  1. I saw this post in a recent thread...

I think the best thing for GNR to do now is record a live album/DVD, or throw one together using what was recorded in 09-10.

The Chinese Democracy tracks are all wayyyyyy better live than they are on the album.

It made me wonder what y'alls opinion were on which versions of songs off of CD were better, the studio recorded or live versions.

Personally, I don't think Axl has perfected a single song live off of CD. (Like he has with other songs/albums anyway)

I don't think he will ever be able to because CD was such a studio album, such a highly mixed and edited album.

His voice changes a lot in live performances and gets very out of key, Street of Dreams and Prostitute are good examples of this. I haven't liked the beginning of one live rendition of Street of Dreams. (By beginning I mean "All the love in the world couldn't save you, all the innocence inside, you know I tried so hard to make you, to make you change your mind") Although to his credit, a lot of performances of Street of Dreams/The Blues are really good, as soon as that beginning part is out of the way.

His voice is awful when he is doing Prostitute live, and TWAT isn't all that pretty either.

Scraped, Shackler's Revenge and Riad really are more studio songs, very hard to get those sounding all that good live. For that reason I definitely prefer the album versions over the live versions.

If the World, Sorry, I.R.S., and Catcher in the Rye sound alright, not fantastic, not horrible, but I still prefer the album versions.

Chinese Democracy, Better, This I Love and Madagascar on the other hand, sound fantastic live. While some versions are better than others, I definitely find myself listening to live versions of these songs more than any other song off of CD because they sound so good.

Anyway, enough of my ranting, these are just my thoughts. I'd be interested in hearing y'alls.

  2. That would be so kick ass...it would let casual fans know they are still preforming and might get them or new fans into GN'R more. With it being on YouTube, the possibilities really are endless.

But...unfortunately, this is all a "what if" kind of situation. I highly doubt Axl will promote a new album, let alone RIR.

  3. Why throw shit at the band you paid to see? And expect them to keep playing?

    BAM! Thank you!

This thread just feels like it is going in circles. For fuck's sake people. Don't throw shit. AND, "if you see somebody, beside you, throwing something, beat the fucking shit out of them."

I get it, Axl shouldn't show up late, and while there is no reason for him to be there late, there's also no need for a bunch of fucktards to throw things.

  4. Kerrang's pretty bad nowadays, not much different to NME. Metal Hammer and Classic Rock Magazine are far better in my opinion. I also don't get how people think Myles is better than Axl, I mean I was AMAZED at Download last year when he was with Slash but then I saw Guns live and the Slash shows I've seen since pale in comparison. Axl is the best frontman around, no one comes close.

I'm confused as to how in the fuck there is even a comparison between Myles and Axl. There isn't and there never will be. Myles doesn't even come close.

  5. You're saying that 'cause you've heard your share of Paradise City... For 'normal' fans going to a GnR concert, they expect a big party at the end, and Paradise City's GnR's Rock And Roll All Nite... it's got the confetti thing goin' on, the crazy solos, Axl runnin' around, y' know... it's a hell of a closer. Coma would be perfect for a "GnR Fanclub" concert with fans with a much deeper song knowledge. For the general audience, Paradise City is perfect.

    This.

    Just yes.

  6. Why add anybody else? Nothing wrong with the original lineup. Or the UYI lineup.

Axl, Slash, Duff, Izzy and Steven

Axl, Slash, Duff, Izzy and Matt

Axl, Slash, Duff, Gilby and Matt

    (AND DIZZY)

If any of those lineups were to reunite, I would see no reason to bring in somebody else. Because then it would either be too much, or it would just be the "GN'R Reunion tour with some guy."

  7. ok, so i didn't see the 'only 25 songs' thing before i posted my 65 song list including solos, e.t.c.. so here is another attempt without solos to fit them all, but i couldn't get it below 42. not possible. :xmassrudolph:

thats all the songs i want to hear live from gnr, so i'm happy :xmasssanta:

Your setlist just destroyed any other setlist I've read or heard, ever. LOL

Now that one really is a DREAM!

  8. And apparently Axl was pissed that Izzy negotiated a deal with the record company to do so.

From what I understand Axl didn't really get into that deal or know much about it, other than it was done. I want to say I read somewhere that Axl didn't even want to know what he was getting paid and he was ok with just doing the shows with him.

