    It's still on youtube :)

So it is, although it took me a while to find it as I naively searched combinations of the show and the date, before I realised how stupid I was being and searched for the bit of the story that grabs the attention of the non GNR fanbase.

Funnily enough the Bon Jovi bit is the only uninteresting aspect of the story for me. What I love is just hearing Axl's humour and natural storytelling "they were right - we are scumbags" "these same 5 guys holding ice packs on their heads" "pretty low, right, for a big fucker" "so to distract him I told him to fuck off" and then as I've already mentioned "I wasn't even fighting and it took five fucking assholes to hold me down" which has to be my favourite Axl quote of all time.

When I used to listen to this more frequently the whole show was on YT and earlier in the set Axl explains that the doctors told him he shouldn't sing that night. He says he doesn't know what's going to come out when he sings but "I couldn't just stay on the bus".

Pretty sure the YT channel where I used to listen to the show was run by Chris Buck, a guitarist well worth checking out. His channel was a goldmine of GNR rarities, demos, live shows etc. Sadly the channel is long gone of course.

I miss that Axl description of the incident being on YT.

Sure I've got a download of it somewhere. For the benefit of those that haven't heard it what makes it all the better is that it's in the middle of a blues jam, and Axl fits the story around the music perfectly.

To this day, me and the wife use a couple of quotes from Axl's story as in jokes. "Typical *insert job* mentality" whenever we encounter anyone over officious and enjoying the small amount of power that their job gives them. And when our young daughter has a really bad tantrum and starts swinging punches at us resulting in us having to restrain her, afterwards we'll impersonate her behind her back using the line "I wasn't even fighting and it took five fucking assholes to hold me down."

  3. I was listening to the bass track from My Michelle today - presumably taken from the Blu Ray - and noticed there's a synth line for about 20 seconds that comes in at 2 mins 28. It's not loud enough to be heard in the full song (at least to my ears anyway).

Made me wonder what else people had found that's buried in the AFD mix but can now be heard thanks to the Blu Ray?

  4. Pretty sure this is the wrong thread, but thought it worth mentioning without being worth it's on thread.

Axl was just on BBC radio 5 live. It was during their coverage of the boxing and was very brief - he only said a couple of sentences about the boxing.

He's with Mickey Rourke who is very pleased Axl got him great seats. Axl says he's a big Wilder fan and that he's been all over this fight since it was announced.

Was pretty weird hearing him come on the radio as I listened to it half-asleep at 4:20 am!

I love hearing the isolated tracks from songs, I don't know why, it is like a fetish or something! Sounds like there was some sort of edit in the first chorus and I didn't know the backing ended with "Just a little patience is all we need".

    Anyone know of any more?

Yeah I love isolated tracks too. I think the only ones previously on YouTube are WTTJ and SFTD.

Isn't there something in the boxset that should allow more isolated tracks to be sourced?

Would love to hear all the isolated bass tracks, especially RQ.

  6. Laptop bust and on a crappy phone so can't dig out the one I'm thinking of.

Axl is pissed of as a parking attendant hadnt believed he was really the singer and it caused problems getting in to the venue. The first sign of something being up is during an especially passionate ISE when he changes the lyrics to "but yknow parking attendant... You can FUCK OFF" whilst raising his middle finger and leaning so far back he could actually snap in two.

Later in the show he goes in to more detail about how there was some sort of problem parking and it ends with Axl  using his standard dumb authority figure impersonation voice "Gee I guess you really are the singer".

    Anyone able to post it?

OK, so it looks like me and the wife might be making the effort to travel to the London gig but there’s a problem (you might say a Problem Child). We’re going to have to travel with our baby daughter and leave her in a nearby hotel with one of her grandparents. It’ll be the first time we’ve both left her of an evening so we need to plan things with military precision.

Can someone let me know what time they’re due to go on? On the resale sites it says 16:00 but I’m guessing that’s when the doors open, and I’m hoping they’ll be on much later otherwise there’s just no way we’ll be able to make things work

Sorry for the self-bump. Really need to get an answer to this question and I’m getting nowhere.

Trying to figure out if they will definitely go on after 8pm. If they go on earlier than that it could mean that we won’t be able to make it as the baby is a nightmare to get to sleep and will only go sleep if we’re there.  The whole thing’s going to cost us in the region of £500 and I don’t want to shell out if there’s a chance we’re going to miss some of it.

All I’ve been able to find out is that gates open at 17:00 and curfew is 22:30, but I don't know how close to the curfew they would look to finish the show.

Thanks in advance for any help!

  9. Was really looking forward to this and was hoping it would be the definitive Guns documentary, but in the end it was a bit of a let-down.

Obviously it was amazing to see all the unseen footage. Have listened to Street Scene a number of times, so to finally see Axl going off on the crowd at the end was brilliant. Frustrating that there must be so much more footage like that but we’ll never get to see it.

The chronology was a complete mess. Might be confused but pretty sure they were talking about being in NY when Axl  fucked Adrianna and then the next minute they were talking about how they wrote SCOM and Zutaut felt they were then ready to record an album. At another point text came up on the screen saying Use Your Illusion Tour and it cut to footage from Giants Stadium in ’88. There were countless oddities with the chronology like that.

Then there were some strange omissions. I don’t think Dizzy was mentioned once. Personally I would be happy if Dizzy was never a part of Guns N’ Roses history, but I think he needs to be mentioned if only as a way of highlighting the way the music evolved and divisions in the band grew. Also, November Rain and Paradise City were barely mentioned , nor were the epic videos.

I think the documentary suffered from being overly reliant on Marc and Zutaut as the people telling the story. It seemed like there were occasional contributions from others but the vast majority of contributions came from Marc and Tom. Would’ve been much better if they’d got some different perspectives from the likes of Alan Niven, Michelle Young, Doug Goldstein etc. This probably wasn’t helped by the fact that as a Guns N’ Roses fanatic I’ve read pretty much every post by Marc in Canter Banter, so there was next to nothing he said that I hadn’t already heard.

I did enjoy Matt explaining that after escaping St Louis Axl was still wearing “the skirt” but then I remembered Axl wasn’t wearing a kilt when he dived in to the crowd so that was probably an embellishment.

So overall, quite disappointing but I’ll still watch it again tomorrow to see all the footage!

  10. I read a quote (it may even have been in Marc’s book) where Tom Zutaut said that it was a very deliberate move to not have SCOM near the start.

He said he didn’t want it being the first thing Geffen execs heard as he was concerned that it would then all be about SCOM when he felt that ISE, Nightrain etc. said more about what the band was all about.

Zutaut reckoned he told someone else at the label there was a song on the album that was guaranteed to be a hit all over the world but he didn’t tell him which one, and his colleague never made it as far as SCOM when listening to the album!
