This booking has two things working against it:
-New York City has a curfew
-It's on a Sunday night and people will want to leave early since they have to work the next morning
And they picked Axl Rose of all people to close the festival on Sunday night.
lol

Dear Axl,
I see plenty of people singing your praises on this very board about how the Chinese Democracy album is amazing and is the very reason why people still come to your shows.
So, I have a challenge for you.
At the Governors Ball Festival where you will headline on June 9th, I would like you to play Chinese Democracy in its entirety. Yes, nothing else besides that entire album.
No solos. No "Sweet Child O' Mine". No "Paradise City".
Just the album that you're so proud of. In its entirety.
The fans will love it, right?
Toodles!

It's because of CD that GnR is able to fit in with the rest of these performers.
This is a BIG ACCOMPLISH for GnR to reach this new level of artistic respect. An artistic respect that the OLD band never had, hence, why there are many people who don't think GnR deserves or should be on the list of performers with these other performers.
Holy shit, what kind of crack are you smoking?
Chinese Democracy had no hit singles and none of the casual ticket-buyers attending this festival will know any of the songs from it.

Aerosmith's last #1 hit was in 1998 when Steven Tyler was 50.
Aerosmith's last Top 10 hit was in 2000 when Steven Tyler was 52.
Axl Rose is now 51 years old.
His window is closing if he ever wants to be relevant again.
But it's 2013 now. People don't give a shit about rnr, they just want some gay faces with stupid songs and lameass music videos.
Aerosmith's last hits were pop ballads.
Axl will have to do a collaboration with a younger artist if he wants to get mainstream airplay. "The General" will never be a hit.

Some random dude.
Tweetstorms may seem big, but if the box office talks, Twitter walks. They'd lose far more by removing Guns than they'd gain by dropping them.
Um, if they can afford Kanye they could easily afford Metallica or another band who would draw more people than NewGNR.
-
This is the first American festival GNR has played, isn't it?
Mostly they stick to European festivals where classic rock is still revered.
This should be amusing.

Another example of the cupcakes trying to change the subject to my weight or to wrestling whenever the facts don't support their position in the on topic discussion.
But why is it allowed to continue? Why would the mods be in favor of such disruptive behavior? Especially when it's caused so many longtime fans to pack their bags and leave the site?
The only conclusion many of us can come to is that the cupcakes must have the mods in their back pocket. What other explanation could there be for allowing the same people day in and day out to so blatantly attempt to disrupt any legitimate discussion?
Don't dish it if you can't take it, son.

I don't that's ever happened in the history of GNR... Has it? Like actually getting booed to the point where they just go home?Go on the Facebook page for the event and click "Recent Posts by Others" and everyone's either just bashing GNR or asking to buy single-day tickets. Mostly GNR-bashing though.
Single-day tickets would be awesome, because then only the Gn'R fans will buy the ticket for their day, so more room for us.
I think there will be plenty of room to move around with people skipping out on the 3rd day not wanting to see GNR.
I actually think GNR has a chance of getting booed offstage at this show.
Nope.
Marc Canter said there was an outdoor show in the early days where they got shit on, but then eventually they won the crowd over.

To be fair, for the high asking price of a 3-day event, I would expect all 3 days to have good headliners.
This would be like paying $220 for a 3-day concert in 1993 headlined by Nirvana, Metallica, and REO Speedwagon.

I was listening to the radio on my way home from work tonight about some kind of petition to take "GNR" off of the governor's ball. I guess there was A LOT of negative reaction to them being the headliners, to the point people have made a petition about it. After a quick google search, I found it:
https://www.change.o...-music-festival
Take it for what it is, but looks like it's been a rough week all around for nu guns.
EDIT: Fuckin' phone. Can somebody edit the title to "apparently axl's not wanted at the governor's ball"? Thanks.
...you're the guy who started the petition, aren't you?
All I can think of is maybe Governor Cuomo is a GNR fan.
But yeah, they're out of place.

This reminds me of when that idiot paid like $500 for the Chinese Democracy album a few weeks before its release just so he could say he was first to post the tracks online.
Just wait for the American broadcast.
-
This is Rocket Queen from the same day. Not fake, not tampered and unmodified. Goddamn, this is awful.
If all the "Axl is saving his voice! He can still sing well on the albums!" defenders are right, you would think he would have upped his game for a worldwide radio broadcast.
But, alas.
I stayed up until 5am to record that XM broadcast in FLAC and ended up deleting the whole show afterwards. Just absolute trash.
-
The RQ clip is obviously fake or tampered with. Even after that it's still as good as most rock shows.
Not at all - it's from the Sirius/XM broadcast from Vegas last year.
-
His voice now would be awesome to hear on an album.
Yes - here's a soundboard from 2 months ago - he sounds just like the old days!
Or not.
-
Howard would honestly end up swaying Axl to get back together with Slash.
He did a really good interview with Lady Gaga a year or two back:
-
Still got it.
Fuck it. i can't pretend with this shit. That video is like 2% rasp and 98% Mickey Mouse. How is that "still got it"?
People who were at the shows are biased and can't get over the fact that his voice is bad.
GNR live is still a great experience - but Axl's seen much better days.
-
Of course he's better than 99% of the singers out there. That's an obvious fact. I bet you couldn't name more than one singer who rocks more than Axl right now, if you could even name one.

Argentina 1992 is Axl's best vocal performance of the Use Your Illusion era

Happy Birthday!
I made you a cake...

Part of me thought this was going to be a joke thread and that the original post was going to be this video.
Will it ever be another WTTJ that'll beat this all-time low? It'll be hard as hell...
I can't find it, but Osaka 2002 has Axl saying the wrong city name before correcting himself - there's a monitor mix of that song along with a few others from Osaka 2002 available and they're all godawful
-
If your answer to this thread is anything but 1988 MTV VMA's, you're wrong.
Gotta agree. That intro with Axl's wind tunnel roar (one of my biggest disappointments with current live Jungle's is that he simply can't do that anymore), and how his spins with the mic stand as the song breaks. Fucking classic.
He did it at Rose Bar 2010
Yeah, Rose Bar 2010 is pretty fucking amazing:
-
Axl sounds better on some CD songs than he does on some UYI songs.
The only song on Chinese Democracy that you could put on the UYI albums and not think twice would be "Sorry" - Axl's vocals are good there.
The rest of the album sounds like Axl did one take for each song (with his shitty 2001-2002 voice) and they autotuned them for the album.
I'll never, ever understand why Axl in 2006-2007, after a year of touring with his raspy voice, didn't at least try re-recording the vocals for the album.
