  1. The problem with liberating North Korea is that South Korea is not going to want them and those 25 million people will face a very tough transition period. Maybe a more South Korean friendly government will be set up that will ease the transition. The problem is that many North Koreans who escaped into South Korea find it very hard to adjusting. They can't go back so many just live off the government unable to find work. Most of them are women, some even resort to prostitution. The few men have it worse and many lie about their origins.

Plus think about all the people they have to rehabilitate? It is going to be one of the biggest humanitarian crisis in recent years.

Let's go ask a few captives what they would prefer:

a.) Malnourishment, torture, abuse of every tactile kind, um, I don't know...death.

b.) Potential xenophobia, and a lack of employment opportunities.

Damn, option B does look pretty bleak...

  2. VICE's HBO series had a feature on North Korea. And needless to say, it was extremely jarring. I really wish the United Nations would get together, put personal interests aside, and liberate North Koreans.

It would be a victory for the human race.

Because that's worked so well every other time it's happened.

Actually, it's backfired almost every time it's happened.

    Wow.

Just to reiterate, we have a modern-day Holocaust right under our collective noses, and your response is "fuck it".

  3. I went into it expecting...I don't know what I was expecting. But I got amazing cinematography, nekkid women, and awesome fight scenes. Not as poignant as Game Of Thrones although I would argue it is visually superior. Episode 5 in particular is a standout. This show rocks.

  4. Honestly don't get why anyone would hate the police. Does anyone think our societies would be better off without laws?

I don't know. When I google "Swedish Police Force", there is no mention of choking, shooting, or killing civilians.

American Police on the other hand...

  5. One of my biggest "ill see them next time" regrets... I should have seen them in 2008

The only bigger "should've seen 'em" moment I've had is when I passed on seeing James Brown like 2 months before he died.

The Godfather himself! I wish I had seen 'em.

  6. 7

    The good...

    - Finished degree program

    - Met lots of cool new people

    - It's great to be single

    - Traveled

    - Improved physique

    - Moved to the best city for what I do

    The bad...

    - Had to give up on a work project (worked on it for 18 months)

    - Broke up with girlfriend beginning of year

    - Didn't meet personal deadlines

  7. I wonder how much he actually drinks  Half a can of cider and he's getting his todger out for the birds goin' 'alright ladies, wanna see my impersonation of Churchill looking startled?' *turns around and masturbates furiously* Uh, give us a second, yeah?

Well, the other night (when I posted this ridiculous thread) I just about finished off a bottle of Johnny Walker Black label. :shrugs:

And apologies once again for stating a nonsensical thread. I'll try to to better today.

Lord, did I ever have a phase with Black Label, and filterless Pall Malls.

  8. I forgive Paul Levesque for overplaying his Hogan Card all those years ago. While his Reign Of Terror turned me off wrestling for over a decade, NXT has reeled me back.

Bah, doesn't have Cena on it. People won't watch.

They'll never know until they try.

  9. I'm not sure why such a fuss about population control. I've read that it will substantially level off within 50 years or so.

Because that is a very uncertain prognosis and because even if it levels off the damage we are doing to Earth may be irreversible.

I'm assuming you're referring to the overuse of fossil fuels, etc? Like others have said, with the way technology is progressing, our dependance on fossil fuels becomes less and less each day. Who's to say that 50 years from now it won't be a fraction of what it is today?

No, I am not talking about the overuse of fossil fuels. I am talking about the full plethora of problems caused by overpopulation, which includes pollution, mass extinction of other life forms, increased risk of pandemics due to population density and contact with new animals, lack of resources, famine, conflicts over resources as the difference between the rich and poor increases, breakdown of ecosystems and climate change (which is cased by many things including burning of fossil fuels).

In addition I would say that the idea, or hope, that we will fix all these problems by technological means so that we can just continue to increase the human population endlessly, is both naive and incredibly selfish.

Overpopulation is a myth perpetuated by really out of touch people like the Rothschild family.

  10. Also, the idea of taking some sort of material and wiping our arse with it is not something we, moderns, suddenly arrived at. China, during the Tang Dynasty, was using toilet paper.

So then what's the philosophical argument for not wiping your ass in modern day China?

I was in Shanghai a few years ago, and they did not stock bathrooms anywhere (even at the American, and European franchises.) And if I remember correctly, you had to buy tissues in vending machines.

  11. I'm back in school studying now. I used to work before though. Whatever that has to do with anything.

I don't think we have a lot of Chinese immigrants at all. Most Asians we have are from Korea, Thailand or Vietnam.

Iranians can't be that much of a problem SS. I actually have several Iranian friends, they integrated really well and fast. The most Iranian refugees are Bahai or in the past old friends of the sjah, they came here a long time ago and are often very well educated.

I do however think, some cultures mix better then others. And some cultures are more accepted then others.

Also the education they had before arriving plays a part on how well they do.

For instance in my country some moroccan young boys are giving more trouble then others. Most their parents come from a poor area in Morrocco. No education, not a clue how to raise their kids in another country, they often couldn't even write or read. It resulted in the kids having more difficulties. Now I had a friend, who was really smart, but his parents were not allowing him to study. He had to drop out really young to work. The parents were convinced they would go back, so he had to earn money asap. Now I have another Moroccan friend from Casablanca and that's a totally different story. From a more liberal part of that country, well educated before arriving and her family is totally integrated, they all studied and such and are doing very well. So education plays a big role in all of this.

But I do think, there needs to come a better plan to help those boys wanting more in life. They need to have and to see a future for themselves. It only is very difficult to reach them.

Well, Nordic countries are historically, ethnically homogenous. At least more so than the U.S., Australia, the Philippines, etc. Typically it makes those countries easier to govern (similar religion, ethnicity, etc.) I can imagine the transition would be a bit more difficult than say... predominantly Catholic, Latin Americans immigrating to the U.S.

  12. Human being will always, naturally seek conflict (we are biologically hardwired for it.)

Developed nations are experiencing a collective devaluation in equity, and economic mobility. Spliced with the proliferation of technology, disconnectedness, and anti-depressants -- and voíla, first world problems.

Anyone can think anytime they are in is the golden age.

Comparatively speaking, we have it as bad as the princess with a pea under her mattress.
