  1. Axl lip syn, give me a fn break! I guess whatever makes people talk trash.

I wasn't trying to talk trash. It was mentioned in the Townsville thread, so I kept some attention to it.

Bumblerose is right though, the sound was definately off at the start, which isn't really suitable for songs like CD and WTTJ. I didnt have problem with Korn fans, more the casual older GNR fan that took too much alcohol.

I wasnt referring to you, I have heard this before and this week their was an article on antimusic about this.

And regardless,it's absolute and total Bullshit to anyone who has seen GNR live, fucking rumor starters!

  2. Everything's a fight with him. Encouraging the "fans to fight the good fight".

    Fighting for what exactly?

A cover band milking people outta their cash so we could get a half-assed album and a tour which features zero of the main players.

    Zero press or interviews.

AFD jukebox on repeat every night of the tour.

    Fuck it.

We're supporting Axl after everyone abandoned him as he has put together the best possible band so he can play shows and make music that otherwise would never happen.

Why do you have to be such a prick?

Nobody abandoned him. He forced people away. He's a hermit ya dig? I'm being a prick because GNR meant so much to me growing up and I will forever protest Axl using the name by himself when there is no way in hell he could've achieved that much success on his own or with this current bunch.

Don't dissect the message he sent out, it was a simple thank you to the FANS not the haters.

Xactly, this seems to be a bit difficult for evergreen to comprehend,I'm on GNR's side!

    I'm on my side.

congrats on that vital piece of information!

  3. also in today's market I think you overestemate the value of videos to

promo a song/Album, a tour DVD would go over much better.

Seemed to work pretty well for Eminem.

Casting Megan Fox in his video was a brilliant move.

Not an eminem fan, don't keep track of his rap thang, It bores me, that is why I listen to GNR, the gigs have been proshot, I'd rather have a DVD than a video, just a thought. :D

Em must be a big mygnr fan.

    HA!! Nice one!! :lol::lol:

  6. And this is the reason there'll be no guns studio release for the forseeable :(

Just curious: What was the reason from 1994-2008?

more legal shit I half expect

    Well, let's see:

1993-1995/1996= Axl is in court against Steven (1993), Gilby (1994), Stephanie Seymour (1993-1994?), Erin (1994-1995/1996)

1994-1995= Relationship with Slash disintegrating, no replacement able to be found for Gilby which pleases Slash. Axl is stalked by Karen MacNeil for the first time in 1995. She comes into his house, claiming she has been psychically communicating with him. Shannon Hoon dies of overdose.

1996- Axl's mother dies. Slash leaves Guns officially, halting all work on the new material and causing it to have to be scrapped. They had recorded 7 songs at this point, though Slash claims in the Summer of 1996 that between him and Axl there have been 80 songs written, which are mostly Axl's material according to Slash. Wildfires nip at Axl's house.

1997- West Arkeen dies. The search for Slash's replacement happens and seems to be settled in August 1997, when Robin is officially signed, though he has been working with the band since January 1997. Axl is described as seeming sad, "like a beaten dog." Matt is fired in April 1997, and Chris Vrenna is first hired to replace him. Vrenna leaves.

Just as Robin officially joins the band, Duff leaves in August 1997, causing him to need to be replaced. Duff is begged to stay by the record company. Oh My God is written musically by Dizzy and Paul Huge this year.

1998- As of February, the band has not recorded yet, according to Doug Goldstein. Duff's slot in the band remains open if he wants to rejoin as of February. A few months later, the search for Duff replacement ensues. Billy Howerdel works with the band in this period and introduces Axl to Chris Pitman. They work on mostly guitar parts as well as adding modern touches to the band. Howerdel introduces Axl to the sound of the band Lusk, which Axl loves.

Axl is arrested. At some point in the year, Tommy joins the band, as does Josh Freese. The band begins writing, and recording most of the Chinese D material we have now at Rumbo in mid 1998, first with Mike Clink producing, then later Steve Lilywihite, Jay Baumgardner, Robbie Jacobs, Mark Bell and Youth all take turns acting as producer. Axl writes Madagascar in 1998. This I Love (which had been recorded in 1992 while on tour) is planned to be released on the Field of Dreams soundtrack, but is rejected by the director of the film. So, CD has only just started to be written in 1998.

