  1. Alter Bridge and California Breed rocked Detroit tonight! Awesome gig

:headbang: I'm going 3 times this week! can't wait! did you get there in time to see Like A Storm? love those guys! I was so excited when AB added them for my shows!

Looking forward to Friday's show. Has Lover made it's way into the setlist yet?

They've only played it four times even since the album came out.

Here's the set from what I've read in their Detroit show. I'll put it in spoilers in case you don't want to see spoilers.

    Addicted to Pain

    Come to Life

    Cry of Achilles

    Brand New Start

    Ghost of Days Gone By

    Fortress

    Ties That Bind

    Waters Rising

    Farther Than the Sun

    Broken Wings

    Metalingus

    White Knuckles

    Blackbird

    Wonderful Life/Watch Over You

    (Myles solo acoustic)

    Isolation

    Encore:

    Open Your Eyes

    Rise Today

Cool, thanks. Similar to when I saw them in NYC.

How'd you like the show on Friday?

  3. The other guys are not in Oz so there's no other way than that fn' backing track lol

Am not saying it's his fault but its not going to go down well, he'd be better of staying home I reckon. This could of done great things for Slash over here if the whole band played say World On Fire, Bent To Fly and Paradise City

How do you think this would go down in America playing too a backing track at the NFL super bowl ?

It happens at the Super Bowl all the time.. The Chilli Peppers just did it.

So I put the album down after listening to it for a couple weeks. For those two weeks I was intentionally listening to it and getting to know the album.

Now the songs are stuck in my head and I am just putting the album on every time I get in the car. I can't even let myself put it down.. This didn't happen with AL.

Unholy is my track of the day.. What is that one about anyway?

this actually sounds different from the super bowl. sounds like here his guitar will be live, but the rest of the band will be recorded whereas it seems as if the super bowl has the instruments 100% prerecorded.

  4. If Izzy replaced Frank Sidoris and handled songwriting duties this band could be fucking amazing.

Boom, there you go. Would be awesome.

If Izzy had to work with a frontman again, Myles would be as easy as it gets...

For all I care, he could just co-write the rhythm guitar and let frankie tour.

Frankie doesn't have anything to do with the writing as it is. Frankie wasn't brought in until after the writing/recording process for AL (Myles did rhythm guitars for that) and on WOF the guitars were all Slash.

  5. After listening to Fortress by Alter Bridge, WOF seems a bit desperate to fit in. Slash has done a lot of good stuff but he's yet to find his true voice outside of GNR. There's definitely a core but the soul is coming from other places, like Scott or Myles. But yeah you listen to Fortress and it's not confusing, like what is this? it just makes sense. WOF is a bit odd, but still cool.

The "like what is this?" thing is caused by the way this album was constructed. You know... Slash sending out ideas to Myles and how the whole band bends to fit Slash's influences and ideas. His guitar is the lead singer. Myles is trying to be himself when he can.

I just started listening to Fortress as a non-AB guy and it sounds super cohesive and pretty damn awesome. I kinda wrote off Mark Tremonti due to Creed but wow... Cry of Achilles is fucking cool! And that sort of soaring vocal style is really where Myles shines.

I feel like that's a big obstacle AB has faced in the US and why Europe took to them so quickly. With the sigma Creed has, AB gets written off by those who don't like (to put it nicely) Creed when people hear that 3/4 of AB are from Creed. Reality is, AB are nothing like Creed stylistically. I was never a Creed fan, but fell in love with AB from the first listen through One Day Remains.

  6. I can't help but wonder if US sales would've been higher without the classic rock fan pack. those are UK sales. how many people bought that that aren't buying a US copy? I bought that, and itunes and a regular copy from best buy (not with the tshirt), but I'm sure there are plenty that bought the fan pack that aren't buying it domestically. reality is, it probably isn't significant enough to have really affected first week sales, but it could be a consideration.

  7. Going to three Tower Of Power shows next weekend in Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island. RI will be my 25th time seeing Tower.

I didn't know that they're playing the Durham Fair. that's kinda cool. too bad I won't be able to go. I work until 8:30 and my co-worker is already out.

  8. Ok I'll have a look. Someone posted the promo clip on here. This is Australia and we are ahead of America

Alter Bridge is playing on the 4th, too (what would be the 5th there). I doubt it's a performance and if it is it's solo guitar. I think I heard Slash say some about him going down that way to promote the album.

  9. Whatever link is SiriusXM Octane Ch.37. I don't know where it is. You may have to be a subscriber to listen to it.

You do. Not only a subscriber but have the online subscription if you want to listen online. I've had the subscription for my car for about 5 years and had been told I could listen online as part of my subscription. Suddenly around the time you're a lie came out I couldn't log in and was told I didn't have an online subscription when I called to question.

