  1. Pretty weird this turned into a Tommy bashing thread. He was in a band for a LONG time that barely released an album. The guy could dish all kinds of dirt on how obnoxious certain things about the band and Axl were, but instead, he just goes about his life doing what he wants. He did his part in the band and has now moved on. This whole "Tommy never cared" stuff is really dumb. Was this a job to him? Hell yeah, it was (just as it was for every other hired member at the time). Also, people really underestimate the commitment and effort it takes to go on tour, especially with someone like Axl that pulled his showing up late shit non-stop back then. I'd say he's treated his time in and out of the band with more respect than most people would.

  2. I was a big follower of this era until Chinese Democracy was released. I guess I would call it the "braids/cornrow"/Finck era of the band. It was really interesting right from the star with Buckethead in the band, then Axl hit his stride vocally in 2006 and that was amazing to see. Once the album finally got released, I loved (and still enjoy) most of it. After the release came and went though with no promotion/touring, it soured for me. I did see them in 2011 and it was an awesome show. I could just never really get into the whole Ashba era very much and never felt compelled to pick up the blu ray from that era.

  3. Physical media isn't what it used to be, but... the GNR fan demographic would still be into that sort of thing. Just because people in their 20's and younger mostly do digital doesn't mean a Guns N' Roses release wouldn't do well. I know it sounds crazy, but actually promoting something and putting together an awesome product will sell. It would also be sold on digital which would likely pay for the physical release (not including its own sales). As most have figured out, it would take a lot of motivation from the band to actually do it... I just feel like since this tour is coming to an end soon, releasing a full show (especially one from an Adler appearance) would be a great way to make some more money from the tour and give the fans something special. I don't see it being a money-losing effort. I mean, even movies that bomb at the box office get 4K releases with steelbooks these days

  4. I remember reading some possible rumors that the 2016 Dodger Stadium shows had a more beefed-up camera crew and they were recording for a potential release. Do we think there's any truth to that? And do we think once this tour is finally over, they'll finally put that together? I think it'd be a real shame to not get a professionally mixed show in at least 1080p from this reunion. The live selections on YouTube just aren't up to the quality that this caliber band should put out.

    What do you think?

I really want to start a petition to have "The General being a B-Side to the Perhaps single doesn't mean it is being regarded/disregarded or treated as a lesser release pinned at the top of this forum lol

Yes, please. a B-side in the current vinyl track is literally just another track on the single release. It's not a non-album (that doesn't apply here) or lesser track.

At the show. Everyone around me commenting on how great Axl sounds. Goes to show the forums aren’t the end all be all. He’s on fire tonight; going for it with the stage presence more than I’ve ever seen him.

They just finished KOHD. Axl said they’re not doing an encore break due to curfew; they jumped right into LALD.

Axl has been consistent vocal wise. The only song I could notice him struggling with was Hard Skool. Best Slither I’ve heard from them at the shows I’ve seen since they started playing that song. Ironically, of the new songs, I’d say Absurd actually got best reaction. At the end of the Absurd story Axl said “it seemed like an appropriate memory given that I wrote the song about an asshole.”

Axl usually always sounds better in person with the band kicking ass around him. Youtube/phone recordings always seek out the vocals and highlight them much more than is normally heard in a live mix. I've never been able to complain though having been lucky to only see good shows from Axl (Indianapolis 2011 with nu-Guns, Cincinnati 2016, and with Axl/DC).

Great show. On the rail near the edge of the stage on Slash's side was incredible. Watching him play from 6 feet away is something I'll never forget. The sound was great. They had little speakers in front of the stage so I could clearly hear all of the layers of sound including all of the backing vocals.

A couple of times I could hear the strumming of Slash's guitar strings directly. Axl was in a good mood and pretty chatty. He clarified after Perhaps that he wasn't wrong.  He complemented the venue and said he was being genuine. Towards the end of the show his IEM box died and he yelled over to side stage, "it's dead." I never thought I'd be close enough to hear Axl on stage without a microphone.

It is interesting that he spends his time during the instrumental parts rotating between blowing his nose, hocking loogies and telling jokes to Melissa..

Set list was very good and Axl sounded good for the most part. I didn't think I was transported to 1991 but it was good enough that I prefer what I heard tonight to singing high pitched songs in baritone. I'm not positive but I think Melissa might actually sing the screams in Absurd. Axl kept pointing to her and it looked like she was singing. If she was triggering a recording she wouldn't need Axl to give her a cue nor would he point out that she's doing a good job pressing a button.

That's it for now. Maybe I'll have some other comments tomorrow.

That sounds like an awesome experience. Seeing Slash that close ripping through solos would be unforgettable.

  8. I believe that deep down Axl wanted the original band to work out, but life/shit/drugs happened and they imploded. I feel like Axl releasing these random tracks now is his way of putting out the CD leftovers that he has the most personal attachment to still. He may have lost interest in some of the leaks people have heard and doesn't feel the need to put them out into the world anymore. I think he also genuinely wanted Duff/Slash to be on them at this point to make them feel more legitimate/complete to him. If that's not the reason, he could have released them years ago.

I believe Axl is really comfortable with the people in Guns N' Roses right now. We all know that Izzy coming back, sticking around, and writing an album was likely never going to happen. In an alternate universe, maybe... but we're incredibly lucky the reunion that we got even happened. Do I wish they'd put out a new album with Slash/Duff writing it with maybe some input from Fortus and Dizzy? Hell yes. Maybe it'll happen still... but I'm not holding my breath. We'll see these next two songs come out and MAYBE a few more.  I feel like more than 6 would be pointless and they should have just put them into an album. I just hope if we do get a new album, it doesn't include these tracks that we've already heard. I don't trust Axl to work fast enough to put lyrics/vocals to 10-12 new songs before he's 70 though.

There's a few reasons why some consider it the holy grail of unreleased GNR music. For starters it's one of the three A-listed CD-era songs that Marco Beltrami worked on. So we know that it's considered a "big gun". The other two songs that we know are A-listed according to Sp1at are Seven and Soulmonster.

People who have heard it have praised it including Dizzy who said: "last year Brain had this song called "The General" that was really cool".

Brain himself who said: "it's an awesome jam... i hope it's released soon!!!!!! [...] it will come out... the shits to good!!!!!"

Sebastian Bach said: "one of my favorite songs is this song called "The General", which is so… it's by far the heaviest metal tune I think Ι've ever heard Axl do, this slow, grinding riff with these high, piercing vocals, screaming vocals."

Accrording to The Rolling Stones Bach also said that the General would be a sequel to Estranged, but there's a good reason to believe that might be a missquote.

Anyway, most recently Fernando said: "Perhaps is a great song; the General is a monster"

GNR also used to use the orchestral part of The General as an intro to their concerts. You don't tease people with tiny bits of an unreleased song unless you're proud of the song.

The song was played at some GNR after party and we've heard a cellphone clip of it. It sounds cool.

So yeah, there's many reasons to be hyped for the song. Personally I'm hyped because it doesn't sound like anything that we've heard from GNR before. It's dark and epic with an orchestra. The fact that it's different alone makes me want to hear it.

But you're right, if you hype something up too much, it's probably going to dissapoint. That kinda happened to me with Prostitute back in the day. Prostitute used to be an extremely hyped song, so for me it couldn't possibly live up to the hype.

Still, I consider Prositute to be a very good song. And that's enough. I'm Happy if The General is "only" a very good song.

I appreciate the input. It helps put it into perspective. I've been visiting this place for what seems like decades... but just couldn't remember all the details and info.
