Robin's bend still gets me every time
Slash actually plays off of Robin's harmony during the first 5-10 seconds, then it's just Slash. Seems intentional...

Personally I’m going to try to avoid it and just hear the final version. Would rather just have a surprise.
Good idea.
The last thing any of us need to do is complain about how Slash's new lead work isn't as good as Paul Tobias' lead on the demo.- 3

I wonder if we get The General in September? That gives them a chance to play it on tour AND promote the 7".
-
Do we think The General comes sometime next month? It doesn't HAVE to wait to come out when the 7" is released.

A whole new webstore WITH 8 ball.

Actually a really good video. Props to them for actually trying a little bit!

Say what you want, folks... but new GNR music is being released in 2023. Perhaps and the General.

If anyone has access to a hi fi set of speakers or headphones, go that route when listening. Sounds way better. It’s actually very catchy.
If you don't own a decent pair of headphones or speakers, do you even love music? It blows my mind that someone would listen on just built-in laptop speakers or just a phone. So yes, I agree.

I’m not pressed that some people don’t enjoy “Perhaps.” It’s just funny how scorched earth some of the commentary is. It’s not that serious. It’s just a song. Listen. Or don’t. The part that sucks is we’re a starving fan base. Maybe we wouldn’t have to scrutinize these songs if they would come out with a handful of them every couple years rather than a song every 14 years.
I agree. Easy to overanalyze and be critical and all the other stuff because of the lack of material. If this was just one song on a full LP of "bangers", most of us would enjoy it either way.

What exactly did she play though? I don't hear anything.
Absurd has much more energy though.
My World has more energy than Patience, doesn't make it better.

Going to wait until I hear it on Spotify tonight before commenting on the mix etc, but so far I'm not really impressed. I prefer Absurd and HS. This song could've been developed more.
Absurd is the perfect representation of an underdeveloped song, in my opinion. This is a tighter, more catchy track.

No mention of Perhaps being released on Gunsnroses.com.
I know that doesn't change anything, but you'd think that a new release would at least be mentioned on the official website?
New music comes out on Fridays. It is being said that Radio got an early exclusive day before release.
I'd expect some sort of announcement later today about it coming out at midnight tonight. Or you'll see nothing and it'll just show up on normal streaming platforms at midnight. -

It's evident that Axl wants to use Brain's drum tracks on these songs.
As for Melissa, she seemingly contributed to the other two singles, at least according to her website (I guess she mostly replaced Pitman's parts). Maybe she isn't on Perhaps because it wasn't necessary, as Dizzy did the keyboard work.
I thought everyone was complaining that Frank was on Hard Skool? So these three tracks so far are all Brain?

I like it, but I wish it sounded less… busy. Even Axls vocals seem to be buried in the mix at times.
Everything from the CD era is too busy. Too many layered vocals. Even the chorus on this song has at least 3 vocal takes/melodies. It goes from busy to messy. I still like it, but it could use some simplifying, like most from that era.

The GNR music the world wants to hear is akin to the star wars movie the world wants to see in the sense that no one knows what that actually is. Not the first time I've said that but with repetition being the norm on forums I'm just trying to fit in.
Damn right. I also think that even if they wrote a song about getting drunk and crashing cars again with a blues-inspired hard rock riff, people would just say it's a "worse" Nightrain or It's So Easy.

On par with “If the World” not great. So many classic Chinese Democracy songs that should’ve been released to Radio in 2008 and as singles with music videos.
fast forward to 2023: we get b-sides like Absurd, Hard Skool & Perhaps released . And re-worked by the big 3!😂
so disappointing
I think Perhaps is much better than If the World. If the World is the only track on CD that I am tempted to skip over on every listen. I also was never big on IRS, even though I know that's like blasphemy to CD lovers. People wanting classic GNR are going to be unhappy with every single song released in the near future. They all sound like CD for obvious reasons.

I think Robin had a good solo, but I don't think it is as good as some of his other solos on Chinese Democracy (which I am a big fan of). I can 100% see how people that have listened to the leak many times before would find the new solo to seem lazier and less interesting. I think they are apples/oranges. Robin's is more adventurous and creates new melodies, while Slash is just vibing in the song. Just two different approaches.

It must be weird to help write a song musically, be really excited about it, then see it released 20 years later with others taking some of the credit
Oh well, looking forward to it being released in a more high quality way to really be able to fully enjoy it. -

Is that the demo we've heard or the legit new version? I wouldn't know.

So... I missed it live. Is there anywhere that you can rewind these live broadcasts to hear it?

Releasing music is what music bands do. Especially those who haven’t done anything of the sort in decades and recently reunited and keep dangling carrots regarding tons of material. Writers don’t just do public readings, they also release the actual, you know, products. For the majority to enjoy it at home in the original version, any time and any way they like. But yeah, let’s rather find another excuse for NITL leg 78654, this time with a different cover and another rehashed old demo.
Axl should just release a Deluxe Chinese Democracy in a box set with part 2 as is (or whatever is left/finished). I don't think he realizes how liberating it'd be for him to just let the material go. Then... if the current formation of the band wanted to release an album, they could just deliver Axl 10-12 original instrumentals for him to write and put vocals on. I doubt we'll ever get a truly collaborative album. Too many possibilities for tensions to arise.

Robin's solos on the Chinese Democracy album are pretty much flawless and fucking amazing work (and are a big reason I revisit the album). I think people just bash him on here because he changed up some of the classics' solos, especially when they did that first GNR tour. That's not fair to his playing on the CD album. He lays down memorable and perfectly executed leads on Better, Street of Dreams, TWAT, This I Love, etc. I can't imagine those songs with better solos on them and Slash never did top them in all of his live improvs. I definitely like Slash more all around, but I don't think it's fair to be bashing on Finck.
