  1. What do you think the most probable outcome is going to be? Cancellation? Bad show? Or great show? Not fan bias, actual realistic expectations...

    Realistic?

Let's see...we have a depressed lead singer mailing it in (if he shows up at all, that is) while hiding behind a hat and sunglasses and trying to sing like Mickey Mouse, an emo lead guitarist who can't play his way out of a wet paper bag, another lead guitarist shredding speed metal jazz on a fretless doubleneck guitar and a third guitarist beating the living shit out of his guitar more than actually playing it. Most of the songs they play are 25 years old and everyone who wrote those songs is no longer in the band. Also, everyone who wrote the newer songs is no longer in the band either. A good third of their set consists of AC/DC and Pink Floyd covers, pointless guitar solos, piano jams. And pyros of course, lots of pyros!

All that in front of a highly educated and entitled hipster latte maccisucki crowd who came to celebrate the hot shit of the day, some of it being really good shit actually - Thievery Corporation for example, think "If The World" sans Mickey Mouse.

    Realistic? Apocalypse meets armageddon. HOPEFULLY!

  2. It's beyond pointless talking about a song we have never heard and that probably doesn't even exist.

And don't take Baz too serious for anything Guns, the guy usually is a little too excited.

If they had any good songs left, they would have put them out on the album or at least tested them live by now.

The song exists man. Axl has confirmed it himself.

I believe it when I hear it.

  3. Weddings....russian riches...Vegas revue with dancers....hipster festivals....

Who the fuck books all this crap?

If he needs money THAT BAD he might as well call Slash, sign off some music for a commercial, do some sort of endorsement...whatever.

At this point all of this would have more dignity than what he's doing now.

It gets more embarassing every day.

  5. Nobody does a better celebrity interview then Howard Stern mate...he is able to get guests to talk about stuff they swore was off limits........

Howard Stern is pushing too hard, very loud, nervous and edgy atmosphere, very little substance. Gomeshi is always well prepared and getting to the heart of matters without ever being disrespectful or pushy and he gets to open up people and he lets them speak and think during the interviews wich makes for a much better outcome. He did amazing interviews with Robert Plant, M.I.A., Neil Young, Billy Corgan...blows any Stern interview out of the fucking water, some real quality stuff right there.

  6. i think it should be 'get chinese democracy to number 1' instead of 'get gnr...'

gnr means a lot of things to other people, and we don't want to confuse anyone into thinking we're talking about the old band's old songs.

I hear ya, but everyone knows 'Guns N' Roses', few give a fuck about Chinese Democracy. Do the math. I'm for 'Guns N' Roses'.

  7. everyone seems to agree it must be a chinese democracy song. maybe you could add a poll to the topic? we could vote on a few favorites. i think the short list would have to include TIL, Street of Dreams, TWAT or Scrapped.

also, since time is always of the essence, it couldn't hurt to go ahead and get the facebook page up. it can be revised and evolve as the project grows. but i see a lot of good in going ahead and getting the ball rolling.

Poll is done, you can vote now.

I will put up a FB within 24 hours just fine, let's just spread the word for a bit, especially towards the south american fans. ;-)

awesome progress. but i really think we should consider pushing TIL, especially over the song chinese democracy. it already got a big push. but TIL never did, and it has MAAAAAAJOR crossover appeal. i could see it getting played on rock, adult contemporary or even NPR stations.

also, fuck the naysayers in this thread. we can totally do this.

I agree, but was 'This I Love' even put out a a single? I only know of Better, CD and SOD?

  9. Oh for Christ's sake.

no way! support the team! this will be awesomely hilarious.

You're right. If GNR is going to be a joke, I guess we should try to have some fun with it.

that's the spirit! come on guys!!! who's going to start the facebook page? i mean, just look at all the replies in this thread alone. the response will be huge.

it's cool that you site the hoff as an example of how this plan can work. if david hasselhoff can do it, then i'm sure it'll be a slam dunk for axl fuckin' rose!!! right?

I can start a FB page but first I'd like to test the waters and get some feedback for this around the boards, if you support the idea spread the word.

First it has to be decided if we take a song (and wich one) or the album Chinese Democracy, so everyone voice your opinion right here.

  10. GN'R is a different animal to the Hoff and RATM. The latter two are petty obscure as far as mainstream popularity. That's the essence of those campaigns, ant-establishment. People like Scott Mills are too dumb to appreciate anything on Chinese Democracy.

The mainstream perception of GN'R, for better or worse, is mostly that of a classic rock nostalgia, wich could actually help such a campaign more than harming it. It sure won't hurt the band in any way and it could put some attention to Chinese Democracy and the current lineup by chossing a song from CD or the actual album.

I don't see any pun or harm really, I mean I respect your opinion, but this thing would be on a totally voluntary basis and what is wrong with fans supporting their band? Let's do this, let's make a difference, let's get GN'R to #1!

  12. You can make this happen if you utilize the South Americans. That said, yesterday was the perfect opportunity because Sweet Child was available to download free from Amazon.

A radio campaign would be awesome. I heard Chineese Democracy once on the airwaves and that was when Plaent Rock played it on release day. It would be funny if we all flooded the airwaves with requests for 'Checkmate by GN'R'.

Definetely get EVERYONE in, also fans from South America.

As for some radio support...Eddie Trunk anyone?

