  1. If you look at the songwriting credits on the Illusion albums, a lot of the songs where Slash has a credit are what I would call "riff rockers" (for lack of a better term). So far there haven't been any songs that are quite like that, and maybe that's what the other guys would have preferred to do.. Yes, most of the leaked songs would not sound out of place on the Illusions, but they're Axl-type songs.

You mean like the coma/head banging songs? If so I agree, I'm really curious what Uncle Axl has got for us in CD but writing those hard rock bone crunching songs like You Could Be Mine/Nightrain was more Slash/Izzy's department....Axl is great for ballads and writing lyrics. That's why the old band were a deadly combination, their harder edge with Axl's epic ballad style was a great marriage.

  2. Master of the obvious I suppose, but this material seems like a nice segue from UYI to the next album. It's about on par with the jump from AFD to UYI. It seems like the most logical progression of Guns N Roses to modernize itself but keep its roots somewhat in tact(bluesy sound)...

Now what I'm wondering is, at the risk of beating a dead horse, why in gods name couldn't the old band have played this music? I can understand OMG not being in the style of the old band and apparently a song Duff and Matt hated. But the new material is much more in the traditional guns style and daresay much lighter in tone. This isn't abrasive NIN style music. Its like a more evolved UYI style mixed with *elements* of industrial and electronica to make it modern. It's a cool mix, I dig it a lot. The solos aside from the bucket shredding could have easily been done with Slash.

I think this is going to be one of those constant observations from critics of Chinese Democracy, this material could have been recorded with the old band.

For example, the final bluesy solo in "Better" coincidentally the most gnrish song, cant you just picture Slash walking out on stage with his tophat and a marlboro dangling from his lips ripping that solo from his les paul? When I heard that solo the first thought that came to me was "Slash?!"....

For the record it looks like all members of the new band have done a great job on these songs, Finck in the studio seems to have earned his place in the band with that solo in Better....

  3. Interesting scenario. I think the problem with GnR as of now is that Axl is extremely polarizing with the media. He's always been controversial and a lot of the negativity surrounding Guns would be gone if Axl was not in the band anymore. He's kind of a love/hate type of person and its hard to not notice the detractors of gnr almost always focus their criticism more on Axl and his "eccentricities" rather than the music. Similar to Michael Jackson where the persona distracts from the music. However, without Axl the band would be lacking the explosive edgy element. Guns N Roses gives off a rebellious and dangerous aura mostly due in part to Axl's unpredictability. Some of that was also due to Slash, he was a cool and mysterious looking guitarist, a great image.

An Axl-less gnr would lose a lot of the negativity that follows guns, but it would also lose the edge imho. Cornell and Weiland don't bring that to the table, they seem rather boring in comparison to Axl.

  4. Guns N' Roses never broke up. The douches left one by one, Axl HAD to hire new musicians.

It's not like the whole band broke up and then Axl decided to form a new one and call it GN'R. If Duff was still there people wouldn't want the name to change, but after he left, no, Axl & Dizzy weren't enough to still be GN'R.

This is Guns N' Fuckin Roses people.

Dude....shut the fuck up please....you aren't a spokesman for the fans

The fact that you refer to the old members as douches destroys your credibility.

  5. You know what the thing is? Slash could play all the shit in the leaks....Better's last solo and CITR/TWAT are all Slash's area of expertise....he'd also do a good shred in the bucket section of Better a la Paradise City outro....

yeah.. slash is just as good as bucket for these songs.. like you said, just listen to the orginal paradise city outtro.. If paradise city leaked today everyone would say that it was a bucket solo

I never said he was as good as Bucket. I said he could play what was on the leaks. Obviously not shred as fast as Buckethead, but Slash is capable of doing similar solos. This material is not a huge departure from the old music. You think the guitar work in CITR, Better's last solo and TWAT couldn't have been done by Slash? It's almost like Axl's homage to Slash's bluesy sound.....

  6. So many good rants, where do I start?lol

" You think that this is funny? Next time you see someone throwing something, BEAT THE FUCKING SHIT OUT OF THEM!" - Rio

"There are some really fucking stupid people here tonight who think that throwing things will translate into a better show! I got news for you, that aint going to happen because we will fucking go home! Don't try me." - Rio

"Problem is when you start thinking that you're different from everyone else on the fuckin planet, you may have a different way of doing things but I got a good feeling you're probably a human....am I right? You're a human being....

"and he's too good and too cool to bring his rock n roll to you because the majority of you he doesn't like or want to play to...

    - Axl on kurt

  7. Judging by the leaks, the rumour of Axl getting all electronic/tecno whatever was exaggerated.

No...it means he shitcanned most of them after Oh My God was trashed by the critics and fans which is too bad because its clear he can make good songs even in that genre. I hate industrial and still loved OMG. And there are industrial/electronica elements in the new demos....

