knows what side her bread is buttered on so she wouldn't be going anywhere. Why walk away from the cash cow?

I think the bigger question is would Axl ever give Beta the ass. I think that is a much more realistic proposition. He actually did boot her out of the house a few years ago for a couple of weeks after she went behind his back and tried to get Goldstein back into the fold. Goldstein the clown put photos of himself from the meeting with her on facebook, which obviously got back to Axl and he hit the roof.

  3. Exactly what does it matter if he was drunk. Often someone's true thoughts and feelings come out when they ate drunk and their defenses are down. If

Re that Vegas thing Mark. It was made out by the Axl camp that Slash had his guitar in hand with him at the venue as he and Perla tried to get into the gig. I find that completely laughable.

I'm guessing he was spotted checking into his hotel or something similar with his guitar which is not surprising that a musician takes an axe with them when they travel. This info was then relayed to Axl by whoever saw it and probably distorted and exaggerated saying he was trying to get into the venue with it as if he was going to jump up on stage or something in an attemp to ruin the show.

Are you able to shed any light on this incident?

  4. As simple as it sounds, couldn't Axl have just made a contract stipulating what happens when Slash or Duff dies, instead of using it as an excuse to get hold of the name, and effectively become everyones boss.

Yep you could have had a written agreement starting that the name reverts to the the remaining 2 original members if one of the 3 of them died. So if Slash died then that leaves Axl & Duff with the name. If they were worried about the dollar value the name had to ensure that their estate was looked after, then you could have valued the name and taken out life insurance for each of them. That way if Slash dies then the life insurance proceeds are used to payout Perla and effectively buy Slash's share of the name. That way the remaining members don't have to deal with the spouses.

It's actually a very common problem for partnerships/people in business together, but one that is relatively easy to deal with in a fair and equitable way if you wish to. You just have buy/sell agreements and funding with insurance if you want the party to be paid out for their share of the GNR name.

  5. I have heard Axl say that he had to eat some shit when Niven booked the tour.

Yeah he has ranted about it a few times, once in the online chats and a couple of times on stage. One of those New Year's Eve gigs in Vegas in 2001 he said Alan Niven had forced the band to tour in 1991, which had resulted in Niven's dismissal.

Haha Niven gets them a renegotiation effectively worth millions and Axl sacks him as thanks. lol nice.

I heard that Niven asked Geffen to give GNR the best contract at the label. But apparently Don Henley already had a clause in his contract saying no other artist could have a better deal than him. So Niven told them to send Henley $1 every time the royalty cheque came in. haha Classic

  6. David Geffen left the label in 1990, he went on to help run Dreamworks. and do a bunch of philanthropy work. Any problems the label had with GNR (or vice versa) from that point on, had nothing to do with him.

He actually sold Geffen records in 1990 to MCA (later renamed Universal), but didn't leave until 1995. Getting those UYI records completed was a big deal for Geffen coz he knew that would significantly jack up what he could get for the sale. I believe that's why he ultimately relented and agreed to renegotiate GN'R's contract. Niven played hard ball with him and said he wouldn't get the albums unless he renegotiated the contract and instead the band would just tour and make money David didn't believe this was possible so Niven started booking tour dates and they started selling like hot cakes. Pretty quickly David realised he would need to renegotiate.

Problem then was that the first lot of dates were booked and the album wasn't quite finished. So they ended up having to honour those dates and start the UYI tour even though the album wasn't out.

  7. I believe Axl or rather his "camp" (Axl's lawyer, then Beta then Del) attempted to get Goldstein involved in the legal spat over the name a few years ago asking him to side with Axl's version of events. But the trouble was Dougie had a different version of events from both Axl's as well as Slash N' Duffs.

Doug recollects that John Reese the UYI Tour Manager had called him saying that Axl had said he wouldn't go onstage during the UYI tour unless they signed off the name. Doug also disagreed with the assertion by Slash N' Duff that he told them to sign off on the name.

But Doug declined to get involved in the dispute as at the time he didn't care too much to go out of his way to help Axl. He was still smarting over missing out on a $1,000,000 payment when Axl left Sanctuary with Merc. Axl and Merc did that deed just 2 weeks prior to Doug getting the back end of the deal he did with Sanctuary for the said sum of money when he sold them Big FD Entertainment.

Sadly I don't know if we will ever get to the truth of exactly what went down. My feel is that there is most likely miscommunication and both sides are probably reasonably accurate with their version of events. The real lesson here is to talk to people directly instead of using third parties when it's something important. When using a middle man/woman often the message isn't relayed properly - Chinese Whispers ;) or is manipulated for other reasons by those gobetweens. Sadly we still seem to see this occuring today with Axl.

  8. Axl worked with a lot of great producers. In the end I don't know why they moved on. I don't know the details. Except for Tom Zutaut which was because of 2 reasons that I heard of , one that he said was because of a miscommunication of something that happened between him and Beta and then Beta and Axl over a showing of the film that there was going to be a GNR song in and also may have had something to do with Tom still having contact with Slash when he promised that he wouldn't. Something about when they were in the studio and Tom's phone rang and it said Slash on the incoming number. There could have also been some other things that I don't know too.

Yeah and it was also because of that phone call in the studio from Slash (I mentioned this in my question thread about Yoda) that Axl then made Zoot go and get an exorcism. Lol

  9. I see Slash invited the young guitarist Alan Niven has been working with up on stage last night to do a blues jam with him. Pretty nice gesture by Slash. Chris is only 20 and is a kick ass player, that can play the blues with real feeling. Technical proficiency and speed is one thing, but playing blues with feel and emotion is a rare find IMHO.

I've been watching him since he first posted youtube clips of his playing as a 16/17 year old. He's a big guns fan too, I think he used to post on GNRSource before that forum disappeared into the ether.

Google him for some of his other work.

This vid is lesser quality but has Slash introducing him.

  10. Technically Mark wasn't it Axl that left the original partnership.

He left with the name, set up a new entity - called it Guns N' Roses, then offered the guys to join him as "employees".

My understanding was that Slash and Duff still remain to this day in the original partnership. Did Slash and Duff actually ever "sign on" as employees in Axl's new entity?

Duff did but I don't think Slash ever did. I don't know for sure all the details about the way the partnership went or who left first.

That's interesting if Duff joined but Slash never did.

So really under those circumstances it was Axl that left Slash not the other way around, yet Axl is the one with the abandonment issues.

  12. That's "Stolat" some crazy chick that lives in South Australia and has a vivid imagination. She was banned a few years ago from HTGTH.

Here is one of her equally crazy threads from HTGTH. Funny as fuck, until you start to entertain the thought that she might actually believe this shit.

    stolat:

There was something that really stood out when I heard November Rain at the Adelaide concert.

Just before the last guitar solo (the outro), Axl stopped singing, the band stopped playing and I though to myself. Oh, aren't they going to play the outro. Surely not!

Suddenly, the stage lights went down and a second later, the stage was bathed in a deep blue light. There was a pause and then the song picked up again and the outro was played.

Now, in any stage production you just don't use lights willy nilly. Lighting is used to add to the performance.

So what was the significance of the blue light? And the obvious pause before the outro?

Having spent some time here prior to the concert, my brain just went "oh, The Blues"..........a message for Slash maybe?

Did any one else notice this at the concerts?

Yeah right the blue light is clearly a message to Slash..... lol