Axl plans on re-recording the AFD songs with this new band (composed of Axl, Robin, Paul, Billy Howerdel, Tommy, Josh, Dizzy and Chris). Youth dissuades Axl from following that idea. Critter is recruited by Youth to help engineer the record. According to Youth, he only worked with Axl four or five times and got Axl to sing again--Apparently Axl hadn't sang a note in about 18 months. Youth feels Axl felt "stuck" and didn't know how to proceed as far as CD.

Axl begins working on Prostitute around this time, according to Spin Magazine. However, Youth claims that at this point in time, there are no solid songs--Just sketches and ideas.

"He had some brilliant ideas, but they really were just sketches. He really wanted to leave the past behind and make a hugely ambitious album, like Led Zeppelin's Physical Grafitti crossed with Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon." (Youth, The Times, 03/18/05)

"'They sold millions of records in a few years,' says the producer. 'He had a big crew of people in the studio... and I think that kind of pressure chokes creativity.'" (Youth, Spin, 07/99)

Axl decides a more intimate setting would help, and so the band move from Rumbo to a studio set up in his house. Around June or July 1998, Madagascar begins to slowly be recorded.

At this point, according to a former engineer, the song Oklahoma is already fully writtern, as well as Ides of March, which came from a drum loop idea.

Youth tries to get Axl into the studio, but Axl tells Youth he is "pushing (him) too fast." Youth quits as producer not long after.

"Axl was deeply unhappy. I sensed he was clinically depressed because he only worked from 9pm to 9am. He was living a hermit lifestyle. In the end, he told me he wasn't ready. He was trying to get to some spiritual level that would make him happy." (Youth, The Times, 03/18/05)

Around September 1998, Sean Beaven is hired as the producer; Plans are made for the band to begin recording in November 1998 and tour the record throughout the summer of 1999. Apparently, a record did exist by this point, according to a former Geffen A&R man:

"The Robin Finck/Josh Freese/Tommy Stinson/Billy Howerdel/Dizzy Reed version of the album that existed in 1998 was pretty incredible. It still sounded like GNR but there were elements of Zeppelin, Nine Inch Nails and Pink Floyd mixed in. The record just needed a lead vocal and a mix. [...] If Axl had recorded vocals, it would have been an absolutely contemporary record in 1999." (James Barber, Poptones, 10/16/05)

    " (James Barber, Poptones, 10/16/05)

"The time I was on [the songs], they were very industrial sounding with the old GN'R elements on top. Axl had some vocal ideas down, but not many." (Dave Dominguez, enginer who worked with the band in 1998 talking in 2004)

1999- "Oh My God" is recorded and released. Robin abruptly quits, causing his contributions to be re-evaluated. Brian May plays with the band in December and records a few songs. He claims Axl has two records worth just of vocals as of this time. Around this time, an industrial meets prog rock flavored Chinese D is apparently rejected by the record company.

2000- Axl plays the songs IRS, Catcher in the Rye, TWAT, Oklahoma and Chinese Democracy for Rolling Stone magazine.

can't believe rec company rejected a record in 99. Then we had to wait a decade to get one. Prostitute is interesting one as it start in 98 but wasnt complete til 2004. In the end I think they got there with the record but we'll never know what really went on. that's prob why I'll be onsessed with it forever.

can't believe rec comp rejected an album in 99.

I think with Azoff, he's saying it's Axl's fault, he didnt do promo, appearances etc.

Axl appeared to do nothing (promo-wise). There were a couple of TV ad's..

Where they really f-cked up, was in not releasing video's with singles.

GNR was not given the "monumental 3-cover" promotion they were promised, I'm sure Best Buy did their best but a cardboard stand in the middle of their gadgets isn't momumental promotion, hell the booklet was not even the approved version, also in today's market I think you overestemate the value of videos to

promo a song/Album, a tour DVD would go over much better.

Nice synopsis! (golf clap) those are only the issues the public knows about, I'm quite sure there are more at hand that would've hindered creativity

  8. So since he's aware of that poll, he's aware (and fine with it, apparently) that they called him a "cornrowed croaking caricature" of his past self? :tongue2:

I think it is more like he cares what the fans think, not the writer of the article on him. He was happy to see the people picked him over others, that is my take anyway

That was my conjecture as well Guns guy, but you know as well as I do that some nimrod simply has to put in a negative word to try and fuck up this thread!!