  8. This song sounds really poppy and not very GnR like....yet it still kicks ass all over the place. 2nd best out of all the leaks....

Better is the closest to the style of old GnR with the harsher vocals/tempo changes and searing guitarwork and guess what? It's also the best of the leaks....

  9. You know what the thing is? Slash could play all the shit in the leaks....Better's last solo and CITR/TWAT are all Slash's area of expertise....he'd also do a good shred in the bucket section of Better a la Paradise City outro....

  10. Why does everybody say that I.R.S. sounds like classic GnR. It doesn't!!! Yes it sounds like a classic rock song, but it sounds like a simple hard rock song that some kids wrote and play in a garage or something. Classic GnR would sound more complex.

Agreed...IRS was not up to scratch....even TWAT is not clicking completely with me....

Really digging Better and CITR though...

  11. I know Brain is pretty highly regarded as a drummer and he seems to have the strengths of Adler (swing) and Sorum (technical ability) but sometimes I feel he does a bit too much with his drumming. Like on a lot of the live bootlegs, his drumming is kind of intrusive on the music, good drumming should enhance a song....he comes across a bit flashy if that makes sense....

Adler had a nice stripped down approach to his drumming. I didnt care so much for Matt's drumming on UYI, but his work in VR is solid. Couldn't really judge it though due to the shoddy mixing on Contraband....

  12. 13 pages to trash Bon Jovi? Doesn't that seem a little excessive? Especially considering he didn't even say anything harsh like calling Axl talentless or a hack, but simply questioning Axl's ability to draw media attention. A bit harsh...

So what if he's an 80's throwback, so is Def Leppard and both of them had some decent songs in their back catalogue. They aren't completely crappy bands like Poison/Cinderella or other derivatives of 80's hair metal....

  13. You know the ironic thing? Guns actually could have been matched up against those bands kaneda listed without eliciting laughter had they stuck together till now. They were such a strong band everybody knew they were going to be one of the greats. Axl basically destroyed the whole legacy of this band for Chinese Democracy. For his sake I hope its all worth it because he pissed away the bands chance to be one of the all time greats.

As of right now there is no way any non-gnr fan would ever consider guns n roses to be up there with zeppelin and the stones. Fanboy opinion means little in the real world, an objective opinion is what ultimately counts. Guns don't stack up. Not enough material to stand a chance against those bands.

  14. I think also that fans evolve as well. When I first heard Better etc. I was shocked that I actually think they sound better than AFD or UYI. Whereas once I could never see how that could be done by Axl or VR. And I think VR failed actually. I liked there record but still thought GNR better. But with new material I think it's better than old GNR. At the time It's So Easy ruled. At the time Estranged ruled. But now, right now, I think TWAT is Better. The music is better. I don't think Axl has done much but just develop on from Illusions until he reached a point where it's better then Illusions.

    Give me a break.

  15. SO what if he hates the fucking song? He still created a memorable riff for it. Jesus christ, just because you hate your work means you have to forfeit its success?

Slash didn't create anything memorable in VR? When was the last time Van Halen did anything worth a damn? He's still a guitar god and so is Slash. How many guitarists can write memorable riffs one after the other today? None of em. Can anyone claim to have the most recognizeable riff of all time twice in a top 10 list? Slash can, and thats off one fuckin album!

Yeah Slash was wasted while playing, Finck can't play worth shit when he's sober, whats his excuse? Sounds like a whole lot of bullshit excuses to write off Slash's talent because some of you lot are too far up Axl's ass. You don't see any Slash fans saying Axl is talentless, but you morons go the extra step towards stupidity by dragging Slash's name through the mud... <_<

Face the facts, the world will never accept this lineup as Guns N Roses. You see all the shit Axl is getting just from these bootlegs? Watch the shit hit the fan once the album releases. He's set himself up for this by using the guns name.

  16. AD I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but face it, you are never going to win this argument man....the old material should not be touched....it would be a travesty....it's like re-making Gone with the Wind or Blade Runner, you can't improve on perfection......

Sly... if CD had an extra track like Rocket Queen 2006 or My Michelle 2006 you would cream your pants the second you heard it.

Well any extra track on CD would rule, I want to hear as much material from Axl as possible, but preferrably not an old song. How about those "lost" jam sessions with Slash and Zakk Wylde for starters or "This I love"? Crash Diet studio re-done with bucket shredding instead of West Arkeen would also rock the casbah...I guess if it had to be an old song, Nightrain 2006 would be a great choice. That was one of the songs I thought the new band really shined on......that bucket outro is phenomenal...

  17. as of crash diet, I was just thinking of all the demo's and i was thinking, if some one could get their hands on axl's vocal takes from that and record the music like at good quality that would kick f'n ass

Yeah a studio quality crash diet would rule...but....someone once remastered that song and put it in the download section, its pretty cleaned up sounding....If you want I can upload it for ya...
