Update on my 2024 list:
2024-02-03 - DeWolff @ EM2, Groningen
2024-03-10 - K3 @ Martiniplaza, Groningen
2024-04-19 - Kid Kapichi @ Melkweg, Amsterdam
2024-05-22 - The Black Crowes @ AFAS Live, Amsterdam
2024-06-19 - Green Day, The Hives, The Interrupters @ Gelredome, Arnhem
2023-06-23 - Steel Panther @ Oosterpoort, Groningen
2024-06-27 - Bruce Springsteen & The E-Street Band @ Goffertpark, Nijmegen
2024-08-31 - The Teskey Brothers @ Ziggo Dome, Amsterdam
2024-11-11 - Jason Isbell And The 400 Unit @ Ooterpoort, GroningenWell, in April I was sick and missed the Kid Kapichi show. Absolutely gutted about that! Really fucking bummed out. They did announce them for a festival in October, so I might now go there instead. Don't give a fuck about the rest of the lineup, so it'd be a 45e ticket for just them and the location is pretty far away. But I really still want to see them. Kinda hoping they'll also announce some more club shows.
Thankfully I got to see Black Crowes as planned. Good show! I've seen them be better and I've seen them be worse. But overall this was a good show! This was very clearly the lean blues/soulrock band The Black Crowes, and not the kinda psychadelic (and maybe a little self-indulgent) jamband The Black Crowes. It's weird how they have two faces like that.
Up next week are Green Day and Steel Panther. Then Springsteen the week after that.
Then Teskey Brothers and Mdou Moctar in the same week somewhere in August.
Some Crowes pics:

I'd largely tuned out by the end of NuGuns, but here's Axl's wee sendoff:
2001-2002
I hated it at the time but I absolutely love it now. It was so incredibly out there. Shame it never really got going. The potential was insane. Especially if they'd dropped an album in 2002.2006-2007
Peak nu-GnR for me. In terms of live show, vocals and general look and feel, this was a step up from 2002. Even if Buckethead was gone.2009-2010
Vocals were still good, setlists got more exciting, but man... Ashba was so fucking terrible. What a giant fucking tool.2011-2014
Aside from the occasional good show, it was all downhill here.- 3

A lot of bands come to mind really. Especially those that have been around for a long time.
Aerosmith in the 70's was much more hardrock/bluesrock oriented than poppier Aerosmith that emerged from Permanent Vacation onwards. Just night and day. I like both for all sorts of reasons, but the change was huge. And the period in between was a mess.
AC/DC with Bon Scott was an entirely different animal than AC/DC with Brian Johnson.
The Beatles started as a (really good) pop group in matching suits and changed into a much more experimental studio-oriented band.
Pink Floyd was originally was a very experimental psychadelic thing with Syd Barrett but over time became way more melodic. Especially from Meddle onward.
Metallica went from pure underground trashmetal to a much slower and more melodic sound.
I also think Coldplay's first 2,5 albums are just a hugely different thing from the pop group they became.
Bob Dylan went through at least 5 vastly different sounds. From original pure folk to the Judas of the genre embracing electric music, then there was a country phase, a religious phase and after some twists and turns he ended up with the much more jazzy arrangements he does today.
Even early Queen was a straight hardrock band on their earlier albums and became an entirely different thing by A Night At The Opera.

I caught my first of two shows this tour in East Rutherford last night. What a show, and what a set list especially! Live debut of Tell Me Straight, and tour debuts for Bitch, Heartbreaker, and Midnight Rambler (The latter bumping Miss You out of the set ). The most HD songs in a set so far, and for me personally I got six songs I’ve never seen. The band was on fire, and the crowd was very good. Keef was really in the zone after the first few songs, he really led the show last night. Mick was in great spirits, and Ronnie feels a bit back to his old self - much more lively. Steve Jordan is having the time of his life up there; of course I’d rather have Charlie still, but we are so fortunate to have Steve in the band in his stead.
Looking forward to Cleveland in a few weeks. If you have the chance to catch them on this run, do not miss it. Last night was up there with the best Stones shows I’ve seen.
That sounds aboslutely amazing. I envy you man!

Ended up at the front for Neil Young. He kicks so much ass
Agreed, he's still an absolute beast. Seeing him cover A Day In The Life up close live is still one of the coolest things I ever saw live.

Fuck, what a kick ass record.
Such tasteful playing by all involved, the production is fucking killer, Slashs soloing is so on point in every single song.
Have you guys listened to how well this album is produced? Holy!
Now compare that production to GnR's most recent singles.
It's just insane.

