  1. MORE HOWARD STERN TALK ABOUT GNR!!!!!!!!!!

    - Howard thanks the band again for letting them air the concert on Howard 101 (one of his Sirius channels)

    - Howard apologizes for not making it to the show but says again that it's too late for him and even if Jesus himself put on a concert that late he wasn't going

    - Said that members of his staff went, Gary (his producer) left at 1:00 and was chastised for leaving early. He mentioned that he saw someone leave after 2 songs!

    - They ran down a few of the celebs in attendence

    - Howard says they were scheduled to go on at 10, they started at 10:30 which is good for them. He said that Axl's limo rolled up, he got out and went right on stage.

-Howard played a clip of "It's So Easy", mentioned that's what they opened with. Richard Christie (member of Howard's staff) was in the upper deck and said he was scared how much it shook.

-They talked about how small the venue is and he mentioned that the only thing Axl said was "intimate", which they said speaks volumes coming from him. I guess making a reference to how little he talks to the press.

    - Howard mentioned he changed outfits 3 times, and said it went well. Said that Axl introduced the band and was very gracious and polite.

-Played clips of Nightrain, Howard said "fabulous, they played all the hits". Robin commented that she thinks bands should sprinkle in some of the newer stuff, Howard said "only if I have to piss". I'm assuming they didn't know that some of the CD stuff is in the set.

-Howard mentioned BHS was added to the set list as a tribute and he said he loved it. They played a clip and he sung along.

-Howard played clips of Whole Lotta Rosie and mentioned how Axl sung for ACDC last year

-Talked about Slash's guitar playing and how he's underappreciated, and played some of the godfather theme. Mentioned how fun it sounded

-They played some of Layla, and they talked about how the band played it all (the opposite of what he said a few minutes before)

    - Played Slash using the talk box on RQ, said "Don't you think Slash is a great player?"

-Played clips of KOHD, and Howard went on about how he doesn't like people singing along lol. He only wants to hear the singer. "I paid to see Axl Rose sing, you can shut the fuck up" lol.

-Said a lot of people were surprised they played for 3 hours but the band were way into it.

-Played a clip of PC, mentioned how since 1988 it's always been the closer.

-Mentioned that Axl threw the mic in the stand and that it was a $2,000 piece of equipment.

-Thanked the band again, plugged the NITL tour again.

    - GNR Radio is extended until August 16th      YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. For whatever it's worth, here's the response I got from Warpig when I asked him about the unnumbered lithos.

"Not reproductions. The lithographs are unnumbered. They we're giving to me before they we're numbered by the merch person and before each show. Bid with confidence. Good luck"

Estranged, will you post your top 10 over here as well?

Narrowing down my top 10 will be tough but I'll give it a whirl. I LOVE getting everyone's take on this. It's fun to see the one's that some people really admire and other's think are at the bottom of the pile. I'm not trying to track down every litho, I only go after the ones I really like and would want to display on my wall. So it's no coincidence that most of my top 10 are ones I already have.

    10. Pittsburgh Molten Steel GNR Logo (This one looks SOOOOO much cooler in person and on the wall then it does in pictures. The hot steel looks amazing up close, especially when it's cooling and flaking off the logo)

    9. Bangkok Demon Buddha  (I don't own this one, so I'm only commenting from pictures I've seen. I've heard it's smaller and on poor quality paper. So I'm aright admiring it from afar. But if it was the same size and on the same card stock as the others I would put this right next to Kobe.)

    8. Tokyo 'Zilla (I'm a sucker for Godzilla and monster related stuff, the yellow really pops and I like the jet fighter flying by. King Of All Rock Bands indeed!)

    7. Osaka (Same as Tokyo where I love the monster theme. I don't own this one but I wouldn't mind getting my hands on one. I don't need it signed by the band though so the ebay ones aren't for me.)

    6. New York Electric GNR Logo (I was at this show so part of me wonders if I rate it so high because of that. But I gotta tell you with 7 of these lithos framed on my wall, this is the one I find myself stopping to look at more then the others. The gold foil lettering, the raised sparks flying off, and the cool green and blue lightning striking the logo really do it for me.)

    5. Las Vegas Night 2 Grim Reaper (This was the first of the lithos where I saw it and had to have it. The other ones before this were cool, but this one really grabbed me. I know it's a high print run (1,000) but the grim reaper opening up his robe to reveal Sin City is a striking design. I really like the dark red coming off of the skull as well, it's a great contrast with the black.)

    4. New Orleans Glow In The Dark Skull (In the light of day it's a perfectly fine litho, lot's of interesting touches that you don't notice the first time around. But when the night comes around this litho comes alive and gets pretty wild. Very similar to the city of New Orleans actually. If you hold up a flashlight right to the glass and then turn off all the lights that gives you the maximum glow in the dark effect)

3.San Fran Dirty Harry (The skull superimposed over Clint's face is pretty sweet. The gun coming forward and actually jutting out of the border of the litho gives it a cool element of depth. It's the great orange and blue swirls in the background that really put this into my top 3.)

    2. Kobe (I've stared at this one a lot through my computer screen, so much so that I'm actually worried that if I did end up tracking one down one day it might not be able to live up to the hype I've built into my own mind. My favorite part is the bullets along the bottom of the headpiece.)

    1. Cincinnati (Took me around 9 months to finally track one down but once I finally got it here I couldn't believe how beautiful it is. There are really awesome blues and red on either side of the astronaut that aren't totally visible from just looking at pictures. The GNR logo patch with the floating gun and roses are the perfect touches to take this litho to the top of my list. Doesn't hurt that I have Axl's signature on the bottom left corner of it either!)