I don't defend GNR for any rewards or as the non-mod would say "party passes" I defend them from the people here who are simply here to tear them down. Good Going Guns Guy

    :D

  9. My ma' ran a race track. They had a curfew. 11pm. Locals were always chill and never even peeped, they knew what they were in for, however when races were going into 1am -- they started getting a little upset. So just because they lived near the race track, we didn't have to respect them at all?

+1 Exactly. Guns showed up over an hour late. If they showed up ON TIME(which isn't in Axl's vocabulary) there wouldn't be a problem. Naturally though gunsnguy is going to defend this.

The entire show was late from the get go so yes I will defend it...

As will I, if anyone hasn't learned by now that GNR plays by GNR rules, and go onstage when prepared to put on the best show possible, regardless of arbitrary rules and silly attempted time restraints, then just maybe you may wanna go see a group that is Anal-retentive about all important "Time" over quality of performance, some people will bitch about any and everything,if it weren't the time,it would be the setlist,or some other percieved wrong,I know by now what to expect,it is what it is,They put on a killer show

and are totally worth waiting on,even if the Gig doesn't start until 2am, I haven't had a fucking curfew in many moons, I don't get the whining over time, a bit ridiculous after all these years, it's to be expected,if it's past your bedtime, don't go,I'd rather see GNR put on a smoking set at 2am,than see some other band adhere vehemently to a imposed time schedule, but I'm a GNR fan, and fully realize that moaning on a online forum is 1.) Not gonna change anything in GNR land, and 2.) It's not like it's a newly established practice,Get over it or get used to it,nobody is holding a gun to your head, forcing you to follow GNR, go "rock out" with Bieber, I'm sticking by Guns N' Roses!

let the hating, baiting and berating ensue, won't change my stance or my opinion,so give it your best shot

  10. I agree to an extent but you never read negative press about Slash so IMHO it really relates to Axl's relationship with the press...If he had not treated them so badly in the past and continue to refuse to talk to them I believe they would write more postive stories about him. By not talking to the press, and giving them his thoughts and his side of the story, they will print any rumour they get as that is all they have....

Axl has nobody to blame but himself for the bad press related to ChiDem and the recent tour. Part of it is related to his negative relationship with the press but waiting 14 years to release ChiDem then refusing to do interviews the press lost interest and NuGnR became yesterdays news. Maybe I am wrong but I think if Axl had kept a stable lineup and released 3-4 albums of new material this past 14 years I think people would be less inclined to focus on the old band when thinking about GnR. His lack of activitiy made it easy to compare NuGnR/ChiDem to GnR/AFD and that is a tough legacy to overcome..............

I am not saying any of this is fair but Axl hepled create this situation........

I agree it's about the relationship. If Slash's relationship had been bad, then when he had filed for divorce the press would have inflated the whole story with any fight ever recorded (including his arrest some years ago) and they would include it in every story related or unrelated. It would show how fickle the press is if Axl gave one good interview that everyone could report on, where he was up and positive. Suddenly the media would ease up. Not because it was correct, but because Axl kissed their asses. Axl may have helped to create the negative portrayal in the press, but the press helped to create it too. And because I know that Axl cannot win, I support him not speaking to the press.

The noncompliance with the press, was started by the press, writing untruths, and taking statements out of context, if anyone here remembers the Donington gig where 2 people were trampled, some of the press actually blamed GNR for this, when nothing could be further from the truth,Then you have "Get in the ring" directed at the shitty journalism that was being passed off as truth, This has been a long-running grudge match and it's not a recent development,Why in the hell would you play ball with unscrupulous people who are not reliable and not accountable? Not to pick at a scab, but slash has sucked up to them; gone on innumerable shows, given countless interviews, and still his album was not very successful,so this obviously isn't working for him, although he isn't mangled as much by the media,he is overexposed and his interviews don't warrant the same reaction from the public as someone who basically refuses to talk to them;and on the rare occasion when something is said

