New interview with Slash. Talks about the album and the performance at the Oskars. Says the blues album is irrelevant to the SMKC tour (so he won't be performing any of the songs on the European SKMC tour):

Slash seems to really like and respect Gary Clark Jr as a player. maybe there will be more collaborations in the future, I can see that happening.

That's 2nd hand. Frank Sidoris is not Slash, last I checked. And you're choosing to take his statement at face value, which is also a subjective decision you're making. Further, you pointed to your impression of their passion based on live videos. That's extremely speculative.

why would Frank lie about it though? Slash seems to be having a blast with the conspirators on this tour and the poster you're replying to is credible with some connections to the band.

bc in the reunion he became the meta axl rose, trying to wear his "old" prime look in the 90s, i wonder if mentally this became some sort of a mask to gain the "idol" posture again.

in the 00S he look for a new style more organic and that was the last time axl rose look for a artistic way of expresion.

now he s trying to be the axl rose brand that the poeple know from the old times, and that axl doesn have facialhair, (ecept for the paris and some of the illusiion shows)

is there actually posturing when it comes to Axl? idk. he seems to wear what he thinks is cool and appropriate for the occasion if it's on the stage, the look changes sometimes and off the stage he has a more casual look. it doesn't seem contrived to me, but what do I know.

I like it. The vocals kinda suck, but it's a good tune with some cool dynamics.

the close to climaxing sex noises are a turn off for you iirc heh. I like the song too, the vocals I don't have an issue with, even if they're not exactly what you'd call traditionally good, especially from Duff, but I wouldn't change it personally. my favorite part of the song is Slash's leads with that tone

  5. noticed how Slsh basically did the same thing Santana did: made 1 album with guest singers of original material in 1999 (Supernatural) and another album with guest singers that was all covers (2010's Guitar Heaven)

(one difference is there's an original instrumental on Slash's Orgie Of The Damned)

Edit: santana's second guest singers album was rock covers while slash's is blues covers.

I find it funny when people say SMKC is uninspired and then say his best work is a COVER.

Not slamming the cover, I love it, but you can't say him doing someone else's song is more inspired than something wholly original. Just say you don't like it, that's okay

why can't you say that, though about a cover? you put something of yourself as a musician in a cover as well.

I really genuinely hope this isnt your outlook to real life too. Axl lets us down, and rolling over and accepting it as fans isn't a great approach to it. I know there is probably very little we can do, but that doesnt mean im going to accept it either. there's little I can do about unjust wars and rapes etc, but doesnt mean I'll just say i dont give a fuck. GnR and TB suck

how about nothing we can do? that is the reality of the situation imo. don't worry about my real life, we are discussing a rock n' roll band. it is healthy to make the distinction.

you can vote with your wallet, but that won't affect much in regards to new music and most ticket buying fans are casuals that want to hear the hits and go for nostalgia anyway.

Believe me, my expectations are low  yet Axl found a way to limbo under them and still have fans inexplicably defending him

idk it seems you still expect him to deliver like people who are not Axl release music. his last album was released 15 years ago, more than enough timet to adjust to the "new" reality that Gn'R is never going to operate like other bands. everything we get from here on out is a bonus imho. no matter what Axl still got unreleased or the potential of the current line up and will likely take years for anything more than a few tunes released to happen.

you can whine about it and repeat yourself as much as you want, it still won't change a thing or you can be pleasently surprised if/when Gn'R releases more material. just my take on it.

You're taking it too literally. No I do not believe if I buy tickets to a particular show I am owed anything other than a great performance. Soul Monster would love to paint it that way to make his axlsucking less cringe. What I am 'Owed' 'Entitled to' etc however you want to frame it, is a return on my investment in the band. Why am I? Because I buy the merch, follow the socials, buy the gig tickets, listen to the songs etc... to some degree, but more so because of the promise and constant tease of more. Axl has told us there will be 2 to 3 albums from CD. We have had 1. He never came out and said there wouldnt be any more. In fact he doubled down in 2016 again and said he wants to carry on and get all those songs out. All the members tease more songs, an album etc. They never deliver. It's not 'entitlement' it's simply asking for what we were promised.

Most of you live in some weird delusional reality where to excuse Axls horrendous release record and lies to us, you say 'Oh he lives on a different timeline to the rest of the world' or 'His clock runs differently' As Stone Cold would say... WHAT?? Axl lives in the same time as us, 365 days a year, 24 hours in a day! Hes been on time for gigs for 10 years straight now! When he was running out of cash, he found the time to quickly play for russian oligarchs and arab oil barons didnt he!? So please stop using this stupid excuse like he's from another dimension to the rest of humanity. The excuses people make on his behalf... record companies, timezones, slash, managers, bipolar, fucking lars ulrich  He is letting down his fans. And that is what I do not find acceptable.

if a person has been acting a certain way for 30 years, would you bet on them to dramatically change their ways or accept that this is probably, for whatever reason, how they choose to be/are? I don't think Axl is ever going to be prolific so what's the sensible thing to do here if not to accept it for what it is and lower your expectations?