Isn't it a bit weird that Stern and Sirius went all out to create this joint promotional venture then he doesn't attend or seemingly listen to any of it first hand? I know Eddie Trunk hasn't the best rep on this forum but you know he would have been there all night, tried to get interviews and fully reviewed the show in the following days.

The vibe I got last week leading up to it was that they've always tried hard to get Axl in the studio for a sit-down and they've come close a few times. Slash has been there , Duff has been there, Axl is the one that they're waiting for.

If he got all three of them at once for the first reunited interview that would be amazing too. And I think the more they mentioned the show, and the nicer they were, and the more compliments they threw in the band's direction, the greater they assumed their chances would be to get that elusive interview.

It's still not off the table but if you listen to stern regularly you can tell sometimes when he's dropping hints before a guest comes in that they have something scheduled. And I certainly didn't get that vibe today. It was strictly business whereas last year when guns played in New Jersey and a member of Stern's staff attended they talked about it for a long time and in a very complimentary way.

The comment today about how he "was told they sounded better than ever" literally sounded like it was him reading it off the paper. Like it was a piece of copy sent to him buy Sirius and not something he was legitimately told by someone who is in attendance.

So, what did Howard say about this show and Axl?

Super brief but he asked the staff if anyone attended. He commented that they played until 1:30 in the morning and by all accounts they never sounded better, this led into a promo for the new tour dates.

  6. I'm comparing it to the NJ shows I saw last year that were pretty much in line with the rest of the tour. I attended those shows with 3 other people who are fans but not diehards, and they went In with low expectations but we're blown away. They couldn't get over how great they said he sounded. I'm going to MSG this October with those same 3 and it will be very interesting to see if they notice a difference.

  7. I've really never ever commented on Axl or his voice in a negative way before. I'm grateful for the chance to see him and the rest of the band later this year. But on songs like Yesterdays or Michelle where the whole thing from top to bottom is sung with that cleaner voice, I would be perfectly fine if he dropped them and ended the show a little earlier. They just don't sound even remotely close to how they used to. And as pointed out earlier, not even like they did a year ago. Shorter show, sung with less songs that have to be sung like that, would be amazing. I'm worried that 3 to 4 songs where he uses that voice will give people an overall negative impression on what is generally a very good performance.

I thought I remember reading it said "say something"... "you can't something something if you don't say something".

As you can tell my memory isn't exactly crystal here.

It was definitely something close to that combined with what I wrote earlier about asking if the child had been bewitched.

I never thought about it before, I always just thought it sounded mysterious and cool. But it could definitely be about the public wondering why Axl went silent for all those years. And wondering what was wrong.

Just FYI, the Jim and Sam Show on Faction Talk had some pretty good discussion about the show last night.  They are replayed later in the day and you can listen on demand if you have the app.

What was their reaction? Stern is back on Monday and I'm interested to see what his comments are about the voice.

To me it was definitely 50/50 with some highs and lows. I'm going to MSG later this year with 3 average fans of the band and I'm a bit nervous about what they are gonna think. There are moments where it's very very good, but at times during Michelle, YCBM, BHS, and a few others where it's just not the voice that initially hooked so many people. I saw Axl/DC live last year so I know what he's capable of and that is the real head scratcher.

The lyric debates were always the best.  We did get like 99% of the lyrics correct on most songs, there was always a few words here and there we could never make out

but better was probably the most fun since it leaked in parts.

My favorite fake lyric debate was the end of CATR where it was speculated to have said

    "Some type of moment,

    There you got it

    All alone in jail today"

I knew what Axl meant when he said one of the reasons that leaks are harmful is because fans start to get used to parts that aren't on the finished record. Or in this case, get attached to lyrics that never existed lol.

The most fun times on all those old school forums is when stuff leaked, seeing everyone freak out and talking about the songs.

I remember when better leaked, just the intro part with the, no one ever told me.... and people were like FAKE that is not Axl LOL

    Those were the days

Absolutely right about that Better leak. I remember it came out in a few different parts. 10 seconds leaked, then 30, then a minute. What a time. Equally as exciting is when we were trying to figure out the lyrics to IRS after hearing the Eddie Trunk recording.

  12. I'm pretty positive I bought a Live Era t-shirt from gnronline.com back in the day that I still have somewhere. Newgnr.com definitely had those 2002 clips on the site in 30 second bits that were EVERYTHING at the time. I remember showing my friends Axl's LALD scream as proof that he hadn't lost his voice, which was the prevailing wisdom of the day after the VMA's. Lostrose.com was also a really fun site. I'm not sure if it was there or one one of the other lost sites of yesteryear that had a section for downloads with a bunch of old demos? "Demon Bell" was one of the songs listed on there, anyone remember this? So many fakes back then.

That's highway robbery, and if someone buys it I feel bad. But I'll tell you I feel a lot worse about those fucking A4 reprints that are popping up. The seller has 100% positive feedback, I really hate that these are out there.

Is it possible to listen without subscribing for shit?

Not that I know of. I have a Sirius subscription thats the only way I know about. When they've done limited edition channels like this in the past, members of the band usually talk up some of the songs. Or explain why certain songs were chosen if it's something not from their catalog. So far I've heard Slash and Duff. Still waiting to see if Axl actually recorded any of these. Soundboard from Coachella did sound great.