it is more widely sought after, and then is slammed for being direct, and to the point of the matter, who prefers to visit GNR forums to talk, receiving no monetary benefit from such, there are two basic choices you can cooperate with the press, answering their innane questions repeatedly, while sneaking in a passive-aggressive punch every now and then,or you can view the press as an enemy, which for the most part they are,and expressing your views directly regardless of the consequences,or the bloodbath that will ensue undoubtedly,I prefer the latter, refusing to speak to the draconian institute of the press, refusing to play their blackmail games, and to hold onto your integrity no matter the price,Back on topic this is between the legal firms and their respective clients, and nothing the journalists or individuals write on this forum or in the media will change that,When a company intentionally strays outside the perameters that were set, they should expect a reaction, and the inevitable legal action, this is how the American justice system is set up,and how it operates when negotiations fail, and no agreement can be reached by the parties involved,Activision blatantly went for the money, rather than sticking to their agreement, and the lawsuit is not frivolous, even if it is not popular.

If he does not want to meet the press halfway then Axl has no right to bitch and whine that he is mistreated by them...As long as he refuses to speak to them they will write negative shit about him and take the word of others as too what is the truth. what you reap is what you sow.........

Seeing as you are a card carrying Slash hater I won't bother wasting my time answering your slam as I know by now you have no objectivity on anything Slash related.......

As I stated before, the media has always been negative, this is not a new development,an open enemy is no threat because you know they are going for sensationalism over truth, and you don't break bread with the enemy, but to call out the press as hostile is not "bitching and whining" it is stating a fact, however unpleasant, that said I don't "hate" Slash but I do hate what he has become, and how he has compromised himself to look good for his own agenda,at any cost,Back on topic,This is a court case,a legal action,I don't see

the need to bash and devalue anyone,or each other over this,it doesn't affect anyone except those actually involved, and 30 pages of comments won't change a thing, nor will all the demeaning commentary.

  11. I have no idea so I will speak outta my ass right now. Alot of singers do not talk much before shows coming up, while they may talk for sure having to talk for hours straight can strain their voice. I am sure most Gunners would rather he perform a top notch show then have a major problem.

I believe the above theory in terms of Axl's no-show at organized band/fan gatherings is highly unlikely to be honest. Especially considering Axl appears to be quite a fan of Cuban cigars (which I assume harm the vocal area more than dialogue). Maybe "greeting" sessions just aren't Axl's "thing", it could be that he prefers the spontaneous nature of just coming across fans outside the venue after the show. Which has the been the scenario at numerous dates.

    You could be right

about cigars, most people don't inhale then btw

Not unless vomiting out a lung is your idea of a good time

  12. 13. If he did shit like that to you would you write positive things about him??? I think not.........When you treat the press like shit they are going to write negative shit about you, justified or not.

So the media is on par with taxes (as in they aren't the most attractive things but they have to be dealt with)? It's quite clear that Axl doesn't get the whole journalist business (using your own position to write about someone else's).Therefore why is it so essential that he engages with something he has no empathy for? If anything he preserves his own integrity as opposed to selling out just to further his own agenda. I'm sure Slash has an equal feeling of animosity towards the media yet he continues to play ball with them. That's his choice. Refusing media personnel interviews etc. isn't a legitimate reason to portray that somebody or something inaccurately. The media is supposed to be the unbound telling of truth (regardless of personal vendetta).

Very true, that is the premise, but name me ten journlists that write the truth, the media is like a pack of jackals, they smell blood and herd in for the killl;feasting on garbage, but none of the shit they write ,nor this 30 page collection of clusterfucked posts will have any effect on the Activision lawsuit,A company defaults on an agreement, they get sued,so just maybe they will hesitate to do it again,Fact.

  14. The amount of Axl nut-swinging by 2 people here in this thread in particular is absolutely insane... Seriously that kind of fan devotion and defense is downright scary..

Funny how all of Axl's bitching about litigation that he seems more then willing to want to go after this. Not to mention the Irving Azoff case, and the Dr Pepper thing...

Please don't talk that way about a kid who was barely born when Slash was in Guns or a guy who (allegedly) posted on here as a teenage girl. They are just as big of fans as anyone else and I'm sure Axl would be proud that they are his biggest supporters!