Of course he knows. What’s not to know there. Just because he needs years to release something, it’s not like he doesn’t know that time went by lol

some posters seems to think differently so in case it wasn't obvious to everyone, just shared my opinion on it. you'd think Axl is downright delusional going by some of the posts in this thread and I think he's not detached from reality as some here may like to think he is.

Just to be fair, I didn’t go back and looked it up to confirm but we talked about the solo on Colors from Black Pumas, not the one from the Oscars appearance. Regardless, both appearances were pretty dope imo and there’s no need to pick em to peaces

Edit: It really isn’t worth arguing about that. Music is subjective and everybody feels different about it. Slash is on tour and has released a hot single, he’s just about to release another record and played at the Oscars. Did with Ken and The Dandy Warholes some cool guest appearances. Maybe there’s another single coming in April before the album drops in May. All of this is very exciting and promising. A very positive time eventually after all this mixed feelings here with the release of The General and its AI video. I’d rather enjoy this time as it’s something temporary

With SMKCs next record at the latest, the mood here will change again :shrugs:

yeah I think both these performances are cool and Slash sounds great on both. it is what it is. he's not always on like he used to be imho, but even if you agree with that, what is Slash supposed to do? put his guitar down cause he's not as brilliant as he used to be or practice being more accurate when that's not what he wants to do? it's cool to disect music if that's what you want to do, but you can't change how a player sounds like. you always have a choice as a listener to accept it for what it is or just listen to Slash in the 80's/90's if his current playing bothers you so much.

Hendrix was loose, Page was sloppy and I am plenty critical of Page for that.

To be clear, I am not against imperfections. I like Hendrix, and Slash had a similarly loose style. The key difference is that Hendrix and old Slash never completely lost the beat, were nearly always in the pocket and put melody above speed. The difference is being loose but in the pocket, and being out of pocket completely.

"Instead of playing patterns, hear the melody you're going for.
It's something that very few guitar players of my generation paid attention to." - Slash

Somehow, he's fallen into the very trap he once criticized.

I wonder, would those in here disagreeing with me say that Slash is "not rock n roll" or that he's "overanalyzing and making a science out of it" with this quote? Hmm...

I suppose Slash never learned any technique... but then how did he know to use the harmonic minor in Sweet Child?

I guess you meant theory with the harmonic minor. Slash knows basic theory and a bunch of scales. his technique improved compared to when he was younger.

the way he plays now doesn't have much to do with what he knows imo, it's just less inspired and maybe has something to do with the fact that he's sober now like he talked about.

it's an easy solution to play faster and more notes when you don't have a clear idea on how to continue your musical direction when you're soloing, which sometimes Slash does now.

he doesn't lose direction all the time. I don't disagree that nowdays it's not as good as it was, he didn't stay at the level he was at his peak imo.

I think his aim is to still be a melodic player but it doesn't always happen and he said that nowdays sometimes he rushes live from excitement because he's not drinking anymore. could be true or he just doesn't feel it as much anymore most of the time like he used to for whatever reason.

I think the talent managers brought them all together and just waited for them to become friends, and then the myths about what a fun and friendly band they were were fixed in interviews and then in autobiographies. By the way, one of the talent managers, Vicky Hamilton, said that Axl threatened her. That's not why he threatened her so that she wouldn't blab about how it really was?

In addition, someone in one of the biographies (I don't remember who wrote, maybe Steven Davis or maybe Razcue) mentioned that Duff was brought to GNR by a talent manager. I think the name Vicky Hamilton was mentioned.

It was from the very beginning. The usual way to survive and build a career. Nothing to condemn. Judging by the stories of participants in the Los Angeles scene and near it, there were many children of rich parents and parents with musical connections among the musicians in the city. Izzy led the line of acquaintance with them. Chris Webber is the son of wealthy parents, Tracii Guns and Slash are the children of well-connected parents. I think at some point (if we remember, Izzy took Axl away from Rapidfire), they both realized that without influential friends they would not advance. They were ready for the marketing deal mentally. And I think Slash and his parents were actively involved in this deal (Axl and Izzy offer themselves as a tandem of creators, authors (songs, riffs and possibly solos) Slash offers his connections.

In my opinion, the idea of a marketing project is the missing puzzle to understand what is happening with the band now and especially the last 8 years, no matter how bitter the truth may be. They are used to making deals, acting rationally, and not going the romantic creative way of creating a work of art together. The fact is that the deal between Axl/Izzy and Slash completed (circa 1991). For a new collaboration, they need a new foundation, in this case it's only money. In the classic line-up, the author of the riffs and songs was Izzy/Axl and the fact that they refused to reunite Izzy (songwriter) suggests that writing an album with original music was not from the beginning part of the reunion deal.

    I guess Dave's right.

    a lot of baseless speculation.