When Izzy appeared in New York five years ago with Guns it was special moment.

Not only does that make me feel older, but that makes me sad a bit. I enjoyed 2006 so much, all the GN'R shows (with Bach and Izzy), Axl on T.V., Eddie Trunk, etc.

  9. From what I understand the relationship between Axl and Izzy is just fuckin' dandy.

They got together in the mid 90's to do some writing, and in 06' to do some touring.

It's not that Izzy doesn't have pride in himself, or is a sellout or anything like that, it's because Axl and Izzy have been friends for a long time, and musically they are just 'right' together.

  10. Never in my life have I seen a board with such hostility, big heads, small brains, vastly different opinions and people who are just plain fucking stupid. I don't know whether to laugh or be worried.

And for some reason I like it here? :o

Guys it really is plain and simple...throwing things at a performer is plain unacceptable, showing up late (which Axl is prone to do) is no reason to throw things.

I wish Axl would not only come back to these boards, but come to some of y'all in real life to knock some fucking sense into you.

  11. where's the logic in throwing shit at a band or artist that you're paying to see, that you're paying to go to, that you're wasting your time seeing? Plastic bottles, whatever...no big whoop. But glass bottles? Little harder to avoid.

Just as its disrespectful for axl to delay shows for hours, or walk off because of some bullshit reason, its disrespectful for fans to throw shit at the artist who's concert theyre choosing to attend. If the artist sucks and puts on a shitty performance and gets booed off the stage or something, then maybe that's one thing. But to just throw stuff like an ape throwing dookie just because...maybe you should practice some self control.

    This.

Del and sugar, I like you guys, and usually agree 100 % with what you have to say, and although this will probably be the one and only time I even remotely agree with volcano on something

But definitely not that ^ :D

  12. Id say fuck letting them all get their individual solos, and just give them one band jam, where they all take a few minutes to show off what they got. That way they can make room for any new songs they might have up their sleeves. Just my two cents.

Totally. Although aren't all those solos just time fillers so Axl can catch his breath?

    And wardrobe changes of course.

Yeah, I had to run out and change my shirt before I could reply to your post

  14. i think Baz is fucking awesome - a bit hyperactive, but that's what makes him such a good entertainer.

fuck you to the haters. and to the guy who claims to be backstage and thinks he understands Baz's and Axl's relationship - you're an idiot.

    This

I spent a week on tour and never saw anything like this...

...in fact Baz was doing his own thing alot, and when he was not you could tell they are great friends not some puppy as you put it

    N' That ^

I think in a lot of ways Sebastian looks up to Axl but you could tell on that interview with Eddie Trunk how great of friends they were. I think in a lot of ways Baz wants to enjoy whatever time with Axl he has.

  15. Sorry man. Listen to the Eddie Trunk interview and tell me he isn't fucking annoying. His music is alright, tho.

I think Jericho was more annoying in that interview than Baz was. (And I'm a big ass fan of Jericho!)

First and foremost, I love his music.

Second, I think Sebas-t-ee-in, is absolutely hilarious and I loved Super Group, I Married Sebastian Bach, and anything else he has done for/with VH1. (I also loved Gone Country 2)

His voice is very unique, and is kinda funny to listen to and it first I got real annoyed with it...but I got around to liking it.

I find Sebastian in no way, shape or form annoying, especially on Eddie Trunk's show in May of 06.

  16. I wish Axl would drop the name. As much as I like the current line-up of the band, it's fuckin embarrassing when you hear everyday people who aren't fans and only know the original songs chatting shit. It would be so much easier if he did what Slash et al did with Velvet Revolver. Kick ass band, everyone knows the history and everyone respects it's a new band at the same time.

There are ways of keeping the GN'R name and legacy alive without continual member transplants. But who am I to question it.

You see, but Axl wouldn't have as much success that way.

I'd say the majority of the world would be able to identify Slash before Axl. Slash promotes himself like crazy as well and is always in the press, that is why his band was so big.

Axl doesn't want to promote jack diddly shit, and doesn't want to go out of his way when he is putting out his life's work. Axl keeping the GN'R is the best thing for him and he feels to be, and is rightfully entitled to the name legally and consciously.