I just realized that this album is 70 minutes long. But still it never drags. Didn't bore me for a second nor did it feel like a long listen. You just lose yourself in the blues.
I didn't even think about it before, but then I noticed the vinyl version was 2 discs.
Credit for that to Slash as well!

The album is up for download on some platforms of questionable legallity with that song and everything.

Fuck! That record is great to listen to. My impression after the first listen was that Slash kept it save here and there, trying not to overplay, maybe a bit predictable, but I guess I just need one or two more spins.
I thought it was missing the big, great Slash solos I was expecting but holy motherfucker Stormy Monday hits so fucking hard. That song has everything you need. Beth Hart’s giving everything and what a solo! That’s the blues I was waiting for.
While writing this I listen to the album again and the solos are totally fine 😂 forget what I’ve written before. I skipped the singles we already had and Papa Was A Rolling Stone isn’t available yet. When listening to that whole thing the experience will be even better! There’s some Back And Forth Again in Metal Chestnut, though.
Stormy Monday with Beth Hart really blew me away as well.

The biggest credit I can give Slash here is that his unique style and playing is what ties the album together in a cohesive way. That's very impressive with all the singers. Imo that happens here more so than on his 2010 album. Love that. This is really fun and Slash can definitely still really go. It's also very nice to hear him without Myles being on everything. I can only take so much of his voice and it gets boring to me. This, on the other hand, sounds awesome.

6 songs in and I'm absolutely loving this! Great and refreshing to hear all the different vocalists, great guitar work tying the whole thing together. Definitely picking it up at the store tomorrow.

I know lol. & things have gotten worse for them since I wrote that. There ratings are not going well at all.
The show is just unwatchable at this point. I really hate the Bucks jerking off all over themselves. And their pals like Jack Perry. TK as a tv personality is worse than as a ceo. He books for Meltzer so he can jerk off and throw meaningless stars at them.
I really hope MJF and FTR go to wwe. They're some of the few good things left there. I was excited about AEW when it started, but it's like all their worst traits took over.

Picked it up. Insane price for a 7-song single LP ($35) and the cover is as lame as possible, but it sounds amazing. Killer concert! Comes with an insert with show pictures and a setlist replica, too. I wish they used the CD art, at least, but it’s ok. Amazing they still sound this good
I found a copy today in the RSD leftover bin! sadly also at full price. But I still bought it.

Thinking about what could (and probably should) have happened is a GnR fan's #1 mistake. Never do that. It's too sad.

Opening night in Houston had Angry, Mess It Up and Sweet Sounds.
I'm really, REALLY hoping they'll at least also play Whole Wide World, Bite My Head Off and Live By The Sword this tour. Dreamy Skies would be nice too.
But they at least played WWW and BMHO at the Racket show. So I remain hopeful.

David Gimour announced a new album. One of my favourite guitarists ever, but still I'm not sure how to feel. If I'm completely honest his work cowritten with his wife Polly is pretty boring. I miss Rick and Nick their input to make it interesting. Rattle That Lock was kinda dull too. Live the Floyd stuff is what really makes it worth it for me. On An Island was okay, but only just okay as well. He's such a stellar player still, but I'm not really going to get my hopes up.
-
Yeah, I saw that! It's a bit far from home (Groningen), but I'll probably go anyway. I just hope they'll play a full set! Kinda hoping for another club show in the fall.

I'm assuming that's because they're a total bunch of yes-men. And possibly drugs.

I was supposed to see them last Friday, but I got quite sick and I couldn't go. Gutted!

Look, this is a pretty pointless argument. In the 20+ years of having to deal with Team Brazil the one thing we've all learned is that they will always do the dumbest, most senseless, most idiotic, most unprofessional thing possible. That's just a fact of life for us as fans that we sadly have to live with.

Concerts in 2024
in MY WORLD

This was my fifth time seeing them.
In 2009 at the HMH (same venue as this) they were very very good.
In 2011 at Zwarte Cross festival it was pretty bad. The crowd wasn't into it and the band was very not into it. No encore.
In 2013 opening for Springsteen was decent, but this band doesn't really fit a 60.000+ outdoor venue.
In 2013 (a month later) in the legendary Paradiso was absolutely from another planet. Fucking amazing!
I'd say this show was is the 3rd best. Maybe almost as good as 2009 (although that was the extended jamband and not the rockband The Black Crowes). But definitely not on Paradiso level.
I missed that reunion tour because I was kinda pissed at the brothers doing it without at the very least Steve and Sven. But I read it was still very good. By now they have Sven back, which is nice. Steve has set all bridges ablaze, so that's never happening.
