what is alt. metal?
Alternative Metal.
alternative to what?
what does it sound like?
For me, bands like AiC, Soundgarden (also considered grunge bands), Disturbed, Korn, Sevendust (sometimes referred as Nu Metal) and even Metallica, wich is also a thrash metal band (they always had an urge to experiment with new things) are alternative metal bands. Bands that didn't follow the traditional Heavy Metal aesthetics religiously and aproached other musical styles like alternative rock/grunge, industrial/ electronic music, funk/hip hop, acoustic stuff, country. It's too hard define the genre for it's wide range.
I wouldn't know how to tell the difference between an alt metal band and an experimental metal one (Meshuggah), however. It's all about getting new styles and fusing them with heavy metal I guess...

CD, Better and Shackler's are very guitar oriented
I wish Axl would still keep on trying to create something different. I don't know any other album that sounds like CD and this is a huge plus.
I agree with you, they should keep inovating for the next album. IMO CD has an interesting and unique atmosphere and I'm really loving this new, more experimental side of GnR.

Hmmm... no.

The Shackler's thing looks like the rythym guitar. The TWAT part seems to be an overdub or something like that.
You are not listening it. It's there. Let me find an easy part.
Easier, I would say...
EDIT: 0:11 to 0:16, 0:22 to 0:24. It's not actually easy, but it's there, not impossible to listen.
I heard it now, not clearly tough. I used to remove the vocals from some songs, but sometimes a vocal layer escaped from the process and it sounded like the vocalist was whispering the lyrics. It may be a remnant of the solo on the rythym part of the mix.

Seether - Immortality (Pearl Jam Cover)
They made an awesome job here.

Ramones.
You mean Sex Pistols, right?

I prefer hard rock, but the hybrid styles that were born thanks to punk are some of my favorites (Grunge, Thrash Metal, Groove Metal, Alt. Metal).

Nice videos (I love you, Youtube), Thanks for posting.
I would love to see an official release. But I can't see it happening anytime soon.

Probably not. She became a Youtube Poop.

Yes. As long as they keep releasing (even if this means new material once in a decade) good music...

nothing beats Page riffs.
although metallica, aerosmith, and guns have some killer ones
IMO Page is ok, but nothing can beat Died's main riff. Sevendust's Black Chorus riff is also one of my favorites.

I think a great way to really introduce this band, and get people acquainted with the guitarists would be to have the next album be very guitar heavy--Traditional riffs and licks and solos and whatnot. No effects or keyboards or 3 minute intros, just a rollicking, fun, dirty rock album. It'd be good at showing off the guitarists' capabilities.
Think something along the lines of Led Zeppelin's Presence. Take all the frills, fluff and layers off and let these guitarists do what they're best at.
Effects, if used correctly, don't spoil a great riff you know...
Better and Coma have some of the best riffs ever, but GnR always lacked some cool riffs: their old stuff like Civil War has a cool verse and awesome solos, but the heavy riffs are so... lame, the first one is just two chords and some random notes and harmonics and the second is a simple 3 chord progression. Some CD songs also shows this "problem" as well. Led has an awesome riff library (Heartbreaker), but I would rather take bands like Metallica, SG and AiC as models, their riffs are more complex and stronger (Master of Puppets, Last Of My Kind, Broken Beat n' Scarred, Outshined, Died, Mailman...)

Korn - Love And Luxury

Bear in mind it's only #198, I mean it's decent to see it getting back in no doubt, but it's not like it's reached the top 10 or anything. Honestly can't see it making much of an impact on any plans.....but I'd be more than happy to be wrong
Yeah. This is probably linked to the best buy thing and the fact that they are going to play on a famous event -Rock In Rio (that usually gives the album a boost on sales). But having some new shit released would be awesome. Honestly, I would be satisfied by simply having some videos for CD's songs.

If no tour plans means a new album, I'm more than happy with this...
True.

Well deserved. It's a great album afterall.

Boss distortion, boss chorus, digitech delay, clapton crossroads pedal, banshee talkbox, dunlop crybaby wah from hell,
I love BOSS' distortion pedal line (I couldn't be any happier with my MD-2). Which one are you using there? DS-1?

Check this out:
I didn't expect it to reproduce SG's sound so well. I'm definetely getting one now.
rock1
3:16 Amazing low end, simply perfect for Mailman.
The Digitech XSW is another cool effect that got my attention recently:
Munky had one.

Awww... fuck! They removed the hell version from YT . It was too good for them anyway...

I kinda like it that way... But I would love to see something more aggressive like Last Of My Kind or A Looking In View....

Fortus talks a bit of his Trussart guitars and...man...if I had 1500 more bucks, I would sell my Gibson Les Paul Custom in a heartbeat.
Trussart Steelcaster is the best guitar I've ever played in my entire life. It has an incredible personality. Incredible pickups and dynamics.
I'm really jealous of 4tus in general. He has the career I wish I had ( session musician, endorsed by virtually every brand, touring with the coolest band in the world, and with a hundred vintage guitars sitting in his living room... ).
Same here, man. Those trussarts are some awesome shit. Hetfield's also got one. BTW, Thanks for translating it.

Black Hole Sun - Soundgarden the biggest hit of the summer (1994)
Big Wave - Pearl Jam
Is it true?

Some bands simply don't play all their songs live. I'm not sure, but I think that Metallica NEVER played The House That Jack Built live.