  10. Congrats and enjoy to those who got in. Kinda annoyed. Just looked through my Sirius emails and discovered I got an email invite for a Black Lips subscriber exclusive at Irving plaza on 9/30... On Monday! If I got bypassed for Slash because I was invited to that 2 days earlier I'm not happy.

  11. what first come first serve link?! I'm a subscriber and in the octane air force and got not emails about this. I liked octane on fb and all I've seen so far is what was posted here about sending the email (which I did).

Got it last night at 6:30:22pm. Bottom of the email (clipped in the pic below) says it was sent to 278,000 subscribers in New York City.

    slash_09_15_14-a_zpsbd49f3b3.jpg

So they must've decided I'm not close enough to NYC to send me the email even though from home in CT I'm only a 90min train ride in... And I'd actually be coming from work which is even closer. That pisses me off....

  12. I won thru sirius xm e mail. I just got my conformation for the guest list

This. We hit the first-come, first-serve link right at 8 last night and got tix.

They send offers to several invite-only events every year; almost makes up for their super-compressed sound quality and the hassle of calling them every year to renegotiate a lower price. Looking forward to Monday night.

  13. I just looked on best buy and they have the black classic available to ship and the silver isn't available to ship, but does seem to be available in a bunch of stores. I see the silver available in some stores in NYC. give it a search and have your friend check there when they're in the city.

ignore the judgments.... I have a 5-6yr old classic that I love. when this one bites the dust I'm getting a new ipod without a doubt. been in debate about a classic (more space for the money) or a touch (possibly use apps more on that and less on my iphone which I also love). sounds like I may have to go for the touch if I don't get a classic soon.

  14. Alterbridge at the Starland Ballrom 10/10

I don't usually get excited about openers, but SO excited about the second opener they just added, Like A Storm! I discovered them when they opened for AB on the ABIII tour and they're awesome! They're opening on all 3 northeast dates I'm going to and I'm more excited than I already was!!

Aren't California Breed opening as well; their album is really good

they are. I haven't heard any of their stuff yet. look forward to seeing them, though. kinda bummed that Jason Bonham left the band, though. was looking forward to seeing him and Glenn. i'm sure they'll still be really good. especially Glenn.

  16. I like the others but does anyone else get an 'emo-y' vibe from some of the parts of the other songs? An example would be in the chorus of world on fire, where Todd comes in with the higher 'world on fire'. Does my head in. Same with 'I was running with the order' in 30 years to life. These where not present in Apocalyptic love.

For me personally I disagree. I wouldn't catorgize it as emo, but maybe thats what it is. I don't know how I'd catagorize it, I just know I enjoy it.

And Todd's backing vocals have been a staple (good or bad) since Slash's debut. A friend informed me years ago that the high vocals on Back From Cali are actually Todd. And songs like One Last Thrill on Apocalyptic Love definitely had Todd singing similarly high vocals similar to World On Fire. I don't see anything about his singing that has changed since he's joined Slash and I've always enjoyed his contributions. In fact, his backing vocals on World On Fire are in the top 2 or 3 things I love in that song.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Todd doesn't appear at all on the Slash album, so that's not him on Back From Cali, its all Myles.

He only joined up with Slash after the album was complete, to tour behind it as far as I know...

edit: never mind. I misread the post.

you're right. Todd isn't on the Slash album, so unless it's the live version of Back From Cali is what's being referred to, then they're wrong. live I do believe Todd takes the high harmony.

  17. Alessandro Cortini is a sexy mofo.

Interesting bit of info about Alessandro unrelated to NIN, but kind of comes back around to GNR. Back around 2001 (2000 until the band broke up in 2002 to be specific according to wiki) he was a touring rhythm guitarist for The Mayfield Four. And MF4 is? That would be Myles Kennedy's band prior to Alter Bridge in which he was lead vocalist, lead guitarist and songwriter. I think I heard that Myles went to a NIN show in the last year or so to see Alessandro.

  18. I have a feeling they'll end up cancelling, but if they do choose to replace him for some of the tour, Brent would do a fantastic job filling in. The shows are far enough apart (not every night, or in many cases, not even every other night) that I don't think it'd be too much for him.

Question is, is Brent familiar enough with their material to be able to play a full set?

I think Adler would be an awesome replacement, actually. I'd love to see that.

fair question, but even if he isn't, he's a phenomenal musician. he could pick it up.

Brent is capable enough to pull that shit off. That, and much more imo.

For future shows, I believe it too. But for anything in the near future? I doubt it.

Does Aerosmith follow the same setlist every night? Or do they make it up on the spot?

don't forget that you're talking about the guy who when Todd had to fly home for his detached retina, stepped in and within 24 hours played the entire 2 hour set on bass. the drummer played the 2hr set on bass in a matter of hours and didn't miss a step. the vids are on youtube (I'm trying to remember where the shows were. I want to say Russia). if he can do that, he can pick up Aerosmith's set on drums within a couple of days.

    100% agreed