  13. from David Hasselhoff's Wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia....avid_Hasselhoff

On April 21, 2006, fans of David Hasselhoff launched a tongue-in-cheek website "Get Hasselhoff to Number 1" in an attempt to get the 1989 hit "Looking for Freedom" to the top of the UK music charts through Internet downloads of the single. The campaign attracted attention on British radio and television broadcasts, in the national press and on the Internet. Over 40,000 people signed up to receive the "Hoff Alert" e-mail when the time had come to purchase the single.

The focus of the campaign shifted to "Jump In My Car", when that was actually released as a single, and BBC Radio1 DJ Scott Mills lent his support. On October 3, 2006 the Hoff Alert was sent out, and Hasselhoff promptly gained his highest ever UK chart entry (number 3) on October 8, 2006."

from BBC News on Rage Against The Machine: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/8423340.stm

The band's single, Killing In The Name, sold 500,000 downloads beating X Factor winner Joe McElderry's The Climb by 50,000 copies to clinch the top spot.

  14. Why does it matter if they're on top of the charts? Many if not most of the best music was made in obscurity. Not to mention that popular bands suck.

The point is to support the band, not to make us feel better because we like a "cool" band. If a little media buzz could be generated from this, perhaps it could help to motivate them to come up with new material?

Not to be negative but even if you got all the active posters on this forum to buy a copy of the album it still would not be within the top 10 on the Billboard charts. I have Chinese Democracy on CD and vinyl, I purchased the inaccurate guitar tablature book, I have seen them live, I purchased their official cap. If they want promotion, that's on them,

With the internet, iTunes and everything, you actually don't need to sell as many physical copies as back in the day to get on number one these days.

  15. "Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country." - John F. Kennedy

It's been done with Rage Against The Machine and even David Hasselhoff. Are GN'R fans as loyal? Can we get GN'R at number one somewhere (US, UK) in all purchasing the same single on the same day? It could be done using social media, Twitter or Facebook, and then on day X everyone who feels like getting GN'R on top can purchase a single.

    Anyone up to this idea?

Since there is no new single on the horizon, maybe it could be narrowed down to either a classic song (November Rain, Sweet Child) or something from Chinese Democracy (Better, Street Of Dreams). Or we just go full throttle and make that the album "Chinese Democracy" to support Axl and the current band instead of even more nostalgia. (The album is available very cheap, so it would be just a few tiny bucks for everyone, perhaps even cheaper than a single...) Not sure if all copies would have to bought at the same retailer to be counted for the charts though, anyone got more info on that?

I'd be willing to launch a Facebook page for all fans to connect up to day X, if there's enough support.

    Feedback please.

  16. Can us fans actually do something about the band's current situation? Usually, bands tend to listen to their fans via facebook, twitter, official websites, official forums, etc... But Axl kinda alienates himself from his own fans for whatever reason. Is there any way that doesn't involve a stupid-ass flash mob during a concert we could actually express our desire for new music or is Mr.Rose completely inaccessible?

Fight fire with fire. Stop buying tickets and merchandise. Stop writing reviews. Stop posting on the internet. Just ignore the band until they do something intresting again.

The band knows and cares though, I know first hand that at least two members are as pissed as many fans, but Axl is all business these days. As long the money comes in, nothing is going to change and no one really knows if he's playing to raise founds to continue art or just so he can pay debts and keep his lifestyle. He seems to be very lonely and frustrated with the labels and music scene in general so he sticks to celebrating the ashes rather than to carry on the fire, unless he's doing drugs or is suffering from a disease of some kind the only motivation for that can be money. It's just a very sad state of affairs given the talent and potential going nowhere. But on the other hand as long as there are enough fanboys willing to take a bullet for this man and applauding everything he does, nothing will change.

  17. Neither. I'd take anything Buckethead/Fortus/Finck over anything Ashba/Bumble any day, but both would be equally unrelevant and pointless at this point in time. I'd be intrested in something drastic, artistic and original. Progressive industrial hardcore metal. Acoustic country rock album. Ambient music with Pitman on acid. Brazilian folklore. An album full of piano songs. A spoken word poetry session. A collaboration with high profile guests. An original film soundtrack. Anything that doesn't bore the living shit out of me like the current band does.

  18. Smoking doesn't affect the singing voice / vocal chords half as much as people think, but it does affect the pipes. If you run out of breath, you have less control over the voice, and for many singers that results in putting too much pressure on the vocal chords, ultimately damaging them. That is the main issue with smoking and singing, not the smoke damaging the vocal chords.

The "rasp" has nothing to do with smoking. There are some blues singers who have a natural raspy voice and actual control over it (in like being able to use overtones and halftones with rasp), but that's not the case with Axl who is a straight baritone.

He's doing fine on certain rasp parts (Rocket Queen for example) but that's usually his comfort zone stuff with pitch chromatic notes, as soon as it becomes bluesy or too melodic, rasp is pretty much hit and miss for him. By now he should use the Don't Let It Bring You Down / Seeker voice more often, the rasp isn't gone but he has less and less control over it.

The reason why he often sounds like shit these days is not because he can't sing, it's because he aged and didn't adapt the material accordingly like say Robert Plant did. He is still a fantastic singer, but he's lazy as fuck and just one stupid motherfucker. With a little effort and an open mind, he could blow any singer out of the water, but he seems to be fine with repeating the same mistakes over and over and on top of that composing and releasing original material he is struggling to sing. He will never sound great again. He could, but he's got his head all the way up his own ass.