See, This kind of comment isn't needed nor warranted, We know you are trying to be clever and take a dig at someone you obviously have personal problems with, but in actuality it's Your problem,so deal with it, I also do not get the people that are saying "yeah, Axl's got a case, but he ought to forget about it" What the hell kind of logic is this? That is 4 shades of stupid, Activision chose to mislead and decieve,so they should suffer the consequences and pay the piper for their wrongful actions, It needs to be dealt with and sorted out as soon as possible, considering the time lapse from when this was first brought up and now,it seems a considerable amount of thought and collection of evidence/facts has been invested,It's not frivolous, and it's a valid complaint.

Very true. He has every right to sue, and the actions of Activision were despicable.

However that still does not change the fact that Axl sueing Activision is going to further ruin his image towards the public, as we've already seen by all the comments that have been made on websites outside of this forum.

Sometimes, for the better, you have to let these things go. Even by principle, it might not be worth it in the long run.

No, I don't think random snarky remarks made by some coward behind a keyboard makes a shit of difference to differentiate between right and wrong,

What Activision did was wrong ergo: they should be punished legally, whether the "internet-opinionated-self-aggrandizing-surly mob on the internet" agree or not, people seem to love to hate, and that only reveals that they have issues, not everyone is a fan-puppet,and they follow their own

heart/instincts,Don't really think half of the complainers and whiners actually know what happened, and think the other half are kids trying for attention, Public opinion is fickle at best, and shouldn't determine the way you choose to live your life,or the business decisions you make,if they weren't bitching about the lawsuit, they would find something else to bitch about so fuck em'.

  16. The public perception is that Axl is a washed-up has been, who's jealous of Slash.

Pretty much everybody I know, myself included, feels this way.

Unfortunately many people are incapable of Discussing the Activision Case without reverting to the Axl vs. Slash schtick, The Activision case is all about a company, defaulting and lying about what they were planning to do, if a company was wrongly exploiting your property, you wouldn't take action? I would, simply because my sense of right and wrong would impel me to legally stop this company's deceptive, despicable practices.

  17. You can't let it slide, it just snowballs to point where Adler will be on the cover of CD 2. There's a line and the makers of Pitfall crossed it.

Exactly the intent for filing lawsuit, Activision screwed the Pooch on this, and well deserve to be sued, they blatantly broke numerous agreements.

  18. I applaud your effort.

At least you took the time to explain your arguements, unlike so many here, and to those who posted above me, SUCK A DICK......Geezuz!!

Only Axl Rose could single-handedly, turn his fanbase against each other. **shakes head in disgust**

That is a weird statement then the same can be said for the other band members of Guns past no? Only Axl? nice try...

The only people who hysterically defend their idol and sling mud are the obsessive Axl fans... they even try to make it seem like there's GNR fans who HATE Axl Rose, like theres this two sided war between SLASH FANS and AXL FANS, but really its just other GNR fans responding to their stupidity.

Nobody really hates Axl, a lot of GNR fans just think he's an idiot

That is the biggest pile of BS ever said in this forum. Plenty of people like you, Sunny, BBA, and quite a few others make your seething hate of Axl pretty clear in nearly every post you guys make in this section.

True Statement, and I honestly don't see why they linger around since they expose their obvious hatred in nearly every post I've read, imo it's a total waste of time and cyberspace.

  19. Unless Axl was smart enough to have his demands/requirements written into the contract he signed with Activision, he doesn't stand a chance. If he was naive enough to take somebody's word, well then that's just fucking stupid on Axl's part. He's been in this business for over 20 years now, he's gotta know that most people's word doesn't mean shit in business, it's all about the bottom line....

Something doesn't necessarily have to be written down for it to be contractually binding.

I haven't read the complaint, but if it's anything like the one against Azoff, it will (if nothing else) be a highly entertaining read.

In a way (as much as I love Slash), I really did think that the whole Guitar "Hero" thing went a bit too far. Even though I kinda guiltily enjoyed playing it and seeing Slash on the screen, a part of me kinda thought "...really?" If that's how a fan thinks, then I guess a band member who has a particular idea of a band (one that he's still in) and what he wants it to represent would feel a lot more strongly about it. We trivialise it, but this is Axl's band, his identity. Maybe he doesn't want it to be assosciated with a kinda cheesy animated video game "boss". I do see how he could feel it would detract from their image.

Even if he loses, I get where Axl is coming from with this.

So Do I, it isn't hard to see where Activision crossed the line and brought this upon themselves.
