  1. Wow, people are being reported/warned over criticizing Axl's appearance? Come on now, that's just ridiculous...it's not a matter of "bashing" the band. I don't know about everyone else, but one of the reasons I liked GNR so much back when I first got into them was their bad ass look/attitude. Their music was obviously the main reason, but anyone who thinks it's just as cool to see Axl sing the old hits looking like the stay puft marshmellow man, as it was when he was in shape and running around the stage, well, I guess you're entitled to your own opinion.

Oh, and to use the excuse of "Oh, he's 50, he looks average for his age". I like what the one guy said, we're not paying shit loads of money to watch someone eat nachos...we're paying to see Axl fucking Rose. And I don't know where you live, but most of the 50 year old people I see aren't pudgy like Axl. My dad is 54 and looks 100 times better than Axl.

    Frank

I don't know man...it's funny how opinions can be totally different. I think Frank is the best GNR drummer they ever had :shrugs:

Just listen to that kick ass groove in Brownstone at Rio for example.

    :rofl-lol:

You can't be serious. He's last by a mile. Adler.Brain,Sorum,Josh Freese and even Fred Coury destroy him. You must really be trying to get some party passes by saying that about Frank.

See this is completely bewildering to me...to even pretend that Steven or Matt aren't the best GNR drummers is just beyond my comprehension. THEY ARE GNR. This isn't an NBA team where players are traded and drafted etc. and the new players are better than the old...this is a band, which had founding members (I realize Matt wasn't a founding member but he was around with the original line up). It seems like many people here don't understand the difference between a band, and a sports franchise.

  2. ;) I don't think that he could do this back in '90... Now he could sing much higher than ever...

And I have to admit that i really like Axl voice in '01.

this is one of the greatest performances by Axl in the 06 era. Fucking killer.

  3. These mixes are like like audio placebos... You honestly just listen back to two distinctive sounds. the musical and vocal sides of ol GnR.

I wonder though. If you hadn't followed the release of Chinese Democracy- religiously, and you just thought Slash and Duff were still in the band. What would you think if someone gave you a cd of this guys mixes, and was told that "this in the new record" What the hell would you think when you found out it was nu gnr and velvet revolver... And you listened to ChiDem and VR's albums in their native enviroment... What would you think of the remixes?

I suppose what I'm saying is that it's rather bittersweet listening to these mixes. While I'm a fan of Chinese Democracr and the current line-up, there is no mistaking or denying that Axl and Slash go together like Jack & Coke.

You're right in that it's a somewhat bittersweet feeling....when they play together though, it just sounds so....genuine...even though I know these songs aren't real, it just sounds right to me. I'm glad I found these mixes but it is almost sad...thinking of what could've been, over the past 15 years, had things gone differently...

  4. Yet dates sell out, yet people show up to meet n' greets with Bumble and DJ, yet people buy 5 million copies of Chinese Democracy, Axl's "solo album".

I'll use myself as an example here, since I'm sure a lot of people are similar to me. I discovered GNR around the age of 12, back in '98-'99. I had a patch on my backpack with the old logo that Matt Sorum had on his bass drum from the Illusion tour. A lot of the kids thought it was lame, because at that time, GNR weren't the most popular band to like. Anyways, I read every article, looked at old issues of Kerrang and Spin magazines, learned everything there was to know about the band, rare tracks, etc. When Oh My God came out, my brother and I were excited just to hear Axl's voice and see what he'd been doing for the past 5 years. By no means did we accept this new band as GNR, but beggars cant be choosers. I think of the new GNR as a good rock band, but not at all comparable to the original line up. It's just too disingenuous to consider a real, cool rock band. However, given the chance, I'd love to meet Ashba, Bumblefoot, Stinson, etc. just because they are a part of Axl's band, and that's still cool to me. So obviously I'm going to buy Chinese Democracy, obviously I'm going to shell out whatever money it costs to see them live, but that's because of Axl, not the other members of the band.

  5. Ok let's put it in perspective:

If all the members of U2 would leave expect Bono, and Bono would hire some (unknown) musicians to play with him the old songs under the U2 name: would you than call it U2?

I wouldn't care. I would call it what they want me to call it becuase it's just a label. But if the music they created sucked, I would move on. And if I liked it I would continue to support the band whatever the label read.

And each person has to make that same decision, it can't be made for them. And it looks like LOTS of people still recognize the GnR label today as applying to Axl, BBF, DJ, Richard, Frank, Dizzy,Tommy...

That's just not true at all. Ask any non-die hard GNR fan, and they can't name one other member of the current line up aside from Axl. No, not even homeless vagabond-turned keyboard player Dizzy Reed.I would say about half of the people I talk to don't even know GNR still exists, and the other half know Axl has a bunch of no name raffle winners playing as his employees. No matter how much you want the mainstream media and everyone to accept this band as Guns N' Roses, it's just not going to happen, ever.

  6. Reunion

Why get rid of the current members for inferior musicians???

It's not all about technical ability. Whichever line-up you prefer (and your opinion is your own, we all differ), it's hard to deny that the Appetite Line-up had a lot more chemistry than future line-ups. I'm not arguing for a reunion or anything, I'm not particularly fussed about one, but it's not about who are the better individual musicians. If that were the case, we'd have Brain/Josh Freese and Buckethead back.

I agree, and it makes me laugh, and get annoyed when I see people say stuff like the original line up are "inferior musicians" to the new band. You're obviously not a musician, or have no capacity to understand what makes a great band, even though you're on a message board for one of the best. If you're main concern is having the most talented musicians, you might as well bring in Neil Pert, bring back Buckethead, get rid of Tommy Stinson and bring in Les Claypool, maybe turn the vocals into a quartet for more range...

  7. Wish I would've known about that before I went...a friend of mine and I flew to Liverpool from Italy to see the show, but only spent 2 days...it was very spur of the moment. Great show though, never will forget it.
